    PUREED

Oh no! What grossed you out? Did it not sit well on your new tummy? Or was it the taste or texture? Very interesting. I know since surgery my smeller is off. Unless someone is cooking with very STRONG spices I can't really smell food like before. With that said, I do still get hungry. But not starving. I think most of the time it is head hunger. In the few days after surgery I would get kind of get upset when my family would eat burgers and fries or pizza around me, but yesterday I took a friend around running her errands and she was hungry so I asked if she wanted me to stop and let her get something. We were passing a "Whataburger" and I said how about here? I asked did she want to eat inside or go thru the drive-thru? She said, "Wouldn't that bother you to go inside with me?" I told her no. We got inside she ordered and got her food and I was totally good! This was a shock to me because that is one of my favorite places to eat!! Even though we were dinning in I could barely smell the burgers and fries! Wow! I am simply amazed! I do crave old food but it's not from smells but commercials I see. Weird, huh? I have one more week on fluids and I go straight to soft foods. I have compiled a list of foods I can eat and have posted it on my fridge. I am very excited to have regular tasting food...so sick of all the sweet liquids. Especially the protein shakes!!
  2. I was told to stay away from any breads that were not TOASTED well for the very same reason mentioned above. I'm gonna miss it as I LOVE my bread. But I already came to terms with staying away from bread, rice, pasta, etc...because it's supposed to be hard on our sleeve to digest. Not to mention it doesn't fit in well with our eating plan. Just saying...

  4. Man...I sure am sorry you're having such trouble. I wouldn't do broccoli soup because broccoli produces a lot of gas. Try Gas-X as well. It has helped me. Can you do tomato, mushroom, cream of chicken soups? Take it easy and try to stay focused on why you did this. All the great things you will be able to accomplish because you had it done. Oh...if you're nauseous try sucking on a lemon wedge. Hope this passes for you soon!

    NSV that made me smile

    What an awesome story! Congrats!
  6. I would say pre-op. I think. As I think this is to be used as a tool to figure out what changes need to be made in order to to make the life changes needed to be successful.

    I accidentally swallowed my gum!

I wouldn't take it lightly as everywhere I have read says if you swallow gum it could create a blockage. Call your doctor ASAP!!

  12. Found this info online and thought I would pass it on. I myself do not have this info in my paperwork from surgeon. They may give it to me at my 2 week follow-up appointment this Thursday. Guidelines for Diet and Nutrition Your bariatric surgeon will provide you with instructions for a pre-op diet, post-op diet, and the gastric sleeve diet for weight loss and weight maintenance. The diet guidelines are designed to promote weight loss and provide the body with the nutrients it needs to function properly and remain healthy. The pre-op diet will help prepare your body for surgery and the post-op diet will help your body recover from surgery. During recovery your diet will slowly progress from liquids to soft foods to solid foods. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery before most patients are ready to start eating a regular, solid food diet. Specific diet plans will vary, but your meals will focus on low calorie, low sugar, and low fat foods. The following guidelines are general recommendations for gastric sleeve patients: Calories: 600 - 800 calories a day, during weight loss period (1 to 2 years) 1000 - 1200 calories a day after weight loss period, for weight maintenance (for life) Dietary energy (Protein, carbohydrates, and fat): Eat protein-rich foods - aim for 70 gm of protein per day; healthy protein sources include fish, chicken, turkey, soy, legumes, low-fat cheese, eggs Plan a low-carbohydrate diet - limit carbohydrates to 40 gm per day; the best sources are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes Choose low-fat foods and beverages - limit dietary fat to 30 gm per day; dietary fat sources limited to small amounts of margarine, olive oil, cooking spray, low-fat mayonnaise, low-fat salad dressing Eating habits: Eat five small, healthy meals each day Drink 6 - 8 cups of Water or other low-calorie liquids (less than 5-10 calories per serving) each day Do not: Skip meals Snack between meals Overeat Drink 30 minutes before or after a meal Eat high-calorie, high-fat, high-sugar foods Drink high-calorie, high-fat, high-sugar beverages Vitamins and supplements The gastric sleeve procedure rarely causes nutritional deficiencies as it does not involve any intestinal bypass, however, supplementation is recommended by most bariatric surgeons since the procedure is very restrictive. After surgery, gastric sleeve patients are usually advised to take a multi-Vitamin supplement, Calcium, and possibly vitamin B12 due to ensure proper nutrition.

