    Sleeve question

i agree. 2 years out i could barely eat full cup of food and if it's the wrong food (crackers and dips, carbs etc) i can eat more than i can a piece of meat or eggs etc. at this point you have MASSIVE swelling and inflammation that will take months to go away. enjoy the great restriction you have from this and focus on knowing what to eat, etc. best of luck!!
  2. awesome. thank you both. both replies very helpful! for the past 48 hrs i have just focused on cutting out soda which has been generally easy. I work nights and go in tonight so that will be my true test! i have also tried to generally lean onto Proteins and cut most of the crap out. so far, so good. i have an appointment in 3 weeks with the new bariatric clinic (changed insurance and old doc/clinic doesn't accept new one).

    TRULY NEED SERIOUS HELP

well, day one done and gone and already the scale is moving. went to the Y, having a formal session with trainer later this week. but just the fact that i went is something. played basketball with my daughter just to get some movement. feeling good today. start of a new school year so a bit of routine upset but that may be a good thing!
  5. just continue what you're doing. your system is reeling right about now. AND you likely aren't eating ruffage or veg at this point. it's pretty normal. i did the clear fiber powder and mixed it in everything i drank. TMI: my innards didn't work complete normally for about 4 months post op when i finally started eating most foods again! plus i was taking some supplemental Iron which did me in too!!! if this continues just talk to your bari doc. they have heard it before!

    Hair loss

I SECOND THE NIOXIN SUGGESTION!!!! i had surgery two years ago. i started Nioxin about a week prior to surgery and continued it for about 6 months post. i had SOME loss but it could have been worst. my hair is naturally fine and curly so i couldn't afford to lose too much! also continue with Biotin, and ask your doctor about your labs. many times your lab values can reflect some other deficiency that can account for faster than normal hair loss. this DOES stop and reverse. your body has undergone a massive traumatic injury to it's metabolic system and hair loss is very normal.

    Really Regretting it.

you have to give it time. a LOT of time. at this point you should be resting a lot, SIPPING Protein shots and Water and totally taking it easy. although your surgeon may differ, at 4 days post op there was no real eating for me, just sipping protein shots, water, room temp sugar free Jello (1 tsp every few hours), and broths. at 4 days post op, the anesthesia isn't even all out of your system yet (those of us in medicine know this can take MANY days to completely clear, especially if your liver is sluggish). if you are having pain you should call your clinic. it sounds to me like you're trying to recover too quickly. take it easy!!!!!
  8. Well all, I WAS a success story. i lost almost all of my weight, was within 10 lbs of goal. Left a career path i wasn't happy in, started grad school, took an AWESOME job i loved. had to deal with some extra cals from working night shift. but overall it was all good. then this past spring I lost my dad. I had just taken a promotion and truly, he passed away SO fast (within a week of cancer diagnosis). i didn't really mourn. i jumped back into work. i found myself drinking pop after pop. eating EVERYTHING. Cookies all the time. rice krispy treats. cheesy breadsticks. pizza. ALL THE JUNK. totally bad. now i'm up 20 lbs from my lowest. i feel terrible. i have this huge spare tire. i am sluggish and run down. in addition, i have a probable ovarian cyst or dermoid that has to be dealt with, and i KNOW all this sugar and crap cannot be good for that. THANKFULLY, you are all here for me. i lost my old doc because of insurance change with the new job. i put off seeing a new doc and nut because frankly, i'm embarrassed to see the new one. but today, i'm going to the Y for an appt with the trainer. and tomorrow, yup, i'm calling for an appt with the new doc and nut. hopefully it will be within the next 2-3 weeks. i spent a lot of time reading threads, and went back to read my first 30-40 postings to realize WHAT my original drive was. i feel newly inspired. i am thankful. i hope that you will all provide me the awesome support you did when i was pre-op some 26-30 months ago. my promise to myself and to all of you for accountability is to post on these forums at least daily, and to start a food journal again, AND i'm going to check in with the support group of my new doc. definitely feeling inspired.

