    Medic altert bracelets

I have a card too and was told to keep that on me at all times. I keep it with my driver's license and insurance card.

    negative feedback

Don't give this d-bag any more of your money or your time! Trainers are a dime a dozen and I am sure there are plenty out there that would be thrilled to have you as a client. Don't let this discourage for a single moment. Part of your success will be building a sound support system and this guy shouldn't be a part of it.

    Food Question "Pickles"

Pickles are not on my do not eat list. Raw cucumbers with skin are though. I love pickles too. They satifsy me like potato chips when eating a sandwich at a much less calorie cost. Your nutritionist most likely will go over the yes and no foods with you once you get to solids.

    The Gurgles

In the past few weeks, my stomach (pretty sure it's the lower part) has been making gurgling sounds. Not hungry gurgles but more like alien gurgles. I'm not hungry or intolerant of foods. It seems to happen at bed time and I lay there listen to the symphony. Weird. Am I a lone gurgler?

    Diabetic Shake Recipes

I like Jay Robb protein. It's made with stevia and quite good. A little thin but it's the best I have found in my search for the perfect protein. You can get it at Whole Foods or at jayrobb.com. Don't be frightened by the dude with the ripped abs wearing an open Hawaiian shirt sporting a moustache. He's leftover from the 80s.

    How Many Guys Getting Banded?

Can I just say I was LOL at your screen name? With that sense of humor, you are going to do well with the process!

    pre-op diet day 9

I'll bet your body may be in a starvation mode with the reduced calorie intake. For me, the pre op diet was to shrink the liver to help facilitate the surgery. The weight loss was an added plus. I didn't loose all that much. Pre op diet is yuck-o but believe me it will be a distant memory when you are through surgery and recovering. Good luck and hang in there!

    Feeling Super Sneaky

I'm reading this post and smiling because I didn't tell anyone for the first 8 months of my march to surgery. And, honestly, I liked having this secret that only my circle of doctors knew about. Once I got the approval from the insurance company, I was ready to tell all that needed to know. (Work, family, those I was choosing for my support team.) When i got closer to my leave date, more had to know. Not telling anyone for so long was a HUGE part of my health care psychologist appointments. OMG. Every session. He did approve me after 3 sessions but we talked about it ad nauseum, I really think he didn't think I would tell anyone. I was worried about reaction when I did finally "come out" but everyone has been super supportive. I was glad that I waited because I didn't want to talk about it for months with all the questions about progress etc. It was the right decision for me. The approval put everything in motion. Enjoy your private time with this. But I'll bet a year's pay when you do start telling people, the response will be good and even surprisingly supportive.
  9. Been there! With the sleep apnea. I was convinced I did not have it. And my test, they didn't wake me to put me on CPAP. So I thought I had proved the experts wrong. But I do have it. It's weird but I love my CPAP machine! Every since I've gotten it, my sleep health is so much better. SO MUCH BETTER. I hope that someday I don't have to use it anymore but it has been a God send. My machine is super quiet too which was surprising. I just had my 12 week post op follow up with my GP. It was also our 1st anniversay since i sheeplishly walked into her office to inquire about bariatric surgery. I went through a lot of tests(A LOT OF TESTS!) the past year until 9 months later, I finally had surgery. So I understand about all the testing. But my was not entirely insurance based. But I am glad now that it took so long to get to surgery because I went in good health, 40 lb lighter and all that made surgery and recovery so much better. My GP remarked how i didn't give up after all the tests (and 1 parathyroidectomy). It was all necessary. Don't get discouraged. Listen to your team of doctors. They are the experts. The time will go quickly. Good luck. PS: I used to have Aetna until my company switched to Blue Cross. My Aetna insurance was one of the reasons I didn't pursue lap band earily. "Crappy Aetna" is what I used ot call them so I understand....I totally understand...

