    Post-op Challenges

Ok, maybe its just me but I am so not there yet! I NEVER use to nap B4 I had this band, but now, it seems all I do is NAP! Discussed this with my Dr at follow up appointment yesterday and she says that since I am not quite meeting my daily fluid or protein needs, and that I did just have surgery, my body does not have the reserve. I can't WAIT to have all this evergy or actually to just return to my preband energy level! I was very active pre band and never a napper and always on the go. Well perhaps I will feel more energetic after I get to Post op week 2! Good Luck Fellow Bandsters! Going to venture to the grocery store and wak around a lil!
  2. I am using this 1 oz medicine cup to drink my liquids to make sure that I do not drink too much. But can someone please tell me when you were able to drink- at least 4 oz at a time ( small sips of course). I am not getting my 80 oz of fluid in daily- more like 40 oz! Had gas so bad last night, I could not even have my 3rd protein drink! I am trying but this is a little more complex then I imagined. I am sticking with it but needs some words of encouragement for the hopefully near future! THanks n advace.

    eat anything.

I'm a little confused, even if a "non-banded" person ate a turkey sandwich, that is very filling for a "regular" size stomach, so Y r you hungry 2 hrs later?? I just don't get it. It just seems like that should be filling for a regular person banded or not so y is this not filling you?
  4. Thanks ladies, I finally got it to work, had to resize the pic!
  5. I have my pic in my profile but i dont know how to get it to show when i post a topic or respond to one. HELP!!!
  6. I dont mean to be a bad influence, but EAT WHILE YOU CAN!!! lol I wish i woudl have had some Pizza and wings before I started my pre-op liq diet! I went to cheesecake factory! Not what I really wanted but whats done is done! Enjoy and GOod Luck!

  7. I agree, everyone hit it right on the head- sounds like your blood sugar was low and your fluid intake was a little low.. I did that the day after I was banded- "BAD IDEA" I felt so bad when I came in from walking! I had a follow up Dr's visit today and told them I have NO energy to exercise! When looking over my fluid intake and total protein intake for the past few days, they just re confirmed what i knew that I was not hydrated enought and not taking in enough protein- which all adds up to low energy output. I walk around in the house (temperature controlled) for 5 mins every hour and that also helps the gas to move around and out! I think when I advance to puree, I will be able to walk outside since I will have sufficient calorie intake at the point. Good Luck to you, hope this helped!

How many hours in the hospital?

I had to be at the hospital at 5:45 am, was discharged at 1 someting. I could have gone home sooner, but I had to pee first. I was tolerating ice chips while I was in PACU, and when I finally did get up to pee, I was feeling just a little "yucky" so they had me lay back down for a little while (30 mins). The anesthesia make it alittle difficult for me to pee. And I got 2 doses of iv pain med and 1 dose of nausea med IV, all that made me go into la la land so that extended my stay a little. But i wanted to be comfortable on the way home Good Luck, hope this helps
  9. Thanks Cat, I actually went to dr and they told me to try Isopure. i stopped and got some, they are not too bad, "to me" it is a welcomed taste when diluted with water. Not overwhelmingly sweet at all and no milk base!! I actually have some Carnation IBF, I will try that also. Thanks for the input.

    Finally on the other side!

Congratulations!! I was banded on July 29 and the 1st couple days were pretty good, however, on Post op day #3 at night.... THe Horride gas pains that I read about hit me and i walked and walked and walked! Finally got comfy, took a shower but the gas did not pass until 4:30 the next morning! Otherwise no pain med since Saturday. Just came from post op dr appointment. & I am not getting enuff fluids or protein drinks, so that is my goal, Just tried Isopure becuz the miliky sweet ones are really starting to make me gag! Well I hope you have a smooth road ahead! Try using a heating pad against your upper chest area with the gas pains, that helps me alot. But just dont put them near ur incisions. Good Luck!
  11. I am using protein powder mixed with lactaid ff milk 8 oz. I FORCED myself to have it this morning. took 1.5 hrs to get it all down! I have a good liquid mtv- its cherry flavored and i gagged last night when i took my 2nd dose! I am just becoming so sensitive to all this sweet stuff! It is really makingme gag! And the last thiing I want to do is Puk! Today is Post Op day # 5, Last night again, I had gas pain that would not move down & out! Not until 7:30 this morning! And I did walk around last night trying to help it along its way. Could not finish my last protein drink last night, even the chix broth with unflavored pp is horrible! I am going to look for the protein shots, at least it will be small amounts. Although i do need the calcium provided by the milk. Who know's, like I said I am having a talk with my Dr. today at my follow up. Thanks for all the input fellow bandsters.

