    First Meal !

    I think the burping is normal. Every time a piece of food goes down for me, I feel the gas bubbling up starting with the first bite... And when I burp, I'm not sure if the food won't come up.. not fun

    How soon to start seeing results?

    Remember that if you lose 15 pounds, it's not 15 pounds from you your hips, it from your whole body: maybe it's 2 pounds from the arms, 5 from the waist, etc. The weight will come off and you will see results.
  3. I bought the chicken and vegetable broths and spice them to taste and put them in the freezer so I wouldn't have to do that when i come home. I also got those Asian soup and just strain them for the broth cause I got tired of chicken broth lol.
  4. In my practice I deal with a lot of morbidly obese women and I am always talking to people about healthy eating and exercise and i have talked to some about bariatric surgery. It's amazing to me what people consider small. When I would mention to patients that I'm going to have bariatric surgery they would look me up and down and say "you look normal" At that point I was 248 pounds (I'm 5'6).... Uhm that is not normal. Fast forward to today, I am 40 pounds lighter than I was back in January. I was talking to this patient about weight loss, again she looked me up and down and say " you doctors are always thin". I burst out laughing cause I have seen plenty of fat doctors and I am over 200 pounds (that is not in any book considered thin). I feel as society as a whole become bigger people have a skewed idea of what normal should be. I personally don't put too much stress on BMI, even now my goal weight would put me as overweight, but I don't want to look sick. The wonderful thing I have noticed is when I mention that bariatric surgery is an option these women really listen and ask me to give them information. They hear so many negative things about it and to see me a "normal person" and in the medical profession saying it's okay to consider it makes it okay for it to be an option for them. one nice thing: a lot of my patients who are new too me can't believe I used to be 40 pounds heavier. I can't wait till they can't believe I use to be 90 pounds heavier

    me thin?

    I get ask a lot about the risks which is good. There's also the horror stories that they have heard and I tell them someone get killed every few seconds in a car accident does that prevent them from getting into a car. Someone on this forum had asked this question: how many fat 90 yo do you know? and I think that's a great question. I also tell my patients if they don't do something about their obesity it will definitely kill them (one way or the other).

    Labor Day - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

    I met my 4th of July goal. I weigh myself today and actually exceed it by 2 points. To my labor day challenge: Starting weight........ Surgery weight........ Current weight........Goal weight........ lbs to goal 248............................228..............................208..........................195........................14 I will faint once I'm no longer 200 pounds (I was 210 pounds when I was 13 years old).
  7. Happy birthday!!! I understand how you feel. I was invited to a house warming/4th of july celebration. They had bar-b-cue! but I was on full liquids so i couldn't eat anything but it looked so appetizing. i left early cause it was torture. Think about how you are going to reward yourself with a cute outfit in a few months. For birthday celebration, go to the movies or the spa for a facial.
  8. sorry to hear that you haven't a hard time.. my thoughts and prayers with you. Once you get some iv fluids in you and some antibiotics you will feel so much better. Did they confirm that you had a PE?

    4th of July - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

    Yay!! I met my 4th of July goal. I lost 18 pounds since surgery (had surgery on the 11th of june.. it got postponed). Now I weigh 210.

    Post op Day 8

    You haven't done anything wrong. I stopped losing after day 8 and then after a week I lost 2 pounds. Try to weigh yourself around the same time and just once a week. remember you weigh more in the afternoon than in the morning. Just keep concentrating on getting in your fluids and then as much protein as you can (at this stage i wasn't able to get in a lot).

