  1. I think that melliemay was on here at one time. I don't follow too many youtubers, but i DO follow FAT DOCTOR! Love it. totally addictive. i have also been watching a few of the 5 day pouch reset videos recently too.
  2. So, I am dealing with regain. I have truly refocused and ready to get started again. Seeing a new surgeon this week (changed insurance=changed docs). I am really out of shape (again) but have ordered the Beachbody program Slim in 6 to just get me started and motivated. I have really gotten inspired in the past couple of weeks watching the American Ninja Warrior finals, and seeing a friend of mine compete in their first fitness/body building competition. I have the personality that if I have a SPECIFIC goal I stay motivated. I am not a runner at ALL anymore (sustained a leg injury a few years back and have multiple rods in my leg) so couch-to-runner programs aren't for me, nor do any sort of walking marathons, etc. interest me. I am looking for something that is going to give me a specific goal. Not sure what. Any suggestions from the fitness world people? THANKS!
  3. totally forbidden- Soda. yup, i admit it. obviously, VERY much a large component of my regain. sorry to see it go...

    What to eat now?

a favorite of mine is shrimp sprinkled with some jerk seasoning or some other spicy goodness and broiled for just a couple minutes. i'm not sure what your plan includes at this point, but if you are able to, it's pretty awesome!
  5. Wonderful comments everybody. Regain is a VERY real issue and not something that i EVER thought I would face. I was never one of those people that said "i'll never be that person...", but I knew that it would take a lot of work and somewhere in the past 6 months I lost that focus and drive it takes to remain on track. As I am done writing this, I am looking at social media postings of a gal that I work with who competed in a body building/fitness competition today and I feel newly inspired. next thread...exercise!
  6. Near the stall forums on the listings. please feel free to post if you are interested in regain topics
  7. Wonderful responses so far, and all very insightful. A great resource for all the regainers!
  8. Yes, it is up and running. It is under the GENERAL WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY forums, like I mentioned earlier. Just below the "Don't sweat the Stall Stuff" forum. Enjoy!

    Deviled egg ideas?

I'm sort of a purist with deviled eggs...Yolk, yellow mustard, miracle whip (just a tiny bit to mix) and finely chopped ONIONS. gives it an awesome crunch. Sometimes I top with a finely crumbled bacon (think bacon bit sized). YUMMO
  10. um, NO. no tacos. not until about 5 months post op. i followed the post op diet to a T and worked through each phase slowly to take advantage of the lack of appetite (and swelling) that really boosted my loss. Now I have to have hard shell only because soft get stuck. i have had a huge increase in my GERD since i had a gain and have a stricture. EGD and dilation scheduled for october...
  11. I'm in the same boat. Gained 20 lbs from my lowest and feel terrible. I am blaming it mostly on grief (stress eating) AND eating more calories in general since I started a night job and nosh all night. I am actually starting the 5 Day Pouch Test tomorrow (friday) and just waiting for my mail person to deliver (due today) a variety of Protein powders and bari Soups etc that I ordered from bariatriceating.com. I love that site, and this one really provides me a ton of support. I ordered some things from here too! everybody here is my major form of support, plus my immediate family, because really nobody in my family even knows I had surgery. Many friends and co-workers know, but it's not something I put out there because of a lot of general judgemental issues with family. So FB groups for ME aren't an option. Some things that have really helped me to TRY and get some control: 1. Call the doc and nut and get appointment- I changed jobs and insurance and lost my old doc so I haven't seen anybody in over a year. I see them both next Wednesday. 2. Find out about the support group associated with that surgeon and call the coordinator of it and at least let them know I'd be coming. They meet monthly and have a pretty big attendance. 3. Come back to this website, state my regain, state my issues, and ACCEPT it. No beating up myself. Just admitted and moved on. 4. Go back to bariatriceating.com and pick some new protein powders, soups etc and ordered them. Also went and got all of the pre-op and immediate post-op foods and wrote out a plan. Also picked up my fave Quest Cookies and Cream bars. Lastly, cruised the new food options from this site and trying some of those too. variety will keep me interested! 5. Just try in general to get my head back in the game by reading some of my old books, etc and watching a lot of youtube including episodes of Fat Doctor. The videos on youtube really helped me get my head ready in the first place. Wishing you luck. yes it CAN be done.
  12. switched from orals to Mirena about 18 months after my sleeve (due to age and extended length of time being on estrogen) and LOVE it. no weight gain that i can pinpoint directly (i have had about 18-20 lb regain but more related to stress eating and falling off my plan). also no more periods at all, which is expected with Mirena. No issues, i would recommend to anybody.
  13. THANK YOU everybody for your input! Alex has PM'ed me back and is going to get a forum started specific to regain. I think it will be invaluable for everyone here, because regain is a very real issue at some point. Even those freshly post op can gain knowledge from a regain forum, and learn what NOT to do long term! I appreciate your input.
  14. Not one thing. Could not have gone better. When I was still seeing my original surgeon I used to joke with him that I wished that I had at least become lactose intolerant or something, so I would have lost more!

