    Grazing

I am 2 1/2 weeks out and my doctor and the nutritionist have told me to get in a little bit every two hours which seems to be working for me. I guess I am still too early to think I can do actual "meals". It usually takes me 30 minutes to get down whatever I am eating but I have noticed in the past couple of days that time is shrinking. I remember the first egg I had earlier this week took me almost an hour to get down and now I can do it in 20-30 minutes - just small bites and waiting in between to make sure it is going down well. I find if I eat too fast and don't wait a bit in between bites, that I sometimes take one bite too many and I suffer for it. Good luck to everyone else on this journey! It's been a tough one for me but I know it will be worth it!
  2. Pumplkin: Thank you so much for your insight! I am starting to have better days now. Still not great but I can feel the difference each day. Last night I was even able to stand up long enough to make dinner for the hubby, which was a first (standing that long, not making dinner. . .LOL!) I just had to come to grips with the fact that everyone heals differently. I have always been a quick healer in the past so just assumed I would do it again. But of course, I didn't take into consideration that I am older now than I was for my past surgeries! Thanks again for your kind words! Keep up the good work! You are a great inspiration!
  3. I am feeling a little better today. I feel great when I am sitting or laying down but then when I try to get up and move around I am still quite weak. Just spoke to someone that was sleeved in the hospital the same day as me and she has been up and around for a week and walking a couple times a day. Guess it really is different for everyone!

You look fabulous!!! Keep up the good work!
  5. I feel a little better this morning. Doc had me eating ice cream yesterday!

  6. Just thinking of you. Saw your post and wanted to tell you to call your doc right away and have him prescribe an antacid that is strong enough to work for you. I know how bad the nausea thing is - and without being able to eat you'll end up like I did with them not even being able to get a blood pressure reading because it is so low. :-( Yesterday was my first day on carbs and sugar and ...

  7. Julia: Thank you so much for the outline of your journey. Certainly gives so many of us hope! Sleeveorbust: Your comments are correct! I don't want to scare anyone from having this very important surgery but for me, I just wish I would have known what "could" happen. And you are so right - it is difficult by doable!
  8. 1-4: I pretty much agree with Cherice - it's like awful motion sickness and you can't get off the boat. They tried every type of nausea meds while I was in the hospital and the only one that worked was one that was a pretty heavy duty steriod (can't remember what it was called) and the doc said he couldn't keep me on it for long because of what it was. When I stopped taking it I actually had withdrawals big time. Didn't know what was happening to me when I was waking up drenched in bed and shaking like crazy and freezing cold. Doc said it was withdrawals - wow! after only a few days but I guess it was pretty heavy duty as they were trying everything to help my nausea. Never threw up because there was nothing in there but had the dry heaves twice while in the hospital. Right now I am kind of keeping the nausea under control with meds. But when my stomach gets empty I get nauseous and have to sip something. First thing in the morning is the worst so I get up, drink some Protein drink and then go back to bed. Yesterday, Day 9, I had part of the day that I really felt good. I thought that was a good sign. If I can get just a little bit of time each day I know it will get better. It's definitely been the ride of my life!
  9. Try measuring your food and try just eating 2 oz. at a time. I sometimes try to keep it to 2 oz but certain things I seem to get in 4. But I measure everything because I am so scared of eating one bite too much.
  10. Irene - I agree that there should be more discussion here on the board of what to expect - coupled with the statements of those that have come out on the other side. I think I would have not freaked out so much if I had known what was going to happen. I still would have done the surgery, of course, because like everyone else, nothing else had worked. I hope to see more, maybe moderated discussion on all of this so that people can be prepared. I'm just so relieved to know that I am not the only one with major fatigue and weakness :-)
  11. Thanks so much everyone! I can't tell you how much the support of this board helps! Joey - Please don't let these kinds of posts discourage you. Just please go into the process knowing what to expect. That's where I thought I had done well but turns out I didn't read deep enough. Nina - we're going through this side by side - I know it will get better Sleeve4me - you KNOW I couldn't be getting through this without YOU :-) Love you! And everyone - thanks so much!! I think they should tell all of the VSG classes about this board! It's the best!
  12. myself why I thought this was a good idea! We have to take it just one day at a time. And pretty soon we will be one of those people who wake up every day and are so happy to be sleeved! We're just not there yet and are emotions are trying to take over. Be strong and know I am going through the same thing.

