  1. I too experienced the same thing with mashed potatoes. My doc said it is the starch swelling in your tummy that makes you sick. Happens to some and not to others. Still haven't tried them again since getting sick. It woke me at 4am with cramps and light headedness. And I felt like poo-poo, doo-doo, cock-a the entire day. I have no problems drinking. I do not have to sip any longer. I actually take about 3 small gulps. That is so awesome that you are now off your meds. What a blessing. Chin up, sister!! Shame on your husband for not being there for you. I will keep you in my prayers.

    Overeating

Well...honestly, I have had to make myself because I'm to uncomfortable and feel sick to my tummy. It is a different feeling then pre-sleeved for me. My hardest issue is eating a 1/2 - full cup over 20-30 minutes. I am a little under 4 weeks out. I have had to do this maybe 3-4 times. Hope this helps.

    How do you handle "Appetizers"?

Shoot! My hunger is already back at less than 4 weeks out! I was so hoping I would be in the lucky "not hungry anymore" group. Just having to measure and journal. I'm still having the "slowing it down to a snails pace" on eating problem. It's been very difficult!

    How do you handle "Appetizers"?

Off topic...Wow Greece!! My first grade teacher was from Greece. I soooo loved her and did anything to stay in from recess to help her with any and everything!! Thanks for the wonderful flashback! I am just now getting into real foods again and being from Texas, I love me some Mexican food and could literally live on Salsa!! chips are not such a big deal...it's the Salsa! Tomatoes are my favorite thing. I can just eat them like an apple. All these changes are so very difficult to adjust to, but with all of your help and insight, I will surely figure it all out! Thanks guys! keep the comments coming!! Off to a day at the Zoo. By the way...the Fort Worth Zoo is ranked in the top 5 in the nation. If you get the chance, it's a must see!
  5. I am 3 1/2 weeks out and I am able to consume more as most too. I am on soft foods now. My BIGGEST problem now is eating way too fast because I am hungry. I have gotten sick about 4 times and have had to relieve the pressure (if you know what I mean). I am very concerned about my lack of control over slowing down. I DO NOT want to over eat and stretch my new tummy out. I have also hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I am still consuming 500-700 calories and staying below 40gms Carbs, 30gms fat and getting in 50-60gms Protein. Water is not where it is supposed to be though. And I am not getting any exercise. Maybe that's my problem. Frustrated with myself beyond measure!!

    Burning pain from left incision

Me as well, skinnyagain. Very odd. Pain comes and goes. Think it's when we over do it or something. Also, I think I have hit the so called "3 week stall." haven't lost anymore in 3-4 days. How's it going on your end?
  7. Yes! I text my husband the other day and said, "I am now a VERY cheap date." I just had eggs and a piece of toast at Whataburger and it cost...wait for it....a big $1.07. However, my grocery bill has risen due to buying healthier food. What a shame! We are constantly bomb-barted with food ads EVERYWHERE and when we try to make healthier choices we have to pay more. Gotta love the American way!! (not)
  8. Man, am I ever having a hard time slowing down to a snails pace of eating. Yesterday, I threw up a little because I ate to fast and got too full. Today I did better, but just had dinner and it was only 10 minutes. The learning curve is extremely hard. Any words of wisdom??

    sipping 3 days out and...

I concur!! Only time will help. At only three days out I was question why I did this to myself, but this too shall pass. And sooner than later. Promise. I know it is a lot to endure, but you WILL find it is so worth it once the healing progresses. Just hang in there for a little while longer!

    Back pain

Maybe it is from the gas...it really gets into your muscles. My gas pain hurt so bad in my shoulders and neck. It will get better soon. Try massaging the area. If it is the gas it will help.

    Having a few bad days...

Oh, you poor thing! My heart just breaks for you. Putting down your dog (your baby) is one of the hardest things to go through. And with the surgery and now migranes? Well, I can't even imagine!! I hope this passes very quickly for you. So sorry about your baby.

    I messed up :(

Bummer Sara Ann. I tried mashed potatoes to soon and felt like poo-poo, doo-doo, cock-a!! We live and learn, sister! Hope it passes fast.
  13. Ok...this is strange! Since surgery it feels as though my sternum is more predominant. maybe it's just more shallow below it. Is it because they removed 3/4 of my stomach? Feels so weird!!

