  1. If i may ask, have you had any cosmetic surgery? Are CONGRATS!! you deserve it.

I had my surgery on 2/11/09. As of this morning, I've lost 157 pounds. I started at 300 pounds and this morning I weighed in at 143. I am 5'7". My surgeons office told me I hold their current record for most weight loss with their lap band patients. My BMI that started at like 46 to 48 is now 22.4, which is in the normal range btw. :) I used to wear a size 26W/28W or 3x/4x. I just bought a pair of extra small scrubs pants and a small shirt. I also just bought a pair of size 6 jeans. NEVER IN MY LIFE WOULD I HAVE THOUGHT I COULD HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THIS! YOU CAN DO THIS TOO! IF I CAN.... ANYONE CAN! This tool has been a miracle for me. I love my life.... although it's been a crazy two years. You really learn who your true friends are. I am a different person..... inside and out.

  2. Please make sure you ask your pharmacist about halfing or crushing meds. Some can not be at all. If you have a Dr already the best thing to do is talk to him. I have my surgery April 2th and the meds that was given to me are small enough that it wont do anything. My surgeon told me if i could to see if the meds could be bought in chewable or liquid form.

I understand about pain relievers. Are there any other pills a banded patient should avoid. I am asthmatic and was given a prs for steroids today. I would only need the steriods for 6 days if i take them. I have opted for an inhaler. Are steroids ok for banded patients. Is the only concern pain killers what about arthritic meds such as anti inflammatory. I am not a big pill person but I an concerned. I am scheduled for next week and I bought a pill crusher, the one used by pharmacist, for any pills I may need after being banded. Any input will help. I am sure I will have a few questions this weekend before my surgery on Wednesday. Thanks

  4. Check with your pharmacy, some medications can not be crushed or split..i just went through this last night at my pharmacy.

I haven't gotten my surgery date yet but it's looking like the end of May or beginning of June. However, I take a LOT of medication. By a lot I mean 11 different pills at night and 6 in the morning and that's not including the Vitamins. Some of the pills that I take are rather large. How is this going to work when I get banded? Am I going to have to crush all of them? Just the larger pills? Maybe just use my pill splitter on the large pills? What size pills will fit? Will I just have to crush/split them temporarily?

Anyone out there take a large amount of medication too and have any advice?
