  1. My surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet before my surgery -- he did however require me to lose weight before. With that being said I went back to my old faithful "weight watchers" that I had been successful with in the past (losing 20-30 pounds only to gain it back and then some!!). I have to do clear liquids on Monday before. I'll keep you posted along the way, hope you do the same for me.

    Piercings?

I'm an Registered Nurse in an Operating room and yes, you will most likely have to remove any piercings. The reason that we as nurses and doctors require that is because in the OR we use cautery (which helps to stop bleeding). If you have metal on your body you run the risk of getting an electrical burn (rare, but it happens). If that happens you may end up needing a skin graft, etc... If you're really worried, mention it to your surgeon, and ask if you can replace them with plastic studs (which you can get at any tattoo/piercing studio). Help this helps.

    vitamins

I haven't been sleeved yet either and wanted to start on my vitamins ahead of time. I bought the sublinqual B12 at walmart for $6.00 and a giant chewable vitamin (that tastes just like Flintstone's) at BJ's warehouse for about $11.00. My kids think it's funny that I'm taking their "old" childrens vitamins!!
  5. I had my official "preop/history & physical" appointment today with my surgeon. He told me I'd be on Clear liquids for a week postop, then move onto full liquids for weeks 2 & 3. My question is what do you eat on your full liquid diet to avoid getting bored. It looks like the Soups in the store all have "chunks" in them. Also, can anyone suggest a good website to order Protein foods. I'm being sleeved on March 29th and want to get all my "necessities" in order.

    March Role Call!!

I'm being sleeved March 29th -- Dr. Trivedi, St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York. 10 more days -- yeah!!
  7. I've been very forthcoming regarding my decision to have the sleeve surgery and I've had a tremendous amount of support from my family, friends, and coworkers with 1 or 2 exceptions. In the last few days 2 of my coworkers commented about how good I look because I've lost 25 lbs. (preop - I'm scheduled to be sleeved on 3/29) and they don't understand why I can't just "keep doing what you're doing" with dieting and "why would you alter your body like that when you know you can lose weight". Needless to say -- I was depressed after hearing all this. I've consistently lost weight (and gained it back over the years). I guess what I'm asking is -- what is a good "come back" for this negativity?
  8. I was wondering if anyone could clue me in as to how fast you buy new clothes. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to be able to buy them soon, however I'm not independantly wealthy!! I've seen some people on this site say they outgrew their clothes in a matter of weeks - is that really the case? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated (e.g. should I start buying them when I see they are on sale, buy them tighter in hopes of fitting into them, etc...). Thanks.

    2 weeks and counting

My surgery is also MARCH 29th - I can't wait to start being a loser!! I started the process back in November and at the time it seemed like it would take forever for the months to pass, but here it is and it did seem to go quickly. Good luck on your surgery!!