    Burning pain from left incision

Ya know, mine is indented as well. Not as bad as right after surgery but still noticeable. Dang doc messed up my Hollywood Figure!! I'm getting a lawyer!

    Burning pain from left incision

You can go to Babies-R-Us and get a tummy supporter. My nurse said they work real well too! It's basically the same thing.

    Bumps under incisions?

I think so Sara. I am three weeks out and still have a couple of pea size bumps on some of my incisions. I saw something on one of my incisions I thought was a dry piece of skin. Turns out it is a stitch and it doesn't want to let go! Looked at another incision and same thing. Just gonna leave them alone, because it must not have dissolved all the way inside yet. No worries, girl.

    Burning pain from left incision

I am now almost 3 weeks out and haven't had the burning pain for almost a week. However, there is still swelling there and when I sit too long, slump over, walk too long, etc..it gets tender. It has gotten a lot better! I don't think it's any different then what others go through. It is just the one that gets beat the most. I remember how easily worn out and quite sore I was at a week out. Are you wearing your binder? Mine did help a bunch. In a week you will so much better and then even better at 3 wks out. Promise!!
  18. Binder is a stretchy piece of fabric that you wrap around your waist to keep things from moving around so much in your abdominal area. It really helps, although, it makes my incisions itch like the Dickens!!

    How Many Calories?

I'm on the following throughout my weight-loss period per the doc: 600-800 Calories 60-70gms Protein 40gms Carbs 30gms Fat I am 2 1/2 wks out and am consuming closer to the 600 mark.

7 lbs gone in 6 days

Congrats, sister!! Doesn't it feel good to see the scale going in the opposite direction?? Praise God!!! I feel wonderful! What a difference a week makes!!

    :) Hey I lost a little weight.

Congrats to both of you!! I was a little surprised when I got home from the hospital and had put on 4 lbs. But I forgot about the swelling and fluids they were pushing in me. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and have lost 21 lbs since coming home from the hospital. Can I just say that I think I am finally figuring out this "when to stop eating" thing. Thanks everyone for all the knowledge and advice, and also your questions.

    Bagels

Has anyone eaten bagels after being sleeved? Just curious, cuz my diet says toasted bread and crackers are best.
  23. I pulled my paperwork out for the soft food stage the doc's office gave me. It says: Soft Solid Stage: (3-4ozs per meal) day 21-42 and at the bottom it says: Servings listed below are only estimates. You may be able to eat more or less! Guess I need more clarity on this statement. Breakfast: -1/2 cup total (4 oz) Egg or egg whites Toast OR 2% string cheese Natural applesauce Lunch: - 1/2 cup total (4 oz) Low fat deli turkey breast Green Beans Mashed sweet potatoes OR Canned tuna in Water 2 crackers Dinner: 1/2 cup total (4 oz) Baked fish Cooked carrots Green beans OR Lean ground beef/turkey patty (use caution) Canned peach half Thanks again guys for all your knowledge and advice!
  24. So is it more important for us to pay attention to portion size vs. calorie intake amounts at this point? I do feel like I consumed more than I should have even though I was not really over full. But I had already planned to log my food and measure it out as well. The fore mentioned meal was my first of this soft food phase, yesterday. So I think I am beginning to get the concept of eating until not hungry (tummy hungry), instead of eating until full. It is such a learning curve. But I'm in it to win it!! Eye on the prize, Violet! Eye on the prize! Which is a healthier, thinner me!! Thanks guys!! I would so be lost without you all!!

    when can I drive again

Ok cherrybell...I replied to this post already but thought you should know this. I am now 18 days post-op and had to do quite a bit of driving around town then 3 hrs to Georgetown and 3 hrs back. I probably spent a total of 8 hrs in the car today and I have to tell you I am quite a bit sore. Again, I am 18 days post-op. Granted I forgot my binder at home, but I thought about you when we got home 30 mins ago (at 3am) and I just wanted to let you know so it could give you a better idea of what it could be like for you...without pain meds...and 6 days post-op. I would not do it!!! Sorry...hope you can make some other kind of arrangements.
