  1. Near the stall forums on the listings. please feel free to post if you are interested in regain topics
  2. I'm sort of a purist with deviled eggs...Yolk, yellow mustard, miracle whip (just a tiny bit to mix) and finely chopped ONIONS. gives it an awesome crunch. Sometimes I top with a finely crumbled bacon (think bacon bit sized). YUMMO
  3. Well, I PM'ed Alex just two short days ago asking him to consider a regain forum, and well, here we are! He asked me to start the first thread. So here goes... I am 27 months post op and have gained 20 lbs from my lowest. I have had a massive personal loss (stress eating) and took a night position that I LOVE (but snack all night) so 20 lbs and here I am. Plan: 1. Came back to bariatric pal and owned my gain. admitted to it and moved forward. 2. Seeing a new doc and nut next week. Changed insurance due to job change and have an incredible new clinic/doc/nut and getting established with them wednesday. 3. Started 5 day Pouch Test and trying to re-learn restriction. 4. Found the coordinator of the support group associated with my new doc. called the coordinator. announced myself. now they are expecting me, so I have to go and face it. 5. ordered Slim in 6 program from Beachbody since i have not exercised like I should in a LONG time so that's a pretty mellow start. 6. bought all sorts of proteins-new flavor shakes, Soups, Quest Cookies and Cream bars etc because variety will keep me going. So...there it is. My truth. I have gained. Yes, I have regained. But through the loss of my dad, my grief, a new career path I am in love with, and learning how to balance a night job with my eating I have also regained perspective. I regained some weight. Now I regain control. Then I regain my life.
  4. um, NO. no tacos. not until about 5 months post op. i followed the post op diet to a T and worked through each phase slowly to take advantage of the lack of appetite (and swelling) that really boosted my loss. Now I have to have hard shell only because soft get stuck. i have had a huge increase in my GERD since i had a gain and have a stricture. EGD and dilation scheduled for october...
  5. I'm in the same boat. Gained 20 lbs from my lowest and feel terrible. I am blaming it mostly on grief (stress eating) AND eating more calories in general since I started a night job and nosh all night. I am actually starting the 5 Day Pouch Test tomorrow (friday) and just waiting for my mail person to deliver (due today) a variety of Protein powders and bari Soups etc that I ordered from bariatriceating.com. I love that site, and this one really provides me a ton of support. I ordered some things from here too! everybody here is my major form of support, plus my immediate family, because really nobody in my family even knows I had surgery. Many friends and co-workers know, but it's not something I put out there because of a lot of general judgemental issues with family. So FB groups for ME aren't an option. Some things that have really helped me to TRY and get some control: 1. Call the doc and nut and get appointment- I changed jobs and insurance and lost my old doc so I haven't seen anybody in over a year. I see them both next Wednesday. 2. Find out about the support group associated with that surgeon and call the coordinator of it and at least let them know I'd be coming. They meet monthly and have a pretty big attendance. 3. Come back to this website, state my regain, state my issues, and ACCEPT it. No beating up myself. Just admitted and moved on. 4. Go back to bariatriceating.com and pick some new protein powders, soups etc and ordered them. Also went and got all of the pre-op and immediate post-op foods and wrote out a plan. Also picked up my fave Quest Cookies and Cream bars. Lastly, cruised the new food options from this site and trying some of those too. variety will keep me interested! 5. Just try in general to get my head back in the game by reading some of my old books, etc and watching a lot of youtube including episodes of Fat Doctor. The videos on youtube really helped me get my head ready in the first place. Wishing you luck. yes it CAN be done.
  6. switched from orals to Mirena about 18 months after my sleeve (due to age and extended length of time being on estrogen) and LOVE it. no weight gain that i can pinpoint directly (i have had about 18-20 lb regain but more related to stress eating and falling off my plan). also no more periods at all, which is expected with Mirena. No issues, i would recommend to anybody.
  7. THANK YOU everybody for your input! Alex has PM'ed me back and is going to get a forum started specific to regain. I think it will be invaluable for everyone here, because regain is a very real issue at some point. Even those freshly post op can gain knowledge from a regain forum, and learn what NOT to do long term! I appreciate your input.
  8. Not one thing. Could not have gone better. When I was still seeing my original surgeon I used to joke with him that I wished that I had at least become lactose intolerant or something, so I would have lost more!
  9. I just wanted to let everyone know that I've PM'ed Alex to see about starting a 'regain' forum since that IS a real problem down the road for many people. if you might be interested, please PM with your support as well! Thanks
  10. A week from now i'll see my new surgeon and get restarted on my journey. I am excited to see what he has to say and see the nut as well, and hopefully i'll be back on track in no time. also ordered Slim in 6 today from Beachbody because i haven't exercised in quite some time and i can do this at home. Got all my Soups etc ordered from bariatriceating.com,
  11. i actually bought the book for the 5 Day Pouch Test and it's pretty good. i haven't REALLY done it yet, did just 2 days but it was pretty good. i too need to get back on track. i have gained about 20 lbs in the past several months and need to get re-focused too. i'm also seeing a new doc and nut in 12 days which i think will help.
