  1. WOW! That is very scary, I say run, run, and run some more, don't look back it slows you down. Find another surgeon, that believes in himself.

Coming over from the Band board

Rainy, I am not sure if you are still looking, if so check out Dr. Dennis Smith. From what I have been able to find, he has done the most sleeves here in Atlanta. I can't find information that Dr. Duncan does them, when I went to his seminar they seemed to push the band. At the time I was interested in the band, so I did not ask questions about the sleeve.
  3. Praying that all goes well for you....

    African American Sleevers

Just want to say hi to everyone. I too am in Atlanta. I am just starting this whole process so I won't be having surgery until early 2012, if I am lucky. I don't have the insurance right now, but will be changing once open enrollment rolls around in Nov. Right now I am attending seminars trying to find the right surgeon. I know that the insurance I will be switching to requires 6 months of supervised diet and exercise visits, so I will start that with my PCP in June. I look forward to getting to know you ladies.

    Thinking of Cancelling

This is a great thread! Thanks to everyone that posted. I am just starting to research wls and the whole idea scares the heck out of me. From what I have gathered thus far the sleeve is the best way for me to go. I have been to 2 seminars and will do a 3rd next week.
  7. I am so conflicted and disappointed right now. I went to see my primary care doc today to discuss lap band. Things were going to great until he wanted to refer me to a surgeon. I had already picked out a surgeon based on 2 friends that have already been banded by this surgeon. They absolutely love him. So I tell my do who it is that I am planning to see. The conversation went completely down hill from there. He does not recommend my surgeon at all, he was very adamant about it, he said that he would feel very uncomfortable with me seeing this surgeon, he said he could not go into details but he has heard many horror stories about this surgeon. WTF? This surgeon is well known and is a contributor to Fox5 News, Atlanta’s HOUSECALL. I don't believe my doc would steer me wrong, but damn. I really wanted to see this guy. Do you know where I would go to get information on the surgeon? I have googled and only found 1 bad complaint. Not very much information out there.

    Second guessing myself!!

This is a great thread! I am just getting ready to start my 6 month supervised diet and I am second guessing myself, but after reading this, GOD willing I will have this surgery in 2012. I pray that all of you keep coming to the board to encourage those of us that are scared. You all are great!

Insurance denied! Know of an alternative?

Hi Stephanie, Does your company have other options for insurance, can you change plans at open enrollment? I am in the same boat as you, but I can change insure during open enrollment in November...
  11. WOW! This is great, thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience.
  12. I am new and have not yet been banded, so please forgive me. I am just trying to get a feel for how things work before I make a decision on what it is I am going to do. Since I am in Atlanta, I just looked at the fillusa website and Gadsen is the nearest place to Atlanta, is there a reason she could not got to a doctor here to be filled?

Down 120 then up 160-- Help!

Hi, I am new here myself and have not been banded as of yet. I won't be able to do anything until the beginning of next year if I am lucky. I am sorry to hear about all of the trouble you have had, from what I can gather from this board, you have come to the right place. I have a question if you don't mind. What is the going rate for a fill if you don't have insurance?

    Need A Little Advice

Thanks for the reply Vickyd, yes, I can and I will. I have a friend at work that just had the surgery so I can get all I need from her or just call the insurance company myself. Rachel, thanks for your reply. I really want and need this surgery, I am 112lbs over weight. I really can't chances them turning me down, I will take your advice and lose very little.
  16. Hi All, I am seriously thinking about getting the lap band. I don't have the proper insurance right now, but I will be changing insurance at open enrollment. I am attending a seminar next week. My BMI is currently 43 and I am at my heaviest 250lbs. Here is where I would like to ask for your opinions. Since open enrollment is not until November I would like to get some of this weight off of me. I was thinking I would lose about 50lbs, I have been losing and gaining these same 50lbs for the last 15 years. I know I can do it, my real problem is keeping it off. Now if I do that it will change my BMI to34. I have acid reflux, depression , lower back pain and knee problems. I can provide a 5 year weight history. Do you all think I would still qualify or should I just stay where I am? I did talk to an lap band advocate and she said we could go ahead and start the 6 month diet plan now, so I will be talking to her more about it, but still wanted to ask what you guys thought. Thanks in advance for any help you all can give.

    Need A Little Advice

Thanks for your reply. maybe I should just get my BMI down to 40 and try to hang out there until the end of the year. I just don't want to gain anymore weight waiting for open my new insurance.

    Need A Little Advice

Thanks so much for your reply, I have been able to get 50lbs off in the past, but never all of it and I always, always gain it back. I wish I could get to goal without help. The advocate will be at the seminar on Thursday so I am going to gather as much information from her as I can. Thanks for that information it really helps.

52 views and no reply, I would think at least one of you has an opinion. I'll just wait and talk to the advocate. Thanks anyway...
