  1. Congratulations! I've got a goal of doing a 5k, then a 10k, then a half. I do run, though sporadically. I need to get out and do it more. Can't do the treadmill. I lie the change in scenery! A couple of years ago, I had my knee scoped and the surgeon advised against ever running. That was 100#+ ago so I get a bit of a charge when I'm out running, pretty much pain free.

  2. The emotional rollercoaster does have a way off. It's difficult because the easy thing to do is to kick your boyfriend to the curb. I have to be honest. I have never understood why anyone would stay with someone who is just convinced that they will be cheated on. It sounds like his desire is to control you. You've obviously got some diffcult decisions to make. I truly wish that I had some motivational stuff to say to you. Just something to get you over the hump, but sadly, I don't. I'm trying to find a way to help my wife who has gained some weight back and just know that she needs my support. Keep looking forward. You know what needs to happen food-wise. You can make it happen.

  3. My wife and I were both sleeved. We've had a lot of changes in our lives. Last October we became full time caretaker's to her parents when we moved them into our house in Alabama. A week prior to that we had a really bad car accident when a little girl (16 year old) decided to pull out in front of us. We walked away from that, but have a few underlying aches and pains as a result.

Taking care of my wife's parents proved to be too much for she and I to do alone so we've moved to Arizona. We have a daughter here and my wife has a couple of ineffective sisters nearby. My wife still works from home so her job transferred. Meanwhile, I'm getting ready to start a temp job in advance of a full time job on 10/1. I can't wait for that!

Here's the issue we're having. My weight has remained pretty stable. I hit a low of 167 and have rebounded a bit to 172. My body responds very well to hiking and other cardio type exercise. My wife has gained around 20 lbs since hitting her low. She still looks amazing, but her self esteem is taking a hit. She gets out and walks a couple times a day, but due to her parents is unable to do much else. Honestly, I just want her to love herself, but that's difficult. She's feeling like she has failed.

We have not found a doctor out here yet. We've had some recommendations but most are not on our insurance. Surprisingly the Phoenix area is still on the lap band bandwagon. I'm confused by that given the data that is out there.

At any rate, just a bit of a rant this morning. I'm just trying to get a grip on this.

  4. Received the following SPAM PM from a 'lady' calling herself Judith123

"Hello Dearest on, I am Judith D*****, by name, is my pleasure to have come across your contact, and I would love be in a good relationship with you, love is all about feeling, color, ag, distance will not be a hindrance to this because I believe that something good will come it their is no hamr in trial (Spam Email address deleted@yahoo.com)

I am caring, loving kind, and romantic in nature, I wait your respond via so that I can send you my photos and more details about myself,Thanks and God Bless you, (spam email address deleted @yahoo.com)

    Kiss Judith

This type of interaction is unwarranted and unwelcome. There certainly has to be a way to not get this type of junk on this forum. I urge moderators to ban this 'persons' account.

  5. Here's what I enjoy. I recently started a new job and a group of us went out to lunch. We went to the local McDonald's and everyone was ordering their biggie meals. I ordered off the $1 menu and got a McDouble, a small fry and a bottle of Water. As we sat to year, I pulled the top bun off and started eating the burger. After a few minutes, one of the group asked the inevitable question and I answered that I had weight loss surgery and don't eat a lot at each meal and concentrate on the Protein. That started the "My (so and so) had that done and you've got to be careful because they gained all of their weight back" BS. IT amazes me how everyone knows someone that wasn't successful and yet they lump me in with that.

People would so rather have a sense of moral superiority than they need to possess.

  6. Thanks all for the kind words. My wife and I have just returned from Illinois moving her parents down with us. My wife continues to amaze me every day. We're now consolidating their house with ours and have some issues with that. However, I'm completely happy doing this at my current weight rather than the weight that I was last year. I completely could not have done that then!

  7. Thank you to all the people who have commented on Klus263's post. I'm her husband and I can safely tell you that I thought that we were both going to be in Heaven last Friday night The intersection this happened at is a county road. We had the Right of Way and the young lady had a stop sign. Speed limit is 55 mph and people always seem to think that they can pull right on out. I replay the accident in slow motion often and it terrifies me each time. I'm off work for the rest of this week nursing a concussion and a bit of whiplash. Klus 263 is a bit more of a trooper working a half day today and then we leave to assist in getting her parents moved. Thankfully we have help for that and have hired some people to load a truck.

  8. Ok it's been a while but it's time fir an update. This morning I finally made it. 196!!!!. 3 months almost to the day and almost 70 lbs. I'm wearing a 34 waist Jean. Greatest thing vie ever done for myself. I feel freaking great.