  13. I just read your post! Please don't let the scale rule your life! I know how hard all of this is - TRUST ME - and I can imagine how it would feel if the scale wasn't moving. But remember, this DOES work - there are hundreds of happy sleevers on this site. That's what I keep focusing on. I'm having a really hard time too. At least once a day I am having to remind my...

  14. Yes, I am taking Promethezine probably 3 times a day (can take it every 6 hours). I had chronic nausea before the surgery but mostly it hit in the morning like morning sickness and went away as soon as I ate. So I've also been taking Renitidine which is a PPI. I am going to really closely monitor my Water intake today and see how much I can get in. Sometimes its easier to drink the apple juice than the plain water. Which is weird for me because I was a water freak before the surgery and must have drank at least 100 oz a day.
  15. I am having the same problems. I am 5 days out and I can't seem to get much of anything in beyond a couple of very small bites. Every time I try to get anything down all I feel is rumbling and a feeling like it is going to come back up again. I don't think I have even gotten 20 oz of liquids in. I just feel so nauseous most of the time with the exception of right after I have taken a couple of small bites and then have to stop. Is this normal???

    Game. ON. (3 days post-op)

Congratulations! I was sleeved the day before you and suffered with crazy nausea as well - never knew it could get that bad - your description was accurate! But by Wednesday morning I felt pretty good. Just got home a few minutes ago. So glad to be on the other side now. . . Good luck with your progress!
  17. Just got home from the hospital. Monday and Tuesday were really bad because of the tremendous nausea that I was experiencing. Not much in the way of pain, just crazy unbelievable nausea. The doctor had told me that it could be bad because I do have chronic nausea anyway but I had no clue of how bad it could get. I just kept thinking that I just need to get to the next day :-) Wednesday morning (yesterday) I woke up feeling pretty good! So happy to be on the other side of the surgery! I know things will get better from here. . .

  18. My surgery is at 12:30pm tomorrow. I can't believe it's here already! Kind of nervous and kind of excited all at the same time. I've tried to really prepare myself for giving up food as I have known if for the past 57 years of my life :-) But I guess you can never be fully prepared for what it will really feel like to struggle at first to even get anything down. How were the first few days for all of you? I want to be prepared for the worst so that if it happens I am not surprised, and if it doesn't I am relieved. Maybe a little ridiculous but it works for me:biggrin0: Everyone has been such a tremendous help so thank you all!
  19. I'd love to keep in touch. You will be just almost 2 weeks ahead of me but we are starting out close in weight and close in age :-)

  20. Thanks everyone! And especially bchrist for the hopeful thoughts. I really do hope that I am expecting way worse than it will be :-) I'll check in with everyone as soon as I can get back on to a computer!
  21. Looks we are both being sleeved tomorrow! Good luck!

  22. PamelaAM

    In less than 24 hrs....

Me too!!! You are a couple of hours before me! Good luck with everything tomorrow! I know we will both do great!
  23. My date is tomorrow too. And just so you know, my surgeon, who is one of Kaiser's best, only has be on liquids today and actually told me to have a regular breakfast and then just to clear liquids the rest of the day and evening. So don't worry. But you should tell your doctor if you did not comply with his protocol.
  24. PamelaAM

    Almost there!!

Good luck to you on Monday! My surgery is at 12:30pm Pacific time. Wish it were earlier but that's ok. I just want to get it down and start the recovery. I'm going in expecting the worst for the first few days so that I am not shocked. . .LOL! It's been an interesting few weeks as I have been trying to mentally prepare myself that I should eat to live, not live to eat. What a novel concept, huh?

On to pureed foods, need recommendations.

I also would like to see some suggestions and ideas for pureed foods since my surgeon said that when I go home from the hospital I will be on pureed foods. Need some ideas everyone! Thanks :-)
