    gas in chest

I am close to 5 weeks out of surgery. I can honestly say I have not yet experienced actual physical hunger. I have "head" hunger, when I see something I want or in the liquid diet phase, but at the 1st week out I realized it wasnt true hunger at all. When you are seeming to have this hunger, evaluate it, Are you actually hungry or are you just sick of chicken broth. Get moving, occupy yourself, divert your attention, if the hunger goes away then you will learn how to manage it, if it doesnt then have some jello or whatever is in you phase of the post op diet. I also noticed that alot of times when I feel this liquids satisfy and are very refreshing for me. especially crystal light Iced tea flavor.

    Warning to new sleeves

I have been listening to my doctor and am almost 5 weeks out, but more importantly I have learned to listen to my body. I eat fast and have always eaten fast. The last two weeks since I have been introducing solids back into my diet I notice that different foods go down differently. Chicken and eggs, for me, is 2 to 3 small bites, but I can take 6 small bites of pasta. Sometimes I eat so fast that I dont realize I am full until I am vomiting. So learning what this new full feeling actually feels like is different for me. I take it slow, very small bites chewed well and one swallow at a time. Then when I feel the density in my stomach I quit, I probably could eat a few more bites but I hate to vomit. Listen to your body and you will do well.

How much was your self pay?

I had mine with Dr. David Treen and Dr. Todd Bellott down here in New Orleans. My entire surgery, hospital stay, 1yr post op and bliss insurance in case of complications was 13,658. I had a private room with excellent care and a very proactive doctor in treating nausea and vomiting. If you google david treen he has a video that dateline did on him and this type of surgery. shop around and you will find what you are looking for.
  5. I am in Nursing school.

  6. Is exhausted since returning to school and clinicals. Wishing this weight loss could be a faster process

  7. Do you have any tips on how to make it come off faster???

  8. I now it isn't good to weigh everyday, but I do. I am discouraged, I have been the same weight for 5 days now. I have lost about 15 lbs since my surgery, which was two weeks ago this tuesday. I lost it all in the first week and haven't dropped another single pound since. I am still on liquids and consume hardly anything. What is going on with me?
  9. Feeling good! Started mushies today, and everyone is right! Just because i could drink 6 oz of liquid it does not mean I could eat 6 oz of solids. A few bites and im full.

  10. Hey! I called the hospital and they said that the 33,000 in charges was billed before they gave me the discount that comes with a cash pay. I paid 9,000 to the hospital for their services, the account was updated on the 8th and I have a 0 balance. So it good.

  11. I was a cash pay my total surgery was 13,658. I was very sick in the hospital after surgery so I just assumed the extra charges were billed to the insurance that I had to purchase bc I was a private pay. I got a bill in the mail this afternoon for 33,000. 9,000 was deducted bc that is what I actually paid the hospital, the other 4,658 was the surgeon fee, ins and anesthesia, which I paid directly to them. The remainder of the balance is 24,124 and it says this is a bill. So my question is...... Do I have to submit this to the ins company and they pick it up...... or do I submit the ins info to the hospital? I am freaking out! There is no way I could pay 24k to this hospital. Does anyone have experience with this or know what I should do? please help....
  12. Nervous about this bill I received, but the good news is my scale is broken and I am down 19 pounds since my surgery two weeks ago.

    OMG help!

I am really thinking this is what the ins is for. These fees are all for complications that I had and 20k of it is sterile supplies, so I guess it was my fault that the nurses were not skilled enough to get an IV in me and it only took 12 trys. Not kidding either it took them 4 before surgery 6 when it infiltrated and two more when the 2nd Iv infiltrated...........

    OMG help!

no private ins. I did have to pay for an ins called blis which was supposed to cover any post surgery complications. That fee was compiled into what my surgery was though. The nurse coordinator said this..."here is your policy number for you blis." "You will use this if you have any complications after surgery just give the hopital this paper". so I didn't give it to them bc when I had the complications I was in the hospital for the surgery itself. So I am hoping I just have to bring them the form.
  15. feeling discouraged. I eat nothing and stay the same weight for 5 days. Ugh!

    Afraid I'm hungry

I am on my 9th day out of surgery and I have no physical hunger, however I do have mental hunger. I want to eat certain things I see and cant bc of the liquid diet. I really think once I am able to eat solid foods I wont crave so much. I am concerned that my sleeve isnt tight enough though. I have been eating creamed soups and am able to eat 8 oz of creamed soup in 30 mins. not sure if that is normal but its done now and I cant get my money back sooo. I only have about 2-3 meals a day bc that is when I think about eating, but other than that i am fine. I sometimes find that I am also letting myself have things I shouldnt have bc I am burned out with everything. Ex. I had broth for lunch and a 6 oz frozen coffee for dinner. glad to hear there are others with my same concerns.

    Pain when sipping......

Hi I was sleeved Tuesday and I have experienced a similar feeling. When I first swallow it is fine but a few seconds later i feel an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. No back pain though. My surgeon and his team of nurses are very proactive in follow up and they said a sure sign of a leak is left shoulder pain not just an ache, they said you will know if you have a leak. I think what you are experiencing is just stimulation of the stomach as the food/liquid glides into it. You have to think we just had a major surgery it is laproscopic , but they have removed 85% of you stomach and sealed the remaining portion off, so it hurts. I can relate it to my c-sections in a sense. At a week out my scar looked pretty good but to touch it was very tender. Give it time and if your dr. is anything like mine no question is a stupid question.
  20. I had my sleeve done Dec. 28th 2010. The class I attended informed me to drink 1 oz every 15 mins. I am wondering if they say 1 oz because that is all the stomach can hold or is it the safest way????? I seem to beable to drink about 3oz at a time which leads me to question whether my sleeve is tight enough or not. I paid cash for my surgery and can not put out any more money. I am curious what others have experienced. I have not started any solids or even full liquids yet so I do not know what I will be able to tolerate but any info is appreciated.
  21. I am so sorry I didnt reply to your comment on dec 27th. I am new at trying to know where to go to find my comments lol. I am doing well. The first few days after surgery had lots of nausea and vomiting, but that has subsided. I am on clear liquids till monday then I can start full liquids on tuesday. Getting a little sick of having broth. lol Not having physical hunger. How have you been?

  22. Is finding getting enough protien in with the clear liquid diet the hardest to do.

    Need some post op info

Thanks for the info, I just got a little worried bc I have saved for a long time to have this procedure and I was thinking if my doc didn't do it tight enough I have no more money to have it revised to a tighter sleeve. When I got out of surgery he said that my new stomach was about the diameter of his thumb. Not sure of the exact size. I have just been worried about if I might be the one who doesn't succeed, but I keep telling myself that this is something I have control over and I will succeed.
