  1. I had my VSG surgery on 03/18/11 by Dr. Almanza in Tijuana, Mexico. My consultant was Nina. Her website is bariatricinmexico.com. The best thing about using her is that she sticks with you every step of the way. My cousin and I flew into San Diego and was picked up by the hospital van the next morning. It took about 20 minutes to get from the airport to the hospital. We had our bloodwork done, got ekg's, met with the doctor to discuss any questions and then had surgery. We stayed one night at the hospital with around the clock care. We spent the next night at the recovery house with around the clock care. The next day we went back to San Diego because we had early morning flights the following morning. Everything went very well. My high weight was 196. CW183. I feel great. My coordinator Nina met us at the hospital on the morning of surgery. She took us to the recovery house as well. There were two other patients that had surgery on the same day as my cousin and I. There coordinators never even showed up. Nina has called to check on us a couple of times since we returned back to the states. I just talked to her two days ago because I had some questions about exercise. Everyone at Dr.Almanza's was great. They were really friendly and knew what they were doing. The "hospital" would actually be considered a surgical center here in the states. But it is clean and they have everything that you need. None of the posts that I read before I had surgery told me that I would feel like crap after surgery. Be prepared to feel sore and nauseated for the first 24-48 hours. By day three you will be fine. At least that was my experience. My cousin who has a higher BMI than me has lost over 25 lbs and we had surgery the same day! I am a little upset at how slow my weight loss is but if your bmi is low it's gonna come off a little slower. I wish you luck and success in your weight loss journey. Keep me posted on what you decide to do.

I dont even know where to begin! Leaning towards Mexico! If you had your surgery in Mexico.....

Who was the doctor who performed your surgery, at what hospital and what was your total out of pocket expence if you dont mind me asking. I will be paying cash and I am probably going to be traveling alone, would love any helpful tips on what, if anything I should take with me(for ex:Meds, shakes), I have done alot of research am just so overwhelmed with all the different options. I think I would like to do the Gastric Plication Surgery, since so many people are going that route after failed lap-band and it doesnt seem as invasive as the gastric sleeve because no part of the stomach is removed. I also dont know if I need to see a local physician...i was just reading about stress tests, etc. and I dont know if that is something taken care of there in Mexico post-op or what. I dont want to die on the operating table! I have no health conditions that I am aware of, good blood pressure, no diabetes, just fat! I am 37 yr old female and I weigh 240 lbs and I am sick of being fat all of my life and i dont care what anyone thinks anymore, people have been sabotaging me all my life and its time for a new start:) I have a 15 month old daughter that I wanna be around long enough to see her into adulthood. It would also be nice if I could keep up with her and not be ashamed to be naked around my husband...

    What are your thoughts?

Btw, thank you for your time, I really appreciate it:)

  2. Your body is still pissed off at you, please let it recover without fretting over weight loss these first couple of weeks. They pumped you full of fluids during surgery and recovery so you're losing Water weight as well. Plus, the 3 week stall is pretty inevitable. Just keep following your post-op guideline.

You've lost nearly a pound a day, and one thing I always did was think "when in the past have I ever lost XX amount of weight in XX days?" Honestly, you're doing really fabulous. People with lower BMIs typically do lose slower, but 13pounds in less than 2 weeks is NOT SLOW by any stretch of the imagination. You aren't doing anything wrong as long as you are staying within your prescribed post-op dietary guidelines.

Comparing yourself, and your loss to others is only going to bring unrealistic expectations, and make you feel as if you're doing something wrong when in all reality, your body is yours, and not mine or any other member on this forum.

Thanks Tiffykins. I was just reading one of your other posts about the 3-4 week stall. It made me feel much better to know that this is "normal". At least now I know what to expect. Congrats on the baby! I look forward to following all of your progress with the little one. :)

  3. Good morning! I was sleeved 17 days ago. I have lost 13 lbs so far. I was really expecting to lose more. Maybe I am just anxious to lose but it does seem like most people have a big weight loss during the first two weeks. I am just checking to see if I am doing something wrong. Please share your stories on how your first two weeks post-op went. I am the same weight on day 17 as I was on day 10. Yikes!!!! This isnt what I expected at all. I was 196 to start and now I am 183. I've heard that the lower your BMI the slower it comes off. I am just checking to see what you guys experienced.

  4. Skinny,

I had my VSG done on 03/18/11. I can drink plenty of fluids too. I also feel like I can eat solids already. I actually ate three teaspoons of solid food two days ago while I was preparing dinner for my kids. It was a moment of weakness. I had no pain what-so-ever. However, I did feel full. I am so thankful that I didnt get a leak from eating too soon!!! I am just sharing my story with you to let you know that you are not alone. Yesterday made one week from my surgery date and I have lost 10 lbs. I renewed my commitment to myself to follow the liquid diet and get in as much Protein as possible. I feel like I risked my life by having this surgery and I am not going to risk it again by eating myself into complications. HW196, CW186 GW135. It's time that we find other things to keep us busy so that we wont be so focused on food and being full. At least that is my plan for now. LOL. I wish you much success, and I will keep you posted!

Ok, I am in agreement that the right after surgery SUCKS big time, but I have some concerns. First, Other than incision pain, I feel no different. I still have hunger pains, my stomach growls, I want food so badly. I have no problem with the Protein shakes, other than they don't taste that great, they do not make me sick. In fact nothing makes me sick. 2.) I feel like I could eat anything. I mean like real food. I have not tried yet, but I have had very thin mashed potatoes and it was no problem at all. I quit eating after a cup but really felt like i could eat more. Is this normal? I find myself asking, did he really take my stomach or did I just pay all that money for him to make some cuts on my stomach to make me think he did. I know that sounds crazy, but I am really freaking out right now. My instructions say I should only be able to get in 2-3 oz of full liquids. However I have been drinking those campbells Soup at hand Soups and they are 10 3/4 oz's. I can drink the whole thing with no problem. I really dont have to take small sips ether. I don't gulp but normal swallows don't bother me. I have yet to feel "FULL".

I know this sounds strange to complain about, but so many other people complain about nausea and not being able to get much liquid in which would also suck, but at least they know there sleeve is working. I have no idea.

Has anyone else had these issues. I just feel like I am going through the pain of surgery and now extreme hunger pain for nothing. HELP!!!
