    April 2011 Bandits

Hi Eda, Things are going a better. Going back to work today. We will see how that goes. I took the tylenol and it helps but the pain does not totally go away but at least it helps a little. I am glad that you are able to drink a little better now. I am just not sure how everyone is getting enough protien during the liquid and creamy liquid phase. I try to muscle down a protrien drink and they make me sick to my stomach. I have tried 2 different kinds and 3 different flavors and they all taste like medicine. My stomach starts to roll everytime I try to drink one. I think in the last 4 days I have had a total combine of one can of soup and about 5 tsps of sugar free jello. Plus what water and crystal light I have been able to get down. I too am not a Taco Bell fan but a Taco or the Pinto's n Cheese sounds absolutely like a gourmet meal to me right now. Let me know how you are doing. And I agree with you, once we hit our goal weight all this stuff we are going through now will be well worth it. I just wish I had a magic wand to speed up the process, but I guess we all wish that. Take care and let me know how you are doing. Donna

Thanks for the reply. At least I know I am not the only one that has experienced this. I was taking liquid coedine. I have not had any at all today. Do you think I should still take it for the next day or so and see if that helps with the pain when I drink? I will try the gatorade. And thanks for the encouragment.

    Banded April 27

I was banded on the 28th. Went home the same day. Was in so much pain that night and the next day (a lot of shoulder pain) I questioned why I put myself through this. Today is my first day that I feel pretty good. Still a little shoulder pain and of course stomach really sore but no pain meds though. Seems like I have a hard time breathing every now and then. Started my creamy liquids today, never thought split pea w/bacon soup liquified would taste so good (never liked it before). My biggest problem is that even when I take small sips of water I get a pain in the middle of my chest. It goes away pretty quick but it is causing me to cut down on the amount of water/liquid I drink because I do not want to feel that pain. Anyone else have that problem? I have 5 incisions. My doctor told me 5 was normal for the lap band surgery.

    April 2011 Bandits

Okay so I was banded on the 28th. But I am having a problem even drinking water. Every sip I take I feel like it gets stuck and in the middle of my chest is causes a pain. I thought I was taking too big of a sip but even really small sips cause this momentary pain. My husband thinks it might be because everything is still swolen. Has anyone else had this problem right after surgery? It is hard to get enough liquids when it hurts at every sip.

I have both of the soups on hand but I did not even think about the sugar free jello or the chicken broth thickened with skim milk. Thanks so much.

    April 2011 Bandits

Hi everyone, I was just banded yesterday. The drive home from the hospital was almost 3 hours because no one around where I live does the band. So the drive was terrible. My left shoulder is kiling me, I was told also that it was due to the gas they pump into your stomach. How long does that last? Today so far it is better but it still hurts, I won't even go into the stomach insusions that I know is a given for pain and being uncomfortable. I had not planned on taking any time off of work beause I could not afford it but I am not sure I am going to be able to hold to that I am thinking I will call out today and work tomorrow. Outside of Water I had one Isopure drink Strawberry-Kiwi, it was okay but I guess I did not mix it well enough because as it sat it started seperating one me and had to keep re-stiring. Has anyone tried making Jello out the Pure? My doctor told me 24 hours on Clear liquids then 21 days on cream liquids. What has everyone been eating on the creamy liquid part of the diet? Any suggestions I would greatly appreciate.
  7. Hi everyone, I get banded on the 28th.I am having my surgery done in Las Vegas, NV. I see everyone talking about a pre-op diet. I asked the nurtionist at the clinic I am having my surgery through and she told me no pre-op diet. They said just nothing to eat or drink after 10:00 pm the night before surgery. Has anyone else been told no pre-op diet? Also, the pre-op packet only has me on a liquid diet for 1-2 days then soft solids for 2 weeks. This seems so different then what I am reading on this site. Unfortunately, there is no support groups anywhere around me and no one I know of has had this surgery. So I really have no have anyone else to ask if this is normal?
  8. Thanks for the information. My BMI is 45 and I have over 150 pounds to lose. So I have a lot of weight to lose. I was just really suprised that no one else ever said they did not have a post op diet. Just seemed weird.
  9. I am schedueld to have my lap band surgery in 11 days. I was reading some of the blogs and people talked about having a pre-surgery diet. My surgeon/office never told me anything about having to be on a certain diet before surgery. Where you all on a pre-surgery diet? Also, I am a diet coke-aholic. I know I can not drink my diet cokes anymore but I am so afraid that I am going to be thirsty all the time. You know some times there is nothing better to quench that thirst then to chug a lug a big glass of cold Water or in my case it has been icy cold diet coke. Since the stomach is so much smaller how do you handle not drinking a whole glass of "water" or other liquid all at once to really quench that thirst? This is my biggest fear, being thirsty all the time. Any suggestions?
