  1. I am right there with you. I lost 10 pounds the first week and was thrilled but that was the one and only week of significant weight loss I have had. I am now almost 15 weeks post sleeve and I have lost a grand total of 24 pounds.

Okay, since I have some energy back and only occasionally feel icky I am learning to accept this. But for those of you who think you are slow losers I thought I would share with you my astounding stats:

Sleeved almost 6 weeks ago and I have lost as of this morning: 10.5 pounds

    Ta-da....drop the confetti....flash the strob lights.....whoohoooooo

(Moment of pride and clarity: 36.5 total. I lost the rest pre-surgery just dieting in 4 months. Odd, huh.)

Sadly, I have been guessing. This was stopping by the center's office and off their official scales. I actually thought I was doing better.

3 to 4 ounce capacity. Eating 5 times a day.

Oh well. I figure things will eventually change and obviously I was never going to get skinny on my own. Thankfully, I only want to get down to moderately fat. My thyroid was checked about 18 months ago but they are going to check it again next week. They initially thought I was not counting my food right but then they saw everything is packaged. I mean, how can you mis-count a 3 ounce white fish fillet or a large egg? I am NOT a from scratch type of cook.

My honest instinct is that this surgery just happened to coincide with menopause for me. So I really think that's a piece of why my poor confused body doesn't know which direction to go. So my next step might be a year or two of hormone replacement. I know it's risky but using them temporarily to see if it helps with the weight loss --- well there are times when the risk of not doing thing is as risky as doing them as I have learned from this whole experience.

And I'm so glad that almost 40 pounds are gone forever. It does make a huge difference now that summer is here!

  3. I had the sleeve 5 weeks ago and everything is going better than I expected as far as healing and energy levels. However, I am very disappointed that I am not losing faster. Weight loss has been very erratic. I started at 221 and I lost 10 lbs the first week. I was thrilled but then did not lose anything for 2 weeks. The third week I lost 4 lbs and thought I had cleared the plateau but now the 5th week just ended and I didn't lose anything this week either. After 5 weeks I have lost 14 lbs, but in the last 3 weeks total it is only 4 lbs. Good, but certainly not the results I expected with a sleeve. What am I doing wrong? I am basically on a regular meal plan but eat significantly smaller amounts. Today for example I had a Protein Drink for Breakfast , 4 oz. jambalaya Soup for lunch, a few veggies and a couple cubes of cheese for snack and about 4 oz mixed stir-fry chicken and vegies for dinner. I will have a Protein drink or 1/2 c. cottage cheese before bed. Are these normal amounts of food for post sleeve? Yes, I am trying to get my Water in. No, I have not been exercising. I know this would help but it would have helped pre-sleeve and I didn't do it then either. Any ideas?

  4. I am 48 yo and was 221 before 2/24/11 sleeve. I had the sleeve done with a laproscopic procedure (not sure if they are all done laproscopically now but that is definitely the way to go). I decided I was bored and didn't have anything to do so I returned to work the following Monday afternoon, 2/28/11, 4 days post surgery. My tummy was a little sore but it would have been sore regardless of whether I was sitting on my couch or sitting on my office chair. I spent most of 2 days post surgery napping and then I was ready to go. I didn't have to do any heavy lifting but after 2 weeks of limiting my lifting to 20 lbs I felt fine carrying a heavy bag of dog food or a load of laundry. I'm not suggesting that you should do it, but I am a single and didn't really have anyone around to carry my dog food. I think if you have the emotional strength to have the surgery you have the strength to figure how to do whatever else you need to do to support it.