Your success mirrors mine. I lost and passed my goal. My weight loss has ended and my lowest was 180.4 and I now hover around 183. I feel great. It's a little odd now when I look at pictures from last year and hardly recognize the person that I was.

  9. On 8/17 I will be 11 weeks post surgery! I haven't felt this good since I was in my 20s and I am 56 and a half years old!

My feet never swell up, I don't huff & puff, I don't sweat like I'm dying, I have so much energy my friends can't keep up. My cholesterol is normal, my sugar is normal, my blood pressure is much lower but not normal yet. I feel LIGHT ON MY FEET! Walking is fun again. I can go up and down stairs easily. My heart rate only increases when I really move myself -- aerobics, running, climbing stairs. I can barely sit still on most days! My sleep is better. I don't stay up all night.

The biggest negatives for me are reflux and nausea BUT THEY ARE IMPROVING CONSTANTLY. It is very freaky not being totally driven by food and eating and that is taking some getting used to. Getting full, getting sick, sliming are all new and challenging.

I WOULDN'T GIVE MY SLEEVE BACK OR GIVE IT UP IN A HOT NEW YORK CITY MINUTE! This sleeve gave me my life back and I am so thankful I learned about VSG!

I mirror most of that. I have never had any real problems with reflux or nausea (which I am eternally grateful for!) I was sleeved on 3/31/11 and like you haven't felt this good since I was in my 20's. I recently got back to running and was able to go a mile nonstop for the first time a couple of days ago. Now that bug is biting and I need some new shoes!

I passed my goal weight a month ago and have dropped a few more pounds. Now to work on maintaining. Best of luck to you in the continued journey.

  10. Ok an update. I'm still very sore. Like doing crunches kind of sore. Feeling better though. I started this at 258 pn july 1. I am post op plus 6 days and I the scales said 232 this morning. I get to start cream Soups today. Boy am I excited about that. 26 lbs down in less than a month.

Awesome stuff Tex. I fondly remember the cream Soup phase of my recovery. I absolutely loved Cream of Chicken! Keep it up and you'll start believing that you made the right decision.

As an update, I started my journey at 272 lbs at the beginning of the year and as I type this, I'm at 187.4.

    Chris.

It was easy for me. Honestly I mean that. My wife got sleeved in December and I just followed her lead. She was my hero in all of this and knew how to prepare foods and just guided me. I know that the biggest challenge is support so that battle was won before it started.

  12. 50 ex college football player. 5'11" and 260. Two kids 5 &13. High blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and diabetic on meds Sleeve scheduled with dr Kim on 7/21. I am scared to death.

Been there, done that, I don't have a t-shirt though. I'm amazed at the way my body responded. I didn't have a lot of side effects of the surgery and have only had a couple of minor hiccups with food. My cravings are very low and easy to manage. I had a laundry list of health issues prior to being sleeved (same as you except for the diabetes) I had some heart issues that scared me incredibly. Since being sleeved, the only meds that I take are for Arthritis and some for prostate.

Drop a line and let us know how you're doing.

  13. Wow, you have lost about 65 lbs in not quite 3 months?? That's really... fast - I'm gonna guess you're a male Chris. :)

Please share a bit about your routine. What's your workout routine, eating habits, etc?

I walk as much as I can. I enjoy playing golf and while it's incredibly hot and humid I do take a cart, but drink lost of Water. Before we bought the house that we're currently in, I was walking around 3 miles each morning and watching the carbs. Now, I'm increasing calories a little and trying to maintain. I'm at a weight that I honestly never thought I'd be at again in my life.

  14. I started this journey weighing 272 pounds at the beginning of the year. When I got sleeved on 3/30/2011 I weighed around 263. This morning I got on the scale and was rewarded with a 199.0 weight. I haven't been under 200 lbs since the 80's! No longer am I afraid of mirrors and the scale no longer laughs at me!

  15. Hellooooo sleevers!! Place your bets, the engines start running on Monday April 25th!!

  16. Played yesterday. My wife and I joined a friend from work and hit a course at twilight. It's going to take some time to put the swing back together. The last time I played I was in the 260+ range, and yesterday I stepped on the first tee at 226.4. Sadly, I got tired pretty quickly and for a few holes only hit tee shots and then watched my wife have a great time. I did play 18 with a good tee shot, crappy second, good 3rd and 2 putts for a par. I might take a week or two off to just work on getting my stamina back.

  17. Had my surgery on 3/30. Lost 40 lbs from my heaviest so far. Visited my doctor today and asked about exercise. He told me to go for it. Now my questions is who plays golf and how soon did you start hitting golf balls?