    Burning pain from left incision

Yes, my left side incision is still giving me troubles too. It feels like there is a big stich going from it to under my spleen. I am fine for the most part, but when twisting or bending over it pulls pretty good. I also find the annoying pain if I am sitting down and slump over. Guess I shouldn't slump, huh. lol Maybe there is something to this Dallas connection! lol
  15. Oh girl...I am 9 days post-op and so know how you feel. The first 4-5 days were the worst for me as well with the gas. Are you on Pepcid or something like that? Also, my surgeon said I can use Gas-X as often as needed. Can you use that? I know it is so very hard to get the fluids in, but not getting them in even makes the gas worse. I was prescribed the Pepcid for the stomach acid. So please see if your surgeon can give you something if he hasn't already. Please know that in as little as a few days this will pass. Hang in there!
  16. I would give my first-born for some egg salad right now!!
  17. 9 days Post-Op and I'm feeling pretty good! Went to Whole Foods yesterday and eyed all the healthy things I'm going to eat in 12 days (mushie/soft stage). Yea!! I've never been so happy about mushie/soft food in my life! It's getting easier to prepare dinner for my family and not have "Food Envy." This surgery is doing more than making me healthy, It's also forcing better food and eating habits for my family. I spent time this morning going through my pantry and getting rid of all the "Fatty-fat" foods. It feels so good to be focused on the goal at hand and also changing the life of other too (my family). Anyway, I have lost a total of 18 lbs in a little over 3 weeks (2 wk pre-op diet -6 lbs and 9 days fluids -12 lbs). Yea sleeve!! Looking forward to the scale going lower and lower. However, I'm not looking forward to looking like a "Flying Squirrel!" Have a wonderful healthy day, guys!!
  18. Can'tweight

    The count down!!!!!!!!

Oh how I envy you, Weightbgone. A week and 4 days for me. I have never been so excited to have mushies!!
  19. They make a huge difference, don't they? Love'em!!
  20. This will pass...I had so much gas. But the nurse told me that other's said, while the Lortab did nothing for pain, it stopped sooo helped with the gas. Also, my doc has me on Pepsid twice a day.
  21. How far in to the REGULAR food stage will I be able to eat some chips and hot sauce? Please, don't tell me NEVER!! I love Mexican food and all the spices. I know I am a long way out from regular food, but my tongue waters daily for some salsa. If I can't have the chips will I be able to eat salsa on other things like chicken, etc...?
  22. I am having a hard time getting in all my Protein each day and wanted to know how many others have/are having the same issue. Thanks for playing!!
  23. Can'tweight

    Protein...how do you do it??

Personally, I'm in fluids for 2 more weeks, but when I move up to mushies/soft I believe Protein amount expected is still 60-80gms a day.
  24. Can'tweight

    WEIGHT LOSS

AMEN!! Don't over do it though.
  25. I am 6 days post-op and am getting very depressed. I started another thread about how much cream Soup we should be able to eat at one setting and I feel like I've done this surgery to myself for nothing!!! I crave everything all the time!! That was my problem before surgery as well. I LOVE food...I used to joke and say, "I'll eat anything that doesn't eat me first!" I'm NEVER satisfied. If I could burn my tastes buds off, I would!! I still feel the same. This is so depressing to realize that I'm always going to feel this way! I can probably eat 1 - 1 1/2 cups. That's a lot, right? That worries me!! I fight head hunger all the time with all the commercials and seeing others eating. I guess I'm not one of the lucky one's who has lost their hunger. That makes me real sad. Someone PLEASE tell me I can eat so much right now because I'm on full liquids and they're just running through my sleeve instead of hanging around to tell me I'm full sooner!!!