    Being alone after surgery

    I went to mexico alone and had my surgery then I had someone to pick me up at the airport. I was fine by myself, didn't need anyone. I had stocked up for after the surgery. I had people call me to check up on me. Within a week of my surgery I was driving around and i went back to work 8 days after my surgery. It is good to have someone that can stay with you if you have complications. I think God the worst of my problems was gas pain, it took 4 days for that to get better.
  12. I'm technically suppose to start mushies tomm but I've having such a hard time with liquids (in terms of everything seems unappetising) that i decided to add a couple of soft food. Yesterday for dinner I had craving for crabcake (does that consider mushie) and after 3-4 small bites minutes apart, I started feeling sort of ill so I stopped. Today I tried egg/cheese and again after 3 small bites I started feeling ill. I don't know if I'm being paranoid and being fearful of eating "normal" food after 20 days of liquids. I don't like cottage cheese. what suggestions do you guys have? I am so tired of protein drinks that I want to go a day without having to drink one.
  13. thanks guys for you answers and support. I don't think I'll be getting anymore crabcakes for a while, lol. My problem is I didn't grow up eating a lot of american foods (i'm from the carribean) so it's hard to find healthy things I like. I grew up eating rice and rice and rice with beans and meat. just to give you an example, I only started eating yogurt a few years ago. How do I make chicken salad without mayo (I can't stand the thought of mayonaise, yuk)?
  14. I'm taking nexium.. Isn't it funny that I'm afraid to start trying real food? I don't think I will chew enough and am afraid I'm gonna throw up and hurt my sleeve. I guess I have to take it one day at a time.
  15. Same thing happened to me, I had surgery 20 days ago. I lost 14 pounds in 8 days then I went 5 days without losing. I freaked out cause like you said, I had heard about the 3 week stall but not one at one week. Then I lost 2 pounds. So far this week I haven't lost anything (which is very frustrating). First thing, stop weighing yourself every day. I know it's amazing to have lost so much so soon. I made myself put the scale away and will weigh myself once a week at work. I don't believe this is a stall. Your body is regrouping. Just continue what you are doing and you will lose weight. Congrats on the awesome weight loss.

    Wish me Luck

    The first week on clears were hard.. couldn't get a lot in but i went from only being able to take in 16 oz to at least 50 oz. Now i've started mushies and i could only take a couple of bites of the things i've tried (crabcake and egg/cheese, probably not the best choices but i was craving them) before i started feeling sick. I did not enjoy them. The first week i lost 14 pounds, the second week i lost 2 pounds and now on my 3rd week i haven't lost anything yet. It's frustrating the dramatic difference but hey a lost is a lost. If I didn't have the sleeve I probably would have given up if I saw I didn't lose weight. I know the weight will come off. I am concentrating on my Protein, not getting enough and i will start my Vitamins.

    i think im hungry!!

    I am 17 days out and it is weird how it is hard to decide if it's hunger. The first wk I couldn't tell if it was gas pain or hunger pain. Now I can tell it is hunger pain but I have no urge to eat. Eating is a chore to me, I keep drinking cause I don't want to end up in the ER, now I'm trying to get enough protein in so I don't lose muscle mass.

    I don't have an answer to your question but I would like to hear what people have done. I'm 34 5'6, started out weighing 248 and was sleeved on the 11th of june. I'm still on full liquids. I too am scared to start eating regular food (though i'm tired of what i'm eating now). best of luck in your journey.
  20. I understand your frustration because if you are barely eating shouldn't you lose weight? but like it was said before you have not gain 2 pounds of fat. I had a big loss the 1st week and then nothing the following week. I had my surgery a couple of weeks ago. I am going to have to put the scale away (i also have a scale at work ) and not weigh myself everyday. Also, are you still having periods? could it be the time of the month?

  22. Okay, I know how calories, protein and fluids I'm suppose to get in a day. What's the maximum amount of carbs should i limit myself to a da? is 60 grams too much? I'm still in the full liquid stage and in a week I'll be doing mushies.

  24. It is very comforting to hear that it is possible to not lose weight in the 2nd week. this is why i love this website, you have people that can share their experiences with you and tell you not to freak out . without the sleeve, i would have gotten discourage and blow my diet. yay sleeve!
  25. Ok logically I know I'm being ridiculous. I am post op day 13 and I can't understand how I can los 14 pounds in my first week and now in my second week I have not lost a pound. I would have been ok with losing it 7 pounds one week and 7 pound the next week. I just started my full liquids 2 days ago, not taking in that much calories, so i'm stump. I just had my period so I know it's not hormonal. Did this happen to anyone else? Any advice? Also what are some suggestions for full liquid diet besides Protein shakes and yogourt?
