  3. So I am now down a full 43 lbs from my top weight! The scale is now at 207 and I really hope to be in Onederland sometime soon! Would like to make it by New Year's - what a great celebration that would be!

    How long for recovery?

I have a job where if I am not traveling across the country, I am mostly sitting at my desk or walking around the office, so nothing really strenuous. I took 5 weeks off of work (I worked from home starting at week 4). The first two weeks for me were grueling but I think I had a tougher time than most. I couldn't hardly even walk since I had no energy at all. By day 14 I kind of felt human again but in no way could I have gone back to work. If I didn't have to drive so far to work (140 miles each day round trip) I could have probably gone back after 4 weeks. But I have heard of others who were back after 1 or 2 weeks. Not sure at all how in the heck they were able to do that but clearly they healed much better than I did.
  5. Your new tummy is still quite swollen at only 15 days. I had lost 21 lbs by day 11 and could only take in very small amounts of food, maybe 1/4 cup at a time. You really have to take tiny bites and chew them to death and then wait in between bites to make sure it goes down ok and settles well. My surgeon said that the pain in your chest is actually esophogeal spasms that occur. This can happen if you eat even one bite too much. Your insides are healing and it definitely does get better. I'm almost 9 weeks out now and it is much easier to eat now. I can consume about 1 cup of food and I am very satisfied and full. You will learn to be careful about taking in too much food because it will hurt and does take 20-30 minutes to subside as the food begins to digest. Just take it easy with your new stomach and I promise it really does get better :-)

    Calcium Citrate

I take Viactiv 3 times a day with breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love the caramel ones - kind of like my little dessert after meals.
  9. That's not too far from the truth. . .LOL! The last time we met there was 5 of us and the whole bill came to $15!!! I felt so sorry for the server since we occupied the table for 4 hours that I gave him a $10 tip!! Too funny!

    cant sleep well

I used to wake up to my alarm clock every morning at 6am. Since I had the surgery, I am up really early. For weeks it was 3:15am, like clockwork. Now I seem to be able to get through the night until about 4:15am. And then I am wide awake and raring to go. I go to sleep anywhere between 9-10pm. I totally crash at night and then am wide awake really early in the morning. The problem for me to get so tired in the evening is that I have to drive almost 70 miles home in Los Angeles traffic - so that is sometime 2 or 2 1/2 hours on the road and I am getting so tired. I'm thinking about hitting the gym out by work before I hit the road to see if that wakes me up a little so that I can make the drive.
  11. I will definitely be there and I look forward to seeing everyone!!!

    Ladies PMS question

I don't know about the BC pills since I am way beyond that. . .LOL! But my surgeon said no Motrin. I have to deal with my pain with Extra Strength Tylenol. I am just 8 weeks out so maybe that will change as time goes on.

Hi there! I was put on mushies on Day 11 after my surgery and it was a welcome relief. I could eat things that were really soft and mushy and didn't really require much in the way of chewing. . .like refried Beans, soft scrambled egg, Peanut Butter, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. I went home from the hospital (after 3 days) on pureed foods so was only on Clear Liquids just in the hospital. So I was pureeing lots of Soups etc just to get some decent tastes going. It gets so much easier as time goes on. Alot of people told me that but when I was in my first two weeks I thought I would never make it through! But I promise, it really does get better. The most important thing now is to get your liquids in and maybe use some non-flavored Protein powder with everything that you consume to get in the extra protein. One of my favorites now is the Kellogg's K2O drink mix that has 5 grams of protein. I drink 2 of those every day so that takes care of part of my Water intake and also 10 grams of protein. What was the date of your surgery and what diet plan do they have you on? (it seems like every surgeon is a little different with the diet plans)

    Multi vitamin suggestions?

I just recently tried the Alternavites because I was doing the One a Day gummies but they didn't have Iron and some of the other nutrients that we need in them. I can't do the chewables because they make me gag terribly. The Alternatives are a crystal powder that you just put on your tongue and it dissolves and it has all of the Vitamins etc that my surgeon said we need. I guess from what their website says (www.alternavites.com) that this gal was from a family of Vitamin manufacturers but the problem was that she couldn't swallow big pills and couldn't chew the vitamins either so she invented Alternatives. When they sent me samples, they gave me a code to get 10% off of my order so I guess I can share that here. She said just use the code FS10. The only downside is that you can't put it all on your tongue at once so you have to put a little bit at a time which takes a couple of minutes. But for me it's worth it because I was worried that I wasn't getting all of the right nutrients with just the One A Day gummies (even though they were really easy to take!). You can request samples at the Alternatives website. That's what I did.

    Arm flab - UGH!

I can't believe how bad my arm flab is!!! Yikes! In all the times I have lost weight in the past this has never happened. Maybe I'm older, and losing faster than in the past but yikes! Has anyone had success with particular exercises?

Can you Eat These Foods Eventually?

I am just 8 weeks out (on Monday) and can already eat salad stuff (not a lot) and the other day had a handful of red grapes that did fine. Have done strawberries and blueberries with yogurt and those did fine as well. The only tortillas I have had are corn tortillas in a cheese enchilada and it worked well. I am hoping that rice will work at some point down the line because I cannot imagine going the rest of my life with no sushi rolls. . .LOL!
  18. Congratulations!!! I was sleeved 20 days after you and hope that I will hit my 50 lb mark soon :-) 8 more lbs to go! You are a great inspiration!

    Sleeved two days ago!

I had an awful time for the first 13 days after the surgery - and I really mean AWFUL! But Day 14 I woke up and it was like a whole different world! My friend who had her surgery exactly a month before me (Sleeve4Me) kept saying that I would wake up on Day 14 and feel different and that is exactly what happened. I had turned the corner and am now SO happy that I had it done! Monday will be 8 weeks for me and I am down 42 lbs from my starting weight the first day of orientation for Options at Kaiser. I could have never done this on my own so quickly and also knowing that this time, I will not gain it back. Eating does get easier and now I am trying new things to see what works for my body and what doesn't. It seems to be different for everyone. I still can only eat about 1/2 cup at a time, maybe a little more, but to get enough nutrition and calories in I eat what I can slowly and then wait an hour and finish the rest so that I can get maybe a cup full in. It does get better, I promise. Congratulations on being on the path to a new life now! You won't be sorry!

Are you looking specifically for someone that also had a plication? I'd be happy to help but I had a VSG. But feel free to ask questions :-)
  21. Don't worry about the stall - it will work itself out. I did the same thing at about 3 or 4 weeks out. Gained 3 lbs and the scale didn't move for almost two weeks. But now it has started to come off again and I have lost another 10 lbs in the past two - three weeks. it's weird but it works. I used to drink a ton of water and can't really stomach it anymore plan. So I mix in the Kellogg's K2o and it has another 5 grams of protein. I am not concerning myself too much with carbs etc, only my protein and my water and I seem to be doing fine.

    I actually did it

Hey Lisa! Congratulations on making your goal!!! I can't wait to get there too. Thanks for being an inspiration for the rest of us! Woohoooo!!!!!!!!
  23. So excited this morning! The scale said 209.5!!! Down 40.5 lbs now! Woohooo!!!!

    Carbs and chewable supplements

I just received my samples from www.alternavites.com today in the mail. I am currently taking gummies but they don't have all of the nutrients that we are supposed to have and I can't stand the chewable Vitamins - the chalky taste in my mouth gags me. These vitamins are crystals that you put on your tongue to dissolve. With the sample they sent me they sent a code for a 10% discount so here it is FS10. Sounds like a good alternative to chewable or "must swallow" vitamins. I'm going to try them next week when I get back into town.
