  1. I do swimming as well. I just added yoga to my routine and am really liking it! I actually am stronger than I think. Today I was planking!

My nutritionist recommended to keep the metabolism going is "muscle confusion" so if you shake up what you are doing and what muscles you are using, it will keep your metabolism on its toes so to speak. What I like is that it gives me more variety so when I go back to the treadmill, I have a renewed enthusiasm for it!

Next up, I'm getting my bike's tires filled and adding that.

  2. For me, exercise was key. I decided that I needed to double up on my calorie burn so if I normally did 30 minutes on a treadmill, I did 60 minutes. Then I started doing bursts of running (2 minutes every 15 minutes).

I also goaled myself to walk 12,000 steps a day (up from 10,000). I recently had two 20,000+ step days in one week! My Fitbit almost shorted out!

    :P

Now with summer, I alternate swimming and treadmill. But I do exercise almost everyday now and it is now a priority. I actually crave it like I use to crave french fries! Really!

What I found was that the exercise really helped curb cravings and my appetite seems normal. I lost 10 lbs in 8 weeks. And I can totally tell my metabolism is fired up.

One thing that all my medical partners reminded me, that when you get closer to your goal weight and farther away from surgery, weight loss does slow down. I was losing 2 lbs a week up to 6 months out and then slowed down to about .5 per week! So I am thrilled with one lb a week now.

Good luck and hang in there. It's normal to have a plateau.

  3. I LOVE MY NUTRITIONIST! She has been the key to making it all make sense.

I had to switch after my first one (associate with the surgeon) was a knucklehead. My new one is also in the same office and I think they keep her hidden because she's so great and they don't want the other one to be out of a job. (OK. I'm just wild guessing here. But seriously. If you knew the woman, you'd know what I mean!)

My new nutritionist is a myfitmesspal friend so she keeps me honest! She is a true partner for me and that's what I really need.

  4. Hmmmm. I'm not sure why you were required to purchase from your doctor.

My opinion is that Protein is a very personal decision and you have to experiment until you find the one that tastes the best for you. Some of the ones that people rave about here I do not like at all and I'm sure my favorite is not the favorite of others.

Once you find the one that's most pleasing to you, it does make the Protein shake part of your lift much happier!

  5. Love it! I was thinking that this was posted right before she was rolled into surgery. (If it were me I would have been LOOPY from the pre op cocktail.)

She should be almost out at this point.

Good luck to all of you!

  6. Have you tried putting an arch support in your shoe? This helps stretch out the tendons so the plantar facitis is not so bad. Also make sure you do a nice set of stretches that focus on your hamstring. These are all lessons that I have lived through! And a good icing of your heels will help take swelling down. As your weight goes down you will see an improvement.

Why not try exercises that don't require you banging on your feet? Cycling, swimming are two that come to mind.

Also make sure you invest in a good athletic shoe. My podiatrist recommends New Balance for this condition.

    Good luck!

  7. Well, any topic title "pastries" is enough to get me to open!

The few pastries I have had since surgery have not been an issue. I guess because I can chew them up better then bread (my nemesis). I am not sure what Cuban pastries are exactly but I do love Cuban sandwiches which I really shouldn't have since bread always gets stuck. (It's that pickle that gets me gaga about Cubans!)

  8. Its always great to put a smile on sum1s face. How much do you have n ur band. Wat did u eat with the chicken

    I have 9.1 and that'll be it I think.

I would see what interesting vegetables they might have. Fill up on Protein and add veggies.

Curry is delicious but sometimes upsets my tummy especially if it's swimming in sauce. It's hard to describe but to me it is the classic Indian taste. I love it as a chicken salad with cranberries.

  9. As I always say, I am not a medical professional. But you could call your MD and see if it's OK to add.

I hesitate to add anything to my Vitamin regimen without checking first because of the almost deadly combo I had when I was put on 5000 mg of D3 with an out of whack thyroid. I got a panicky call from her office to stop taking it immediately once she got a consult from an endocrinologist. But that's another story for another day...

  10. Congratulations. Your post made me smile!

My last fill about 3 weeks ago was .4 cc and that was the magic amount. Totally get the restriction now! It may seem like a little but there will be a tipping point that gets you at your perfect fill amount.

I would go tandoori chicken. Lotsa flavor, lean cooking. Good Protein. I would skip any rice or naan. (Is that how you spell it?)

    Enjoy!

  11. Totally unprofessional. I would definately write directly or speak with whoever is the top manager for the clinic. The idea that a medical professional would look down on a patient for dealing with a medical problem is beyond the pale.

    Amen!

Would she have said something so insensitive to someone who has cancer? So rude. Now I am really ticked off at this nurse I don't even know!

If you need me to be your wingman, send me the email of the clinic. ;)

  12. I just returned from a week in California! It was a fun trip but the best part?

Fitting in an airplane seat! Without an extension! And extra room! And no embarrassment of spilling into the next chair! Being able to use the tray!

Plus...my band did NOT set off any alarms at either airport (O'Hare and San Diego). I didn't noticed any tightening.(Although I think I secretly was hoping too as an insurance policy.)

This, my dear LB brethren, has made it all worth it. And opened a new (travel) chapter in my life. Look out Rome! I have my eye on you next!

    :P

  13. From what my NP tells me, your body will take as much of it as it needs and then wastes the rest. (Tinkle time!)

I'm on 1,000. She said I could take the 5,000 but wasn't sure if that would make any difference. I think I'm good with the 1,000. Plus I do a B12 which also pumps in some benefits too.

Another trick is that I changed from my Suave Shampoo to a better quality (Aveda) which has cosmetically pumped up my hair too. I use the thickening shampoo, conditioner and styling. I like it.

  14. So today 8 days post op I had my stitches out at a general clinic not my lap band folks. The nurse said i should have tried to be consistent with food and exercise instead of the operation. I was really kind and explained I needed this tool and why and that in fact I have exercised regularly for years. Hopefully she will begin to understand rather than assume things. I remember when I has lost 80 pou ds I had a gallblader attack. The doctor said to stop eating Kentucky fried chicken. Who the he'll loses 80 pounds eating that? and furthermore I do not like junk food I prefer cooking from scratch and organic sourced when available. ah well I must make assumptions about things too but I was just so happy and that was a bit of a bummer but stitches gone!

Frankly, as a professional woman, I find this wildly unprofessional of the nurse. And since this is still a business, I would have said something to the doctor or the office manager. I had to do that with my first nutritionist who was so completely unprofessional I couldn't take it any more. (Not in this way but she was always always ALWAYS late for appointments...by a lot. Like I had nothing else to do but wait for her. And then she could never remember who I was or my name.) Now I have a great nutritionist who lets me email her! And she's always on time!

    Just my opinion.

  15. How long did it take yours to stop? I'm trying not to panic but it's hard!!

It was about a month. I am not hairy by nature but one day in the shower, there was hair on my legs! And I haven't had hair on my legs in many years.

Plus my hair has the curl now it had when I was a young girl. It's crazy.
