  1. What my doc told me was that using a straw would cause me to take in liquids too fast for the pouch.

    happy so far

Congratulations! I was only banded this month, and reading posts like this helps me feel hopeful about the coming months. Thank you for sharing

    Sweating

Thank you for your honesty. I also have been a sweaty person in the past; and yes, so far I have sweat a lot less. I used to take showers twice a day feeling really gross each time, and now I take a shower once a day and haven't felt like my clothes were sticking to me when I got in. I hope that you have the same experience!

1st Fill and out to dinner

Nice this is interesting to read! I've been feeling restriction even without a fill; as in today I went to a potluck and ate only a tiny amount of what was there and was just fine, so I'm not even sure if I'm going to get a fill or not. I guess my surgeon will be the one to determine that. Good job on your progress! That's great news
  5. I had staples first, and then when they took the staples out (after a week) they put steri strips on, and they lasted maybe three days before they fell off,and yes, they were way gross.
  6. OH my gosh, how scary! I'm so glad you got it fixed. I appreciate that you made this post though, because it helps us all learn what to look out for.

    Negativity Stinks

YES! I agree! I did a couple of years of research going into this, and I am so grateful for my surgeon. Reading some of the things on here that people's surgeons tell them to do floors me sometimes. In regards to negativity; I am really glad that people feel brave enough to come here and tell their 'tales of woe.' I think that otherwise they may not have a chance to hear a realistic or supportive answer. Back to surgeons not educating folks; I think it's imperative that most bariatric patients go to a support group after surgery (of course not everyone needs that, but most do in my opinion), and that there are so many surgeons who don't even suggest this; which is why I think we see a lot of people coming here to 'whine and complain.' I don't mind it that much thus far, but of course I haven't been on the forum that long, and I could see why it would become frustrating after a while. Check yes, you are totally inspiring that you've lost so much weight with no fills. That's amazing!

New research on how the band works

Wow! This is REALLY interesting, and it totally makes sense. Thank you for posting this!

    Whats on YOUR skinny list?!!?

I LOVE your list!!! I have wanted to play Roller Derby for a long time, that's definitely on my skinny list for sure. I love #3 the best on your list. That's awesome! Mine are: 1. Kayaking 2. Horseback riding 3. Running in any footrace, but my ultimate goal is to do a triathlon 4. Sit on the beach in a bikini 5. Mountain climbing; I'd love to climb a 14'er in Colorado. 6. Become a yoga instructor (another goal of mine is to write a book about modifying yoga poses so that people can do them at any size, since I started doing yoga when I weighed 80 pounds more than I do now). 7. Join a belly dance troupe 8. Ride mountain bikes 9. Swimming... all the time... yes! 10. Rock climbing (Can you tell I really like physical stuff?) 11. Be able to dance all night at the club There are a lot more too, but that's a good start I think.

    I'm constantly tired...

That is frustrating! I agree then that it might be your iron level. I have problems with iron, and I definitely had been eating enough of it, but I have problems absorbing it; so I've had to take an iron supplement for a few years because my iron was always low even though I thought it couldn't possibly be.

    I cheated a little...feel so bad.

My doctor only had me do clear liquids for one day, and then I could have full liquids after that. I'm on mushies now. I would say that tomato soup is probably not going to hurt you; so don't feel bad. Feeling bad is the worst thing you can do; just try to get back on the horse and follow doctor's orders after that. You're a strong person for having clear liquids for that long! WOW! I would have died I think. As for what is broth and what is not; no, tomato soup isn't broth. Vegetable, chicken, beef broth, or mushroom broth, those are broths; they're were it's just the Water and the flavoring basically.

Have you had your thyroid checked?

    very disapointed

This is a good story... this reminds me, when my stepdad told me a couple of years ago that I should get weight loss surgery I was in total denial, and chewed him out, and didn't speak to him for several days. I was so angry, how could he suggest such a horrible thing? Well, if you've seen my posts, you'll see how happy I am now that I went through with it. Thanks BaileyRose for posting this... it's so true that we're not ready until we're ready.

10 days post op, same weight...

It's so true. We're all different! My thoughts are, any weight that I have lost in these first few weeks is an added bonus, but it's not expected. Just keep doing what you're supposed to do. If anything, what happens in these first weeks is going to give your doctor a good idea of how to adjust your band at your first fill. Focus on your healing, and you are going to do awesome. Best of luck! Keep on keepin' on
  18. This is GREAT! I am happy for you. I'm holding out for that day... it will come!

    Post Op Sleeping

I had a hard time the first few days, but it was because I was too uncomfortable to sleep in the normal positions I liked to sleep in; I slept in the recliner for a few days, and then I was able to get back in bed; but I would take pain meds before going to sleep, which helped me. I haven't had any issues with insomnia though.

    My first Post-Op posting

Congratulations!!! I'm so excited for you. I was banded a little over 2 weeks ago. I'm in the honeymoon phase still for sure. Hope all continues to go well for you

    6 Week Follow Up

I am so glad you posted this! This is something I've been wondering about. I've been losing weight really quickly, and I feel a good amount of restriction and I stay full for a good 4 or 5 hours after I have my mushies; plus I started with 2ccs in the band... so I'm wondering if I will have to get a fill or not. It's good to know that you don't absolutely have to. I'll definitely have my doctor look at it, and decide; but maybe I won't have to get a fill this time. Of course, I still have another 3 and a half weeks to determine this, but this post gives me something to consider. Thanks! Also, congrats on your progress, it looks like you're doing really well, that rocks!

    chest pain.

When I had pains like that after surgery it was because I had to burp really bad, but my nerves were all wacko from being swollen and having surgery; so it felt really different than that urge normally would. Usually walking it out would help, or leaning over the counter and trying to burp (I learned that from someone on this forum). I'm so glad you're doing so well after surgery! That's awesome
  23. First of all, I'm glad you're here! We got banded in the same week, and I like having others here who are at the 'same stage' as I am to talk to. I like reading your posts. Also, I will echo what others say in that it's so important to read all of the different experiences because you can take a little piece from each one and learn. If someone posts and says, "Gee, I barf all the time, I think I'm eating too fast," what I can take from that is, when I move to solids, that I will be extra careful to eat slower and see if that works to help me not throw up. My point is, I can learn from those who do things right, and from those who do things wrong. What I love about this forum is that people can come on here and vent their frustrations, get help, and people can also come and share about their successes and how proud they are, and people will respond generally positively. I've been on a lot of forums, and I even moderate one; and this is one of the kindest forums I've ever seen. True, there are some who aren't so nice, but I think that the realistic good advice outweighs the bad. This is quickly becoming my favorite forum of all the ones I frequent. What would you like to see that would make the forum a better place for you to come to?
  24. When I first started doing the pre-op diet I was eating like 900 calories a day and I lost really fast, and then it stalled, and it's true when others say that sometimes you need to eat a little bit more to lose a little more. I went up to 1200 calories and started losing again. I have heard that sometimes when you eat very little your body thinks it's starving and will try to conserve the fat and energy stores that it has so you don't die, but if you up the calories a little more, it will be fine. Hope that helps!

    What sweetener are you using?

I personally like Splenda and Truvia. Truvia tastes a little 'herby' to me, so it's not my favorite, but I do use it. I like Splenda because it tastes good and is made from sugar. Sweet N Low is wretched. ew. I like to use Agave nectar in place of maple syrup and honey. Hope that helps!
