  1. that was my problem too after surgery, i had my sleeve 6/11. i didn't have a lot of pain from the surgery except for horrible gas pains. i did everything, i was praying and begging to god to just let me burp..lol. surgery was on saturday and i didn't start feeling a little better till tues (i pass gas on the plane). i still have problems with it. the solution for gas pain is time. try to stay from the narcotics as much as possible cause they slow down your gut movement.
  2. I'm a female, 5'6 and have been over 200 lbs since i was at least 13 years old. in my 20's i dropped down to 170 but my goal was 160 but my body wouldn't allow that. i'm a pear shape and people were telling me i was looking to skinny, lol eventhough my bottom size was a 14. i'm 5 days post op and weigh 228 before surgery, 248 before preop diet. i asked the surgeon what my goal weight should be(i was curious about what he would say) and he said 130's, i think i basically laugh in his face but i meant no disrespect. i'm in the health profession i don't think bmi is a very accurate tool or take into consideration race (ie black women vs white women). according to bmi at 160 i would be overweight, but i think my bottom size would be 10 or 12, which is okay by me. so i'll see how i look as a whole once i'm in those weight range.
  3. yes protonix is available in the US, i don't know how expansive it is though.
  4. thats exciting! do they all know you had the surgery?
  5. i guess i shouldn't be surprised, but my period had never come early before. i just had surgery five days ago and my period started today! 2 weeks ahead of schedule. now i have to deal with discomfort from surgery along with those from my monthly friend, fun.

    Hair extensions?

i'm a black lady so i don't know if this will be helpful to you. when i've had weaved theres two ways they do it. if i want sew-in, they braid my hair in cornrows first. if it's glue they glue it to the scalp. i know there are other methods out there. i don't think the extensions will fall out though when you take them out you may be shock at how much hair comes out at the same time (instead of the gradual). i decided to have microbraids for the the next few months so i won't stress too much while i'm dealing with recovery.
  7. i know what you mean. my mom is very supportive of me losing weight but can't resist feeding me at the same time. i don't have a surgeon but i have a good friend who's a family pratictioner. she knew i had the surgery in Mexico and is willing to be my doctor if need be. i did have another pcp but i don't want to continue using her. i am praying i won't need a surgeon because of complications from the surgery.
  8. hey sarsar... yes i'm an ob/gyn.. it was weird being the patient. i don't know how many times i've talked to patients before surgery but now i have a better perspective. i know the risks involve even with the most minor surgery so my decision was after long thoughts. i definitely recommend dr. aceves. at the hospital, i did not feel like i was in a third world country about to have major surgery.
  9. everyone feel this way before surgery. you are normal. just remember why you want to make this lifestyle change and take it one day at a time. find projects to do to keep your mind from thinking too much about the surgery.
  10. well i gave my mom a heads up about me losing weight. i told her i was going to restart my diet and by the time she sees me, which is going to be thanksgiving, i'm gonna be skinny, lol. it won't be the first time i went home after they haven't seen me for months and be smaller. thanksgiving is going to be an experience.

    Water/sippy cup

i just had surgery 4 days ago. suprising my throat didn't hurt from the intubation. i had gas pain so i wasn't interested in drinking. you can feel the fluid going down in your new stomach. I'm still bloated but i find myself able to drink more if it's a small cup (psychologically its not as daunting) and ice cold. i used to like room temperature water before surgery now i find myself not feeling it. I'm on my 2nd sippy cup (each one is 10 oz) for the day and i had a grape popsicle (haven't had one since i was a kid).
  12. I figure i will wait a couple more weeks before i tell them but i am so tempted now but i will hold off for now.
  13. your story is like mine and like a lot of people on this forum. I went alone to mexico on 6/10 and had my surgery 6/11 and just came back last night. my total flight time was 7 hours, eventhough it took me over 12 hrs to get home due to delays, i survived that. I had my surgery with dr. aceves and i highly recommend him, I'm an ob/gyn practicing in the U.S so it wasn't an easy decision to fly to mexico to have surgery, i was very happy with the information i gathered on dr aceves. My family and almost all of my close friends don't know i went to mexico and had bariatric surgery (i told one good friend and 3 of my coworkers). the sad thing is i am very close to my family especially my sisters but i didn't want the extra stress. they knew i wanted to have the surgery and weren't too happy with that. I am waiting till i recover and i will tell them though not my parents. so if it something you really want, do a lot of research so you feel comfortable (you will always have a little doubt and that's okay). if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. good luck to you.
  14. So i actually had my surgery 6/11/11 in mexicali with dr aceves. i'll post my experience later. this just seem unreal to me. I have wanted this surgery for almost 3 years and now i'm like WTF did i do to myself lol. I am so happy I discovered this forum. First of all I want to thank all the brave men and women who were brave enough to go to mexico to have their surgeries and shared there experiences (especially those who went alone). If it wasn't for you guys I would not have known that was an option for me. I wanted my surgery to be done in the U.S but when my insurance company denied my claim I would have been devasted if i didn't know about my other option. I just got home from a long horrible day at the airport but I wanted to let you guys know i had no regrets going to mexico. surgery went without complications (except for pain but thats another story). Thank you guys for your thoughts and prayers.
  15. Its a weird feeling... I am numb. Everything seems surreal. Pray for me, surgery is tomm!
  16. Hey guys today is the day!!!!! In the hospital awaiting to start.. I listening to my gospel music . I m not panicking...YET. I'm in mexicaly with dr aceves

    Surgery Tomorrow!!!

my thoughts and prayers with you. i'm being sleeve this saturday and those thoughts are going through my head also so that means we are normal (right?).. lol. I think having a support group will help keep this freaking weight off.
  20. I heard about the ROSE procedure, here's a quick peak: ROSE, which stands for Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endolumenal, is a new, safer, incisionless, gastric bypass revision. It is not a primary method of weight loss surgery, but a follow-up procedure that is specifically designed for gastric bypass patients with weight regain. The ROSE procedure is indicated for gastric bypass patients who were initially successful in losing the excess weight but are now regaining some of the lost weight because the stomach and stoma have stretched out and no longer effectively control hunger and food intake.

    Where are my Flirty Thirties?

when the plastic jewelries came out i was mortified, couldn't believe that style came back, and all the bright color mixtures
  22. now parents don't know i'm having bariatric surgery they just wouldn't understand. my sisters know i want to have it done but they think i've put the whole process on hold since i got denied by the insurance company (one of them hope it never happens, she don't want me having surgery). i visited my family at the end of april and by that time i had lost over 20 pounds (for preop purposes) and my mom was so happy for me. i was talking to her recently and she's asking how the dieting and weight loss going and i said to her by the time she sees me next (which will be november or december and i'm having the surgery in june) i'm going to be "skinny". i don't think i will ever tell my parents. i will tell my sisters after i have the surgery but haven't decided yet when i will tell. i don't like lying but i feel like i don't have a choice at this point.. i can't deal with their negativity on top of my own stress of having surgery for the first time in my life and doing so in a foreign country.
  23. my family is from the caribbean and is very traditional so trying to explain weight loss surgery , so not happening
  24. that is so true. it may be my own projections but i do feel that one of my friends who is also obese don't want to lose her miserable company (me) and one of my sisters don't want to not be the one with the body (she started exercising now since i visited one looking smaller).
  25. i totally agree about people's ignorance! they don't ask questions they just start going off on what "they know". with my mom i have to make sure when i go home to visit, i don't undress in front of her! how would i explain the scars , my mom is very observant she would notice them, lol.