    TRULY NEED SERIOUS HELP

thank you for your kind words of support. i think the worst part is ME coming down on myself mentally. my husband says "just see the new doc. it's no big deal. start fresh, etc.". ME, on the other hand- i'm totally embarrassed to go and see a new doc because of the gain. However, i'm bringing myself to JUST GET OVER THAT and go see the man. i have to start somewhere. at least i didn't gain all my weight back, and i still DO have this wonderful sleeve that i can utilize to help with the work i have to now put in. again!
  11. I AM IN A SIMILAR BOAT!!! my reasons are different- I changed career paths, entered grad school, started working nights (can we all say EXTRA calories??), really slowed down my exercise, and then lost my dad. I have no true EXCUSES, just reasons that I can recognize for my lack of control. I am also looking just for insight and suggestions on how to get re-focused. i am going to a new doc and nut (had to leave my former clinic due to insurance change with new career) and actually stepping foot into the Y tomorrow to get a session with a trainer and develop an exercise routine. anyway, I am up 20 lbs from my lowest and feel terrible physically. all of a sudden my clothes don't fit, i feel sluggish, i am addicted to soda, and eating all the time. it will be a VERY hard road for me. but i will find it within my spirit to conquer this. again.
  12. I was WAAAYYY too invested in my past role. I lived that job, brought it home with me, sacrificed a LOT of family time for it, worried all the time about tasks that were waiting to be completed or that were unfinished on one of my many piles... I truly wish that immediately after my surgery I would have left the job. permanently. I chose to stay, and because it was so insanely busy, my daily exercise time got pushed aside relatively quickly and the stress overtook me and my weight loss almost stalled completely. I had opportunities at many nice daytime positions which I turned down and when i finally chose to leave, went to a night position which I really like, but overeating during the night has caused a few pounds of gain and now I'm fighting that. it will turn around soon when i go back to daytime, and i'll be back on track.

    Syntrax nectar Caribbean cooler

my favorite nectar is the fuzzy navel, and i add a couple drops of the kool aid drops to it for even better flavor.

    Soda

steer clear of soda, it's incredibly addictive and believe me, NOT worth it. i started drinking soda again about 18 months post op and now can't get away from it, AND i've gained 8-9 lbs in the process. seeing my new doc in a few weeks, and doing a 5 day pouch test to try and reset this whole thing, right now i'm struggling bad...
  15. Not a bad glitch, but because I have new insurance since my surgery, I had to switch to a different clinic and already have an appointment to see the surgeon there AND the NUT on the same day. This clinic has a superb reputation and I know many people who had successful surgery with this surgeon, so I'm happy I was able to see him. I loved my surgeon, but the NUT affiliated with him does not take my new insurance and the new place will give me unlimited NUT appts at no cost if I am their patient. I am waiting for a bunch of stuff they are mailing me, including some stuff from the NUT that is reset info! WHOOP! i'm happy to be refocused.

    Regret

please hang in there and give your doctor/bariatric nurse a call in the AM. I am 2 years post sleeve and never once had any vomiting related to my surgery, nor did i lose significant amounts of hair. Everybody is different, and you can get through this with the help of your doc and clinic staff. it's possible that you are significantly dehydrated AND your pouch is significantly inflamed right now, and that will take quite a while to go down, so in the meantime you need to find what works. At that point post op, I used Syndrax nectar Fuzzy Navel Protein mix in my Water with sugar free Orange Kool Aid drops for flavor and it was awesome. I literally had sips only every 10 minutes or so...

    need some help

i made an appointment to see a new surgeon and NUT (insurance change- old surgeon doesn't accept my new insurance), and I bought the 5 day pouch reset book on my kindle and i'm doing that. I have been dabbling with shakes and broth etc, but I found that the actual PLAN is what I need, so I read that and am ready to go. it's easy to backslide into old habits, my biggest one is eating slider foods, and eating too often, and i've taken up soda again, which is like crack to me. so now I have to detox off that, detox off carbs and simple sugars, and i'll be back on track. good for you for seeking help here. good luck!
  19. Just checking in, really trying to stay consistent on the forums here seems to help me stay accountable. I am 22 months post op and was doing great at my lowest (although still not my goal), then i gained 10 lbs during a SUPER stressful two semesters of grad school and starting a new job, and switching that job from days to nights, and just life in general. Because I haven't seen my surgeon in about 9 months and didn't have the option to see my usual nutrition clinician (new insurance doesn't cover their services), I took the steps today to make an appointment with my surgeon in June AND called for a NUT appointment with the bariatric clinic in a nearby town that my insurance covers. I had every intention of starting a 5 day pouch test too, but having just accepted a huge promotion in my new job, my coworkers are giving me a big giant potluck tomorrow night and even though I'll eat healthy, i didn't want to stand there with a shake and turn my nose up at their efforts. So, 5 day pouch reset starting sunday night... I would love any input as far as pouch test success, getting back on track, etc. I currently have 10 lbs to get back to my lowest, and about 25 to my goal!! I CAN DO THIS.

