  1. I had my surgery on Sept. 22 and my first fill on Oct 26. I don't feel any different and am concerned I am over eating. I do get the chest pains and feel the need to burp which then relieves the pain. Sometimes I walk. I don't feel full when I am eating. Did you feel that way? Does the second fill go better?

I never actually feel "full" anymore. It's a weird, new sensation. I feel like i'm uncomfortable, but not full like i used to. It feels like the food is almost in my throat...its hard to explain.

You probably have more satiety after the first fill, but you won't feel a big difference until your 2nd or 3rd. I remember being disappointed after my first, wanting to feel more restriction and not getting it. This is the part that kinda sucks, you just have to stick with your diet and wait for the band to start helping more with each fill.

Something i enjoy doing, kinda odd but it lets me know my band is actually working. I don't eat before going to get a fill. I go in hungry, then after my fill i'm not anymore. I love it..it's like confirmation. lol.

  2. My port is flipped, but because of the position right now they are just accessing it from underneath. I had a few moments of stinging and a long visit because he had to xray where exactly the port was in order to do the fill, but other than a little soreness and a few small bruises the next day or two, nothing major.

Gosh I hope it doesn't cause problems down the road!

mine is flipped. i've had 3 fills with no problem, they don't foresee a need for fixing it surgically, dr said it's unlikely to move any more. Just hard to get to, kinda painful but i'll live. Still worth it!

  3. My parents are wonderful folks...loving, supportive.....

    but.

Today I got the 'I read this article from a lady who was going to have the (lapband) surgery and instead she just lost the weight...question. You know this discussion/ topic......I am sure most lap banders have heard it.....

Friends are fine, family...not so much. When I looked at banding 6 years ago it was the same discussion...

How do I combat (NOT the right word, but the only one I can think of) this mindset/train of talk?

Ultimately this is NOT their decision, it is MINE, that said I think we all want support from them.

(side note, this is my father and (step) mother who have been married 32 years, my other mom I haven't told nor do I plan on (none of her business).

    Hi

I've gotten this. I say that i've used other methods and gained the weight back, this is a tool that will help teach me correct eating habits that i can use for the rest of my life.

People who haven't struggled with weight...well, they have a hard time understanding the addiction those of us who do struggle have with food. The band gives motivation, restriction, and support. Overeating is just like any other addiction. Drug addicts get rehab, halfway houses; we get lap band! smile.gif

  4. breakfast - coffee. i use regular fat half & half, only 1 carb for 2tbsp

lunch 12-1pm - 3 slices tavern ham (i love this stuff) + 1-2 slice provolone cheese, maybe a few slices of pepperoni. other things i might have: tuna with regular mayo and onion and tiny tiny bit of relish (relish is very high carb); cheese stick + Protein shake; crockpot enchilada chicken leftovers (i make a huge pot and freeze it, then pull out as i want it.)

(coffee, again) this is my bridge when i want to munch but am not hungry.

dinner 430-5pm - 1 small ck breast or pork chop grilled, 1/2 cup veggies (usually broccoli or fresh green beans) <this is my go to dinner, never get tired of it. other things i might eat: zucchini crust pizza, low carb quesadilla, Tyson frozen grilled chicken chunks w/ salsa, hamburger/tofu burger patty, sauteed chicken breast w/ franks hot wing sauce (tastes JUST like hot wings, waaaay less fat and easier to eat).

if im hungry or don't eat much in the day i drink an Atkins Protein shake before bed., and i also drink 60+ oz of Water a day.

I've found my metabolism needs a reset. About every 1.5 weeks, i eat carbs for a day. nothing crazy, but maybe chicken nuggets for dinner, or a small carb side with lunch and dinner. Then of course i'm back on point the next day :o)

  5. My brother and sister in law do this to me. I'm open about my band, Facebook, all friends and family know. Most aren't afraid to say anything.

I think the previous posters are right, it's a sensitive subject for some. They might think that paying you compliment is saying that you used to look bad, and now you look good. I wouldn't read too much into it.

In the case of my in-laws, they're just JEALOUS! 001_tt2.gif

  6. Don't get down on yourself! YOU ARE DOING GREAT! Look at what you've lost girlie! Everyone loses at a different pace, don't beat yourself up cause you're not keeping up with those who drop it fast. You made a good decision, and you're being proactive! Be proud!

It sounds to me like it's not enough food, too. And don't drink so much? wth! I drink 60+ oz of Water a day.

Try nixing the yogurt and eating meat instead. Yogurt (even the sugar free) has a ton of carbs. My dr has me under 30g carbs per day, and when i slip and eat something carb-laden that i shouldn't, i see it. My body is very sensitive to them, and your might be too. Can't hurt to try!

