  1. Welcome to this awesome site!! You should really feel very proud of your decision and you're right your children need a healthy Dad to be around for a long time!! You can do this and you will do this. As over eaters we tend to be complusive by nature. I noticed a lot of people become exercise franatics-I hope that happens to me since I can't sit on the couch every evening just watsing my life away! Good luck to you on your journey!

  2. OMG-I did the same thing! It was crazy eating-I bought 2 little pints of Ben and Jerry's and had them gone in no time! I eat so much that when it was time to do the preop diet I was actually looking forward to flushing out my system. For me I think part of it was nerves and the other part just reckless abandonment!! I can wait until I no longer feel comfortable eating extreme amounts of food!! I definitely have a lot of respect for the people who have had this surgery-it's a lot of work and sacrifice...but it will be worth it!

  3. Today was my first day of the preop diet and I am a coffe drinker-it wasn't too bad-really. It won't be forever-you can do this!! Don't let negative thoughts get in your head and keep your eye on the prize at all times! If you can raise 7 kids you can do anything girl!!

  4. Try Dr. Strom - he is awesome and his entire staff is very professional. He was rated the top Doc in NJ in his field. Someone who was paying out of pocket for fills was seeing a different doctor and they started to add up quickly ($250 a fill) Doctor Strom said he would do it for $50 a fill. I am not from North Jersey (about an hour away) but I wouldn't go to anyone else!

  5. I was banded in August 2010, I have 4.5 cc's in my band and have lost 60 pounds. I have had NO problems with my band. In March I decided to use fill centers usa because my dr is too far away and because I was just not happy with his bedside manor. I had one fill at Fill Center USA and and it went well. Went back two weeks ago and It was very hard to access my port. After being stuck 6 times with no fluro I decided this is not good and the Dr said my port may have flipped or be stuck in a pocket.

Today I saw a different local dr after finally getting access to my medical records which after 5 phone calls and 5 faxes I finally got- only to find out they are so poorly written, my age is incorrect and there are so many blanks in the record. This guy was the worst DR I have seen, very arrogant very rude and completely bad mouthed the Realize band. Told me my weight loss was ok?? and told me I had to see the original surgeon.

I do not want to go back to my original DR but I'm beginning to think that it may be my only option. Does anyone know of a good Dr in New Jersey who uses Realize Bands?

Also if my port was flipped, wouldnt I feel it? Or be in pain? Anything?

  6. Last night I went out for my Last Supper for a while. During dinner I explained how I wouldn'tget a fill for 6 weeks and duringthat time I am virtually on a liquid diet/mushies. He made a comment saying maybe the Band is a big gimmick because if you can go that long without a fill and sticking to a diet then you can do it on you own. Today he asked out the diet's going and I said pretty good. He said it again-if you can do this diet then maybe you don't need the band. I know he means well, but he doesn't understand .

Last Sept I started WW and I lost about 30 pounds-gained 20 back! He thinks if I have the willpower to stick to this strict pre/post diet I might be able to do it on my own. How do I anser his concerns? I wish I had the mind-set and stick-to-it ness to diet it away without surgery, but I don't.

Plus most eople I know who lost weight at Weight Watchers gained it back eventually (I am a living example).

I really don't need him second guessing my surgery -especially since it's next week!

  7. That gives me such hope!!! :)

I looked at your ticker and thought that could be me next year-we were/are about the same weight. I can't even ever imagine wearing a size 2!!!!!!!! How great that must feel!! Can you share any secrets to your success? Did you have restriction right away?

  8. Today I tried the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury mixed with Water and Crystal light- not too bad. I think I would like this as a smoothie with ice in a blender. I also think it would be good with one of my Carnation drinks and I would only need a half of a scoop since the carnation drinks have a good amount of protein-I'll try that one when I get home.

The pre-op diet is going to be tough! lol I had 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of V8, and a Protein water-based drink. My delcious lunch consists of a Atkins shake and yogurt. My body is goingto go into shock every allthe food I have beenpiling in it these last few weeks!!:o

  9. Had the last supper today...well the last Breakfast, lunch, and dinner too! ACtually I have been pigging out like I'll never eat again! lol Today I was SO bad-egg mc muffin. tacos, cinnabon, and hubby took me out for king crab legs..oh plus cheese cake and Sangria! I know, I know...I shouldn't have done it...but now I am offically disgusted with my eating habits and ready for the pre-op diet. I'll probably be straving for the next week but it will be worth it

I also bought some Protein power at GNC and my powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury came in today. I picked up a vitiam packet at GNC (on sale). Also the best thing was a bottle that looks like a Water bottle but it has a wire in it so when you add Protein power and Water it's shakes it up good-perfect!! Only $9.95 and I'll get a lot of use out of it-it's called the Blender (but you just shake it). I

I told the guy at GNC that I was having the Lapband so he could direct me to the right powders-he was super helpful and very knowledgable! He said if I don't like the punch flavored powder I could return it .

  10. I read that if you eat until you are full that's is not good for the band process. Eating till you are full stretches the pouch slowly over time. And just like a baloon that gets blown up repeatly it tends to stretch-likewise with the pouch. The researcj I read suggest measuring food and eatingthat amount only-basically eating right before the full feeling.

PS- Thanks for allthe wonderful insights!! I am feeling hopeful!
