Hi to all new or up coming Bandsters... i was banded on April 12th and i wanted to say Congrats to you and your new upcoming life. I been reading some of your posts and if you have any questions any of the long time bandsters will answer your questions. I did want to tell you that this was one of the easiest surgeries Ive ever had. The one thing i do want to tell you is: After your surgery, soon as you can, get outta that bed and move around(walk around in the house) that will help with the gas pain you will experience. But if you intend to lay in the bed, you will have alot more pain. I was up the next day after surgery and on the 4th day, I was at walmart..lol As far as the Protein, I get mine from Walmart, whey Protein,5 grams, low calories. CVS also has some,I cant remember the name but it has 25 or 26 grams, it come in a foil bag. My Dr told us to get no less than 60 grams a day so I drink the one from Walmart. Just make sure the calories are low. If you have any questions please ask. Being informed is better than being afarid of the unknown.. Congrats again and good luck....

Sweetpea, make sure you check with your Dr about going to a gym this early after surgery. I couldnt do anything but walk for 6 weeks. You dont want your band to slip.

you look so great!! i was banded on April 12th,2011.. If you could, would you share some of your do and donts ? Also what did you eat? Im still on soft food right now and im kinda running outta ideas..lol

LMAO!! i had mine done April 12th,2011. And be prepared, it doesnt go away. it might be good one day and the next sound like a bomb is going off. At our seminars the Vetrans talk about this alot. They just told us to get some gas-x or some other kind of antacid. But i dont think it really helps alot.

had my first fill on the 10th, i had no problems at all. i really expected it to be worse than it really was. Sorry you had problems.
-
I had my first fill today and it wasnt bad at all.He numbed it first then put in the saline. It was easier than i thought it would. You can do it !

Yep soon as you can get up outta bed..walk alot. The more you lay in the bed and dont move around, the more you hurt with the gas pains.

Donna i know all Drs are different but make sure you get you excerise cleared with your Dr. My surgery was April 12th,2011 and all I can do is walk right now. All they say is walk, and I am, 2 miles 2x a day. My first fill is May 11th so i hope I can go to regular food and let me do more excerise. Im planning on buying a gazelle next weekend.. I love working in the yard to.

If some of the people in here are on diet pill then why in the world did you even bother getting the Band? Diet pills are dangerous, even if your under a Dr care. They can cause your blood pressure to elevate to the point of stroke or heart attack. As some one said they mess your
metabolisum up something terrible. They can make you irritable, palpations, diet pills are a big money making thing , even if you buy them at a store,on the street, or a Dr office. Im in the medical field and work at a office where they have tons of weight loss patients. And about 20 yrs ago i was one of them. Its a good fix for the time you are on them but you ALWAYS regain the weight.. Sorry but i have nothing good to say about them..

Im sorry your still not feeling well. I too am 56 yr old and I had my surgery April 12,2011. And I feel great, i walk 1 mile twice a day and Im not tired at all.I think its the walking that Ive been doing. I do the Protein shakes and i take Vitamins. I now get to eat mushies and im so glad of that..I sure was getting tired of the liquids. Hope you get to felling better soon
-
2 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after... the 26th i get to start having mushies.

I had my surgery on April 12th and it was the easiest surgery ive ever had. I can tell you, after your surgery as soon as you feel like it get up and walk around in the house. It helps with all the gas pains your gonna have in you stomach and left shoulder. Gas-x and maalox helps alot to.lol It was so easy for me I was at wal-mart on my 4th day!! Best wishes on your new journey. BTW, i get my first fill on May 11th, wondering what thats gonna be like.

You honesty need to talk to your dr about any kind of exercise other than walking. I had mine done on the 12th of April and i cant do any thing except walk right now. They told me about 6 weeks out then i can.And it wont hurt you to sit on the floor either.

but i need to do some floor exercises for my arthritis...can I sit on the floor or will it hurt my band....in case the inside stiches have not healed..I am scared to try...

So my surgery date is April 15th and my husband is not as supportive as I would have expected him to be. Our marriage has been on the rocks for years now and came pretty close to an end back in January. I was just wondering how your relationships have changed with your significant others after the surgery. I'm not ultimately looking for just positive stories, just honest ones if possible. I'm all about being upbeat and positive but I just really want raw honesty positive and negative alike. Thanks for your time
~Pam
Hi Pam, I have planned to do some type of gastric surgery for the last couple years. And my boyfriend of 15 yrs didnt want me to have this done. So i put it off. Then just one day out of the blue I decided this was something i really wanted to do regardless of his support or not. I just felt like Im cheating myself out of something that is going to make "ME" feel better about myself. So i just came out and told him I was doing this no matter what anyone thinks. This was about me and no body else. So as of April 12th I am officially Banded. And he has been right there by my side. And yes our relationship has been some what rocky also but we're trying to work things out. I have just got to the point that I have taken care of some one all my life and now its time to take care of ME.. I think he feel that if i loose this weight I will leave him, lol. But I dont worry bout that stuff. Im not saying to leave your relationship if you dont want to, Im just say stand your ground. If you want to make this change then go for it!! Good Luck.

I had my surgery on April 12th.. The first 2 days i hurt but mostly from the gas. i think i took 4-5 pain pills ans 2 pills for nausea,i got sick from riding in the car home..NO overnight stays. My advise is to get outta bed and start walking. even if its in the house,it help with the gas pains. Its now the 16th,Ive been out shopping and doing my same ole every day routine, except for the lifting. I have my post-op visit on the 20th and hopefully i can have soft food then. If i see another Protein Shake after this liquid diet is over im gonna SCREAM!!!! lol. Best wishes to all of you. Lynne

I have been on my liquid diet since April 1st. It seem like the first 3 days were hard for me but im breezing right through it now. Surgery is April 12th. My diet consists of 2-3 Protein Shakes. sugar free Jello, pudding, some cream soup(nothing chunky) and sugar free popsicles. Some of you are luck, you still get to eat whole foods, but the good thing about this diet, after surgery the liquid diet you will be on then, wont be so hard. Best wishes to all the April Bansters!!
Can I start excersizing?

Im an April,2011 bandster, My Dr told me no excersicing other than walking for 6 weeks. You dont want to do anything to cause that band to slip. Keep in mind you have stitches around your band and they need time to heal. So be careful.