    Plantar Fasciitis

I have dealt with it for over 5 years now, chronically in both feet. I have been to multiple orthopedic surgeons, foot clinics, etc. I have been told that Super Feet insoles are the very best, but are expensive. I wear Vionic shoes, which were developed specifically for PF feet. I used to always wear my Berkenstocks in the house which definitely helped but they are worn down to the corks and I have to get a new pair ASAP. i do non-stop stretches and the tennis ball. As a nurse, I don't want to rely on medications long term and with the sleeve can't really take anti-inflammatories except for VERY occasional, short bursts of Indocin. I also a Medrol dose pack periodically to give me a mild steroid effect without cortisone-which most people don't realize has a lifetime max dosage attached to it so that option runs out soon; PLUS it can wear down your joints from the high coritsol levels in the body... For ME, i notice that mine flares the worst when i gain weight, so the 8 lbs I've gained in the past 4 months is not helping. starting a 5 day pouch reset tomorrow night which will hopefully help too.
  21. I am 22 months post op and gained 8 lbs from my lowest. I was still about 15 lbs from my optimal weight, so I have a ways to go. I am prepared to do a reset and get back on track but not sure exactly where to start. I was thinking I would do my pre-op diet but was told by somebody that doing the post op diet in order from the hospital until 3-4 months post is better???? I bought my unjury, eggs, broth, and various forms of Protein, now I just need some direction. I have not seen my nut in over a year, and don't have that option. I switched nursing jobs and the hospital I work at has insurance that isn't accepted by the healthcare system where I had surgery (Nut appt would be almost $400 out of pocket!). The new hospital has a bariatric clinic about 70 minutes from my home and I have a call out to them to get in with their nut in a couple months. In the meantime, can vets give me some help?

    Regrets?

I regret not doing it sooner, and I regret not changing some of the external stress factors in my life that could have helped me to be even more successful post op. It is easy to fall into bad habits post op and easy to regain, it is even harder as time goes on. 22 months post op I have gained 8 lbs from my lowest weight and struggling to get back on track, but I am working hard.
  23. i am 21 months out and maintained my entire weight loss UNTIL i switched from days to nights at work and have gained 8 lbs. Holding steady but i feel like it could really get out of control quickly, so i started back-peddling and am doing a pre-op diet and then going to start my post op eating all over again in the same order i did it before, hopefully that will reset things.

    Rant: Obnoxious comments

i've got a mom who makes comments too. i know i looked bad prior to surgery. now 2 years post i've gained about 8 lbs from my optimal weight. i told my mom i'm going back to my pre-op bariatric diet for a week then going to do my immediate post op. me: I'm going to do this (above) because i've gained 8 lbs and for a bariatric patient that's like gaining about 40 her: i know, because you're so short you're starting to look awful again.. me; no, it's NOT about my size or height, it's about in my head, ANY gain has got to be dealt with before it gets too far gone. her: oh, i thought this was all about how you LOOK seriously...

What Are Your Fast Food Faves?

Wendys chili- small with added onions and hot sauce McDonalds grilled chicken ranch snack wrap, I basically peel 80% of the tortilla away and use just enough to hold the dang thing up and eat it Taco Bell, hard shell taco, lay it on it's side and break off one side of the shell, again just use the one side to hold it up pizza- any THIN crust pizza with ham, mushroom, onion (1 slice or 2 squares, depending on size) Long John Silver- baked fish meal with corn or green Beans (eat about 1/3 of it, take the rest home) local soup/sandwich shop- small soup there are a lot of things that i've eaten in the last year (answering to this thread makes me VERY conscious of them) that aren't good choices at all: 1/4 subway sandwich-most bun peeled off, but still; 1/2 bagel with cream cheese, chicken tenders; All of these are really bad choices for me. trying hard to get back to a good bariatric program