Also, you haven't had a cycle since surgery, this is another factor that's probably messing with you. Female hormones...they get us every chance they get :) Week of my period i lose nothing, then week after i drop 3-4lb overnight. Have you considered that maybe you're starting menopause? That will most definitely affect your Water weight.

If you're doing everything right, and the scale goes up, just remember it's water weight. You're not going to gain weight if you're not eating too much or the wrong foods. It's...lol ghost weight! Playing with your head. I'd also suggest you back off the scale. once a month, once every two weeks at most.

i hth, don't lose faith. if you need someone to talk to you're welcome to contact me!

  7. I hit mine on the 3rd fill. You'll know when you get there and it sounds like you're not there yet.

I define Green zone by eating 2-3 meals per day, not hungry for 4-5 hours. In my green zone, I eat at 11am, then again around 5pm. I eat 1/2-1cup of meat and i'm full, then not hungry for an extended period. I'm not tempted by junk foods, and i'm not obsessing over eating and starving myself. What a blessing to have those thoughts out of my mind!

  8. How much Fluid is in his band? It sounds to me like he's not in the green zone yet and needs a more aggressive fill. If he's feeling good restriction at first, then it drops off, he's feeling the swelling that getting a fill causes.

The band is about restriction for some people (like me). I like it tight, because it is helping me control what i struggle with, portion size.

Also, make sure he's eating HEALTHY, high Protein foods. If he's eating junk (candy, chips etc) he's not going to feel satisfied or restricted. These foods can be eaten by most and don't give any restriction. If he's eating meat, eggs, veggies etc he should be feeling satisfied off 1/2-1 cup servings.

    hth!

  9. This just happened to me! Got a fill Friday, i think maybe i was just inside my green zone, but i like my band tighter because i'm still having issues with eating around it (don't hate, i'm working on it).

Mine is super tight in the mornings. Takes me forever to drink down my coffee and i wont eat before noon, at the earliest. But i'm ok with it. I feel good, i'm losing weight and my energy is fine. I aim to eat a late lunch/ early dinner, then a Protein Shake in the evening to get calories in. Never thought i'd be worried about eating ENOUGH!

I'd definitely wait it out...you might be irritated or suffering a little, but you're not overeating. if it becomes an issue call your doctor. Some don't like a tight band..

  10. I agree with the above posters, you do have the right to know what is in your band, and you shouldn't have to "earn" a fill. Ridiculous!

Does your doctor have you following a specific diet? Ex: i'm supposed to be doing no carb (<30g a day). I followed to a T, and lost 10lb in 3 weeks. I slacked off, and lost only 4lb over the following month. I'd recommend you try the super low carb method. It's amazing,

  11. Hey everyone --

I was banded wednesday and I don't feel hungry but I ate some soup/ like half a cup but I've been feeling nauseous all day and i cant seem to get rid of it and i want to burp but when i try my chest starts hurting and im worried. i feel sick and i barely ate...and i dont want to eat anymore and nothing helps. i tried gas-x for the gas and it was working, but since i ate the Soup im feeling upset. i don't want to throw up. HELP!

    i've eaten it since 12pm. it's 3:36 now

When I feel the need to burp, it's always stuck food. I think if you wait a while it'll pass, but be aware that you probably ate too much. Even if it's soup, make sure you chew EVERYTHING. Ask your doctor if you can do a fluoroscopy to get a picture of how your band works, and why/when things become stuck. HTH!

  12. Met the first weight loss goal I set for myself TODAY!! 43lbs down, met my lowest weight attained with diet and exercise alone. I almost cried when I saw the scale :o)

    NSV's:

Ran 30 minutes non stop yesterday

Yesterday, wore shorts that were too tight to button at the beginning of summer. They were LOOSE! OMFG!!

  13. I was SO worried about this pre banding. I;m a bored eater, and i'm frequently bored. I was worried about keeping myself busy without spending money.

At first it was really hard to get out of the habit. I'd occasionally snack on sunflower seeds - low carb and kept my hands and mouth busy :o) I still struggle inj party settings with the crap that is served. Prefer to hold them at my house so i can control the food. But overall, If i have an insane crazing i eat it,. but just a little compared to what i used to eat. Best trick is to keep it out of the house.

I now try to think of other things. I actively ask myself "are you hungry, or do you want to eat". And that's helpful. I find something to do everyday. I walk, garden, clean. Something, anything to be busy.

As far as transferring obsession...lol I've discovered word feud on my phone. Can't out it down :o)