PA missed port at last fill

If u can feel water just sitting there at the top- doesnt that mean that u r too tight??? I'm just curious, I didn't think water should sit there like that.
  13. You should contact your dr's office, they should be able to give you some guidelines. We rec'd a book that tells us how much. Perhaps your nutritionist has an email address? Good Luck

    6 days Post Op

If u r lethargic u really should contact ur Dr's office, thats not a good sign. Diarrhea will dehydrate you especially if you r not getting in enuff liquids.

    Hiccups

I WISH i could burp or hiccup! Every time it seems that i am going to burp- nothing happens! lol I have my bf patting me on my back like i am a baby being burped! It actually helps to move whatever is n their around!
  18. ok well i can do 40 oz and i actually will get my protein in- yeah! but this is definitely a challenge! Going to Dr tomorrow for a follow and and we r going to have a talke about starting the puree a weee bit earlier! I will beg!! I am so sick of the sweet protein shakes!!
  19. I am adding everything up but i am so sick of the sweet protein shakes! It takes me almost 2 hrs just to have an 8 oz shake, becuz the taste is a turn off! now b4 I had the band i could tolerate the shakes without a problem. it is so true about ur tastebuds changing when u get the band.

    Couldn't feel better...

Congrats on ur success and thanks for the words of wisdom!! I am only on post op day #4 BUT I am sooooo sick of the sweet protein shakes! I would like to know what veggies you are eating and how you are preparing them.. Since you have not had any stuck episodes then you r doing it all right. Thanks and wish you continued success.

    anesthesia fear

I was the EXACT same way! I have never been hospitalized for anything! So anesthesia was my fear too. Well let me tell u, they are some sneaky rascals! (In a good way) He pulled up 2 syringes before they wheeled me to the o.r. Well he was in the back of the stretcher and he looped my iv behind me. He gave me something because I was trying to follow the ceiling to the o.r.- pointless! lol i remember several people standing around in the o.r. and I felt them strapping my feet together and my arms down. he put a mask on my face and told me to take some deep breaths, i told him the mask was not tight on my nose. He said its ok just take some breaths, well i took @ breaths and Out like a light! LOL I woke up in PACU! Wasnt even sure i had the surger , until I asked the PACU RN and she said everything went fine. I ws very pleased with the whole experience. You will be fine.

    Post Op Day #2

I was having a great post op recovery (Banded on Friday July 2), until this left shoulder pain started a few hours ago! I am going to walk a little more to move it around. I dont know how you all get your liquid intake in! I set my alarm for every 15 mins and would take a sip. Then I just feel full and dont want anything! TOday i had 72 oz and i cant tolerate anything! I am going to have a popsicle to get a couple more oz in. Good Luck to you all! & me2!
  24. U said that u take "motrin" ???? From my understanding that is not allowed anymore. You should check with your Dr about taking motrin. I was banded on July 29, and I REALLY understand what you mean about left shoulder pain. It just started a few hours ago. I am going to take my 5 min walk around the house and put my heating pad on my shoulder. Good Luck to you all!!
  25. Wow It is good that u listened to your body and called the Dr/ ER. Were u taking any type of diuretic to make ur body loose so much fluid?? I am 1 day post of and trying to do this 1 oz every 15 mins! That is hard!! So far I have had 36 oz today! I just set my timer to go off every 15 mins so I can at least get a little closer to my goal! Wish me luck!