    Pouch Reset

i actually bought the book for the 5 Day Pouch Test and it's pretty good. i haven't REALLY done it yet, did just 2 days but it was pretty good. i too need to get back on track. i have gained about 20 lbs in the past several months and need to get re-focused too. i'm also seeing a new doc and nut in 12 days which i think will help.
  16. Quest Cookies and cream. HANDS DOWN. love the pumpkin one too, but it's sold seasonally for me (thanks previous poster for the reminders!). i have to get to GNC tomorrow and stock up
  17. yes it does slow eventually...i had the dreaded week 3 stall and then lost nicely until about month 9. at that point i really started slipping with my exercise and eating. i managed to hold my weight loss steady until about 20 months out and then have slowly gained about 20 lbs in the past 4-5 months. looking back though, it was ALL my choices that resulted in the gain. keep moving, keep focused on your eating and attend a support group for the long haul and you'll do great

Wow. With the exit of so many vets...

i too wish it would pick up a bit. i have been away for several months but have gained 20 lbs and seeing a new surgeon in 12 days (changed insurance and can't see the old one). i'm really looking forward to 'starting over' and really getting back in the groove of being a bari patient. i TRIED to be a normal regular person and well...20 lbs. wish me luck

Overeating : Low Carb v. Moderation

i too say stick to the low carb/paleo type way of eating post op and avoid sugar. i did NOT do this...i started slowly eating more and more sugar (because i wanted to believe that i COULD eat all things after my surgery), and now i'm on a downward spiral but seeing a new doctor and working hard to get off the 20 lbs that crept back on.
  20. I'm so glad you have all found this useful! I just found it incredibly useful and full of so much info. Like I said, it's still a learning curve for me 2 years out, and now that i've seemingly 'forgot' how to eat, I have used this reference myself. it's a shame though, that it seems like after early 2014 there were no more new episodes. BOO...
  21. As a vet, I had a LOT of questions pre-op and looking back I posted some really long questions. Now that I'm over 2 years post op, I find that there is one reference I still find myself going to. On YouTube there is an awesome show from the UK called Fat Doctor. This is REAL stuff. Shows a lot of the surgeries, lifestyle changes, etc. There used to be many more episodes but some were taken off the site. However, there are still a lot of great episodes. There are a few sleeve cases but mostly bypass. However, the struggles and the lifestyle changes are the same. I've gained some weight in the past months and working to get it back off. Of course, I naturally went back to Fat Doctor and watch it daily for inspiration! Good luck to all the newbies here.
  22. would this be like a plication? i've heard that those have much less success rate and greater risks than a straight sleeve- but i'm not sure if this is the same??
  23. would I do it again? IN A HOT DAMn MINUTE. No vomiting here either. EVER. a little dumping, but all related to eating things i really shouldn't be eating. able to eat ALL foods without problems. Dumping when eating ice cream or heavy "RICH" foods. i had zero control over my life. Now i make decisions based on my happiness, not on my physical abilities. i left a job i was really unhappy in (but stayed because i was expert level and i didn't have to do a whole lot to keep learning, AND i didn't have to do a ton of physical movement). went to a job that i LOVE and am moving and learning more daily! i took control of my own future. yes, i have gained a few pounds back, but i recognize it, i am seeing new doc and nut and i'm taking control of the situation.
  24. Hi all, I have not been here in a while but have experienced some serious loss since I was here. I had sleeve about 26 months ago and did great, got my BMI down to about 28 and was feeling great. Left a career path I was not happy with. Entered a new professional path and graduate school. Was on track. Gained a little bit from overall stress of the change, but still had control. Then I lost my dad. He did after only a week of cancer diagnosis, and I started unraveling. Not making excuses, but I have gained about 20 lbs from my lowest. I have totally lost track. I found myself eating anything i wanted (even though i was really eating most foods without problems) and all of a sudden i'm gaining like crazy. i got totally addicted to soda again and am having a really hard time getting back off of it. I KNOW I need to see a nut and a doc. I lost my old doc because of insurance change. I know it is necessary to see them to get back on track. I have tried the 5 day pouch reset, but just seem to fizzle out after 24 hours. I'm also going to the Y tomorrow to get a session with a trainer to set up a formal exercise program. In the past I was just walking but I need something more focused. I don't really need to ask WHAT to do, i truly know. I just really need some support. my husband is awesome and totally understands, he lost both of his parents in the past 10 years also. I'm just wondering if anybody can offer me any little tips or suggestions on how to get going again until i see the doc and nut in about 4-5 weeks? I appreciate it!!!