  12. Quest Cookies and cream. HANDS DOWN. love the pumpkin one too, but it's sold seasonally for me (thanks previous poster for the reminders!). i have to get to GNC tomorrow and stock up
  13. yes it does slow eventually...i had the dreaded week 3 stall and then lost nicely until about month 9. at that point i really started slipping with my exercise and eating. i managed to hold my weight loss steady until about 20 months out and then have slowly gained about 20 lbs in the past 4-5 months. looking back though, it was ALL my choices that resulted in the gain. keep moving, keep focused on your eating and attend a support group for the long haul and you'll do great
  14. i too wish it would pick up a bit. i have been away for several months but have gained 20 lbs and seeing a new surgeon in 12 days (changed insurance and can't see the old one). i'm really looking forward to 'starting over' and really getting back in the groove of being a bari patient. i TRIED to be a normal regular person and well...20 lbs. wish me luck
  15. i too say stick to the low carb/paleo type way of eating post op and avoid sugar. i did NOT do this...i started slowly eating more and more sugar (because i wanted to believe that i COULD eat all things after my surgery), and now i'm on a downward spiral but seeing a new doctor and working hard to get off the 20 lbs that crept back on.
  16. I'm so glad you have all found this useful! I just found it incredibly useful and full of so much info. Like I said, it's still a learning curve for me 2 years out, and now that i've seemingly 'forgot' how to eat, I have used this reference myself. it's a shame though, that it seems like after early 2014 there were no more new episodes. BOO...
  17. would this be like a plication? i've heard that those have much less success rate and greater risks than a straight sleeve- but i'm not sure if this is the same??
  18. would I do it again? IN A HOT DAMn MINUTE. No vomiting here either. EVER. a little dumping, but all related to eating things i really shouldn't be eating. able to eat ALL foods without problems. Dumping when eating ice cream or heavy "RICH" foods. i had zero control over my life. Now i make decisions based on my happiness, not on my physical abilities. i left a job i was really unhappy in (but stayed because i was expert level and i didn't have to do a whole lot to keep learning, AND i didn't have to do a ton of physical movement). went to a job that i LOVE and am moving and learning more daily! i took control of my own future. yes, i have gained a few pounds back, but i recognize it, i am seeing new doc and nut and i'm taking control of the situation.
  19. As a vet, I had a LOT of questions pre-op and looking back I posted some really long questions. Now that I'm over 2 years post op, I find that there is one reference I still find myself going to. On YouTube there is an awesome show from the UK called Fat Doctor. This is REAL stuff. Shows a lot of the surgeries, lifestyle changes, etc. There used to be many more episodes but some were taken off the site. However, there are still a lot of great episodes. There are a few sleeve cases but mostly bypass. However, the struggles and the lifestyle changes are the same. I've gained some weight in the past months and working to get it back off. Of course, I naturally went back to Fat Doctor and watch it daily for inspiration! Good luck to all the newbies here.
  20. ok people, scale is moving!!! AND i worked last evening and was able to totally avoid soda and junk. DID eat a breadstick but also SF Jello, tea, cold coffee and lots of Water. feeling much better about myself after committing to get off soda and actually making it happen!
  21. i agree. 2 years out i could barely eat full cup of food and if it's the wrong food (crackers and dips, carbs etc) i can eat more than i can a piece of meat or eggs etc. at this point you have MASSIVE swelling and inflammation that will take months to go away. enjoy the great restriction you have from this and focus on knowing what to eat, etc. best of luck!!
  22. awesome. thank you both. both replies very helpful! for the past 48 hrs i have just focused on cutting out soda which has been generally easy. I work nights and go in tonight so that will be my true test! i have also tried to generally lean onto Proteins and cut most of the crap out. so far, so good. i have an appointment in 3 weeks with the new bariatric clinic (changed insurance and old doc/clinic doesn't accept new one).
  23. ok, step 2 done. Called and made appointment with the new doctor and nut. same day so I will see one then the other, and formulate a plan!!! feeling awesome and in control.
  24. Hi Vets- well, to make a long story very short, at 24 months post op i was within about 10 lbs of goal and then had tragic loss. Gained 20 lbs. now have 30 total to lose, but really would be happy to just get these 20 off. Made it to the Y yesterday to make appt with trainer to get some sort of regimen for exercise. Called a new bariatric clinic for appt with Doc and Nut. My question for those who gained several years out and then lost it- HOW did you re-lose? did you start over (as the 5 day pouch reset suggests) with Day 1 post op type eating? Did you go back to reincorporating shakes? Was it portion measurement, carb restriction?????? Just curious mostly. I have appt to see a new doc and nut and will also be curious to see what they tell me!
  25. well, day one done and gone and already the scale is moving. went to the Y, having a formal session with trainer later this week. but just the fact that i went is something. played basketball with my daughter just to get some movement. feeling good today. start of a new school year so a bit of routine upset but that may be a good thing!
