  1. my family live in another state also. a few years ago i went home 70 pounds lighter (low calorie and excersise) so i would just say the same thing. i'm not ashame of the surgery but i don't have the energy to explain the procedure and listen to people's opinions about it.
  2. I really want to tell my sisters but: i keep seeing the one doing a happy dance when i told her it was on hold and the other one i told i was thinking about going to Mexico told me i was scaring her now and never brought the subject up again. so it will definitely be after i return from mexico before they know, how soon after i don't know. my close friends don't know either. i can't stand to hear one more time "you're not that big" since when is 5'6 245 pounds not that big? i have coworkers who know where i am going.
  3. I know everyone had said it but i wanted to say it also: you are truly an inspiration. thank you for posting this pictures. i need to keep a pair of pants also to remind myself in the future of how far i've come.
  4. i haven't had surgery yet but i had lost 20 from the preop period. i went from a 20 to 16W/18. Since i'm having my surgery in less than 3 weeks there is nowhere my size will go but down!! it felt sooo good cleaning out my closet.. good bye to the 20's then the 18 then the 16, etc.. gotta make room for my new skinny clothes i'm going to buy can't wait!!
  5. i totally understand about the favorite outfits but then i realize how many cute clothes i couldn't buy cause they didn't have my size. funny thing is i had given my mom my clothes from when i was smaller a few months ago (forgetting the weight loss process i'm about to embark) can i ask for those back? lol i loved those outfits. oh well i guess i just have to shop for new ones!
  6. i've always been fat (at the age of 14 i was 210) but it got worse during college, of course. i didn't start dieting until medical school. i lost 70 pounds in med school and i saw how life was on the other side. i was ecstatic. 4th yr medical school, i was away from my routine, working nights in a different state (texas), wearing scrubs and eating mcdonald fries and mcflurries. i put on 20 pounds in one month. then my yoyo dieting started. residency was extremely difficult physically and emotionally (i was dealing with racism). it took a lot of prayer from my mom (cause at that time i was too angry at God to pray) that prevented me from going into full blown clinical depression. i did everything: monitored weight loss program, weight watchers, south beach,personal trainer, adipex, hypnosis tape, calorie count. i would lose then gain it back. i was so ashame of myself. i hated traveling. i hated taking pictures. my knees were hurting me. i did everything to avoid going home to see my family because i was fat (relatives can be cruel with their comments about your weight... eventhough my parents and sisters were supportive). one of the nurses i worked with had the sleeve and that's when i decided i wanted surgery. now 3 years (because of financial reasons) later the time is almost near. this year my father got diagnose with type 2 diabetes (he's already had the hypertension and sleep apnea). my family don't understand why i can't just lose the weight again like i did in medical school. my "skinny sisters" feel like i'm beautiful big (i carry my weight well
  7. i'm planning on going back to work after a week, I don't know if that's a good idea or not but i couldn't afford to take more time off. i've arranged it so the week i return back to work i will only see patients for half days. i'll see how everything turns out.

    Not Ready For Surgery

    like everyone has been saying most of us go through the process. i haven't had my sleeve yet and have been eating all my favorite foods. in the begining it was bad.. i was eating A LOT but now i have tapered down. I 've weigh myself to make sure i havent regain all the weight i had lost during my preop phase. Unfortunately where i'm at there's not a lot of therapists but if you can find one it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to see them. good luck to you. this is battle me and you can win.

    Sleeve = anorexia?

    Are you talking about the weight loss stage or the maintanance stage? With anorexics lanugo hair is form to keep the body warm because the body fat is gone. also, they will have electrolyte imbalance and kidney failure because the body is breaking down muscle for energy. during the weight loss stage you are encourage to get in a lot of proteins (to prevent muscle breakdown), fluids and vitamins (since you are on strict low caloric intake). you are also eating more frequently so the body doesn't think you are starving. you will feel the tiredness after surgery because of decrease in calories and carbs but your body adjust to eat and eventually energy will increase.
  19. thanks! i've never had surgery before so this is a scary process but i'm even more scared of not doing this. i don't want to get the hypertension, diabetes and sleep apnea. i have so many plans.
  20. it does feel good to lose the weight! i had stopped dieting for 2 years and had always feel ashame to visit my family back home but after i lost this initial weight i didn't mind going home. To think this is just the begining. i am ready to start enjoying myself again.
  21. i have been resisting buying new clothes and wearing hospital scrubs to work but a couple of times i had to go somewhere and try on different clothes and couldn't find anything that fit right. i broke down and bought a couple pair of black pants to last me for now. surgery in 2 weeks and 3 days!

    BCBS of Tennessee

    I have BCBS Tennessee PPO and got denied the sleeve and was told i can apply for the band or the bypass. the insurance lady told in all the times she's been working there (10 yrs) she had never seen them approve it (granted she may have been lying to me). i was really angry but i didn't have the energy to appeal. i chose to go the self pay route in Mexico. i'm sched for june 11. i know that didn't answer your question, good luck to you.
  23. you looked beautiful before the weight loss, now you look amazing... congrats. don't just focus on the the amount of weight loss but on how you feel and look. you honestly look like you've lost more than that.