    Finally told my family today

My whole process started last April and it took until I got my insurance approval in December to tell anyone! The only people that knew what I was up to were the circle of doctors that were involved. It was really difficult for me in my own mind. It's what my health pyschologist and I talked about FOREVER. But I know my family and I know they would have questions, questions, questions. So I wanted to have all the info and the approval before sitting them down and telling them. I must admit that I did enjoy having my own secret for all those months. There was no pressure in case I failed. When I did tell my family, I guess I was expecting a bigger response. I think I would I have gotten more of a reaction if I told them I had a dentist appointment next Tuesday. But that was a blessing. No push back. Questions. And a "let us know when you are going in." My circle of friends were supportive, happy and excited for me. And since surgery, my parents have been more supportive than I ever thought they would be. As a move away from my surgery date, I find that I am more willing to discuss openly. I am not ashamed or embarassed but it is a private decision but I am not afraid to "come clean" and share my experience with those who want to know. The one person I have haven't told is my close friend who lives in California. I just can't bring myself to give her the info over the phone. But I am getting closer to that time.

    Soreness in the stomach

It took me about 8 weeks before there was no soreness and I could bend over without cringing. Everyone heals a different rate. I was like you. I thought I'd be up and around in 3 days. Not so. I was very slow to feel better and it was 10 days before I stopped using any pain pills. (I think I have a high tolerance for pain so this was unusually for me.) Good luck!
  12. My nutrionist said to eat bread but make sure it was toasted so it would pass easier. She recommended eating it because I was getting too hungry between meals and this would help fill me up. She was right. I haven't had pizza yet. And not really craved it. I suspect that you could make a healthy version that would be tolerated better and would satisfy your taste buds. I have found that I do get sick when I have anything too high in fat so that could be why I am not craving pizza.

    Full from vitamins?

Blech. I hate vitamins. They make me nauseated. But then I don't feel like eating anything for at least an hour. But then once they make their way through, I am STARVING.

    Struggling Big Time

Don't give up! Do you have a health psychologist? For me, that has helped sort things out. I still see him about every six weeks as a touch base. 40 lb is a good weight loss and you can just build from there. One day at a time, one meal at a time. Good luck!

Got appppproved and date SO EXCITED!

Congratulations! I remember when I got my letter from Blue Cross. It was a few days before Christmas. I called the surgeon's office the next day to book a date and they had to call me back. Several days later! Which just about killed me. But then I was able to go public with my plans. My pre op diet was 10 days. First day rough and then the rest was not so bad. First week after surgery all liquids of course but I got tired of nothing with taste so I got some hot and sour Soup from the Chinese restaurant. Just had the broth but it was soooooo good. My first day of mush was oatmeal for Breakfast. It tasted like a filet mignon! Best of luck to you!

    I am really afraid!

My funny moment was my surgeon for the thyroid is Brazilian and the first thing I said to him when I was quite sedated still was "I am so sorry that I don't speak Portguese!" He chuckled and told me there was plenty of time for that later!

    Protein Shakes

I like Jay Robb Protein. You can get it at Whole Foods and online. It's a little thin for me so I add banana or dream whip to give it more umpf. I have come to prefer the egg protein v. the whey. The strawberry with banana, a little OJ and blended ice is super yummy for breakfast. I have heard muscle milk is good. I am going to try that too.

    Blender?

I bought the Ninja because you get a blender and a food processor that I use for mush days. The Ninja does ice really well and if you want a "Frosty" like Protein drink it's the best. $50. I blend my drinks in the AM and take them in a container. I also use lucite straws that I wash so it's good for the enviroment too!

    I am really afraid!

It's human nature to have these fears. I have been there too! I had to have thyroid surgery prior to this surgery. That was my first surgery ever. I was so petrified that I couldn't think straight for days before. My surgeon is an outstanding doctor and human and when I told him I was extremely scared (mostly about the anesthesia) he assured me that there was no reason to worry. But I was still nervous until I actually got in the pre op room. My anesthesiologist was a HOTTIE (for some reason that helped!) and when I told him that I was terrified he was very compassionate too. What helped was that first shot to ease my nerves. AWESOME!! Completely took the edge off. When you get into the OR, you'll be out in a few minutes and won't even remember it. This surgery I was very calm because I knew what to expect. The anesthesiologist (I tried to book my first one but no luck) was about 2 weeks from retirement but equally qualified and kind as well. And my surgeon is one of the best in business. You will come through with flying colors! I didn't enjoy the pre op diet but once after surgey, it was a distant memory. Just outshout your fears with the voice of facts and reason! Good luck!
