    New Jersey Anyone?

New Jersey's in the house! Welcome!! Who is your surgeon and when is your surgery date? I am from Central Jersey, but I chose a doctor in North Jersey-Dr. Storm. I had my surgery May 25th - still sore but I am back to work today! You will LOVE this site! Everyone is super helpful and friendly. What part of Jersey are you from? Good luck!

    Back to Work Tomorrow

What a crazy week! Had my surgery on Wednesday and now I am going back to work tomorrow. Diet-wise I have been doing okay. I can't wait to get on the clear liquids though-I mean enough is enough! But it will all be worth it I think I've lost 14 1/2 pounds in just 13 days so that's a good jumpstart! I have been researching a lot of recipes and websites too. The more I read the more I think "I Can Do This!" At 48 yrs. old I am ready to make a lifestyle change! Well I guess it's time to make a nice hot bowl of broth-(yawn)!

    Mushies

Found this on another site thought I'd share-I'm not on mushies yet but can't wait!! Top fat-free ricotta cheese with spaghetti sauce and low-fat mozzarella. Bake until bubbly. Mash hot cooked cauliflower together with Greek yogurt and low-fat cream cheese. Cut a hard-boiled egg in half, remove the yolk, and fill the space with hummus. (Smash well with a fork to eat.) Top fat-free refried beans or pureed black beans with smooth salsa and fat-free plain yogurt, cottage cheese, or sour cream.
  5. Heather I LOVE the layout of your blog! Awesome job! If I click create blog will all those graphics be available to me?

    removing bandages

Not much pain -trying work tomorrow. I do have a sore throat sometimes-really tight-wondering if it's GERD or Acid reflux. No, not enough proteins! lol It's so hard to get them in at this stage! I am down 14 (counting pre-op diet). Let me know what he says about the bandages
  7. Thanks for sharing! I bookmarked this one-I like some of the recipe ideas too!

    Prayer request

Deena I am so sorry to hear that you are in pain. Have you called the doctor to let him know? Are they gas pains in the neck area or pains from the incision or pains when you drink something (chest-type pains)? I think you are having natural feelings. I haven't been in much pain but I also think ..geeze will I always feel this way afer drinking a few ounces of liquids? The answer seems to be no. Give it time to heal, meanwhile you should be taking your meds. Let us know what kind of pain it is and we can offer ideas. As far as hunger goes make sure you get all the Protein in-protein gives you a "full" sense. It sounds like you may be drinking too much fluids at one time. Try measuring out fluids into a dixi cup and drink it-wait 15 minutes before taking anymore. Your band area is very swollen and can't take too much right now-but it will get better!! I know I get that feeling in the middle of my chest when I drink too much. God bless you and I do pray that you'll feel better soon. Please contact your doctor with your concerns.

    Surgery today!

Good Luck!! Please let us know how you are doing!
  11. I highly advise everyone waiting to get banded or those recently banded to get the book: Bandwagon here is the website: http://jean-onthebandwagon.blogspot.com/ This is a wonderful resource and the woman who wrote the book was banded. It's written in plain lan guage and an easy read. I took it to the hospital with me. It has a list of things to bringto the hospital, a list of questions to ask the doc after surgery, etc. Really useful stuff. The book is $20 but totally worth every pennny. I ordered from Amazon and it took about 3-4 days. Good luck to everyone out there!!
  12. I am back from AC (Atlantic City)! Being 4 days post-op when I went I was a little concerned but it went great! I packed a couple pre-made shakes, a jeloo, and 2 waters to take with me. Got to the hotel and put it all on ice. Wentto the Showboat casino and didn't win anything so we drove to the Tropicana (my fav, casino). I knew hubby was hungry and my throat was so sore I felt like it was closing up and I needed either something very cold or hot. I suggested we go to PF Changs(chinese) inside theTrop. I am VERY proud of myself. I ordered a Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri (honestly I needed something icy in my throat. I had about 4 ozs. I ordered Egg Drop Soup to be brought with my hubby's meal. Took out the egg part best I could (it's pretty minced). My throoat and tummy felt so much better! I was thinking like a Bandster-the lettuce/chicken appetizers came to the table next to me and I said to myself "I can order that or make that at home when this post-op is over" They use lettuce leaves and you scoop a mixture mixture inside and eat it like a wrap almost. Left and played Sex and the City machine and won $270!! Whoo Hoo! I feel great today-still a little sore throat.

    I'm new here,Hello :)

Welcome!! You are definitely in the right place-this sight is AWESOME! I just purshed the book "Bandwagon" and I posted on this site about how informative it is and how I wish I would have had it even before I made my decision. Educate yourself really well and then make your decision. I know this was the best decision for me! Good luck!!

    Bandwagon

Good! Keep your eye on the prize at all times! Also keep a good perspective because most people tend to post their worries, fear, setbacks and concerns on this site (which makes sense because they want help). Every now and then read the success stories-that should keep you positive! Good luck on your journey!!
  19. Okay- we are going to stay overnight at the casino today. It's about an hour and a half from my house. We are leaving late (today) and checking out pretty early (tomorrow). I know I need to get some walking in and sitting in front of a slot machine doesn't sound too strenuous-right? I am just not a home-body especially on a holiday weekend. I am trying to plan for it. I'll stay only at 1 casino, drink lots of water get soup if I want something to eat. I also plan on packing my protein shakes and some SF jello in a bag with an ice pack (hopefully the hotel will have an ice machine). If I get too tired or sore I can just have my hubby bring me back to the hotel. I hope I amnot pushing it. I don't have any gas pains at all, my stomach is sore, I haven't had a BM in 5 days but other than that I am fine. Some chest pressure/stomache pressure when I drink too fast but everything is going down and staying down. We'll see...

    Pain

The docs told me the port site would hurt the most because they actually have to attached the port to you so that's the pain you are feeling. I woke up and had 6 incisions (WTH?!) . I asked about the belly button one because that seemed pretty big and the doc said it was were the camera went in-geeze! Try some ice packs and it helped me to keep a pillow there (a little pressure). Take some Tylenol as needed and if you have trouble sleeping they told me to take tylenol PM. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

    16years and being banded

I guess it would depend on how much overweight she really is and if it's something she really wants. It's a BIG, BIG commitment. I know these years are suppose to be some of the best with dating, and friendships,it's all about being a social butterfly. Sometimes when you are very heavy it can be a painful time too. Make sure this is something SHE wants and not just something you think would be good for her. She will have to "do" the program, not anyone else. I think your doctors would be the best advisors in this case (as long as they are not out to make money). Good luck with whatever you both decide! Stay in touch and keep us updated.
  22. Same here-haven't told children...doesn't seem fair to ask them to keep secrets on my behalf. I am sure eventually I will though!
  23. Oh-if your son's play is a week away from your surgery date you should be fine-although some people do take longer to heal. A lot of us go back to work within a week so a play should be no problem (jus make sure you have a seat!)

    Newbie!! 3 Days post op!!

Hello Seattle!! Welcome and congrats on your band!! I was banded on the 25th and seem to be doing pretty good as well! I wish I would have gotten the band in my 20's rather then 40's-you have such a bright (and skinny) future ahead of you!

    What to Tell'em

Kepp in mind the more people you tell the more it will spread. If you tell 6, expect 18 to know eventually (secrets are hard to keep!). Think about who you will really need to help you with this journey (childcare) maybe invite them over your house and just tell them. Tell them you are not really asking for opinions or advice but rather support with caring for yr. child. I only told my hubby so far. I mentioned it to my BF but I didn't tell her I went into surgery. I just told my boss I needed a few days off for some personal outpatient surgery that I needed. Good luck!!
