  1. Carly,

I am almost 2 years out from my sleeve. I started my journey at 304 pounds and am now at 170 pounds. My goal weight is 140 lbs so I am still 30 lbs from goal and I have def been a slow loser ( or at least I feel I have) Most girls I have talked to have reached goal in less than 2 years. But I myself feel that I couldnt of lost 160 lbs in 2 years if I wanted to! I am in no rush to "get to goal." Sometimes its hard to not compare ourselves with others, but I am convinced that slow and steady wins a race. I have been in this darn stall for 6 weeks and am ready to see the numbers moving. But enjoy this journey and all the NSV's along the way. You will do just fine! :)

  2. Thank you for these great words of wisdom Shadayo! I have been one of those people who have posted on the forums stressing out about my stalls. My husband did me a favor and took the batteries out of my scale. He lets me weigh once a week. I was driving myself crazy if I didnt see the numbers going down. I became quite obsessed with the darn scale. I now focus on all the wonderful things I can do being 130 lbs lighter and know that I am not quite done losing weight. NSV's are MUCH more rewarding than any number the scale can say.

  3. I can completely understand this. My husband is tall and thin as well and can eat whatever he wants and not gain a pound. Even at 18 months out my husband will offer me sweets and whatnot that he KNOWS I dont eat. It will take him some time to get used to the new changes in your eating habits. It can be frustrating at times haha :)

  4. Hi Everyone,

I had my follow-up appointment with my surgeon today. I had written on the forums a little while ago asking advice for this horrible 4 week stall I have been on. For those of you who dont know me a little bit of background for you:

I was sleeved January 25th, 2011. At my highest weight I weighed 304. I am only 5 ft 4. Today at almost 18 months post-op I weighed 173.5! 130 lbs gone forever! I have struggled throughout my journey but can honestly say that I have not one single regret! My blood work all came back perfect. Pre-op I had high cholesterol, I was on medicine for type II diabetes, I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 15 and hardly ever had a period. I also suffered from bad sleep apnea. At age 22, I was a wreck. Now I take no prescription medication, I have had a regular period AND ovulated every month for the past year. I have never felt so good. I was also cleared to try and become pregnant. Although my goal weight is 145# my surgeon told me that I was healthy enough to start trying now. This is a HUGE NSV for me! I have always wanted children and pre-op was told that my chances of having children was slim to none. I probably will not be having children for at least another year ( Im a nursing student and have enough on my plate!) but nevertheless this was wonderful news for me.

Basically, I want to be an inspiration for others. Those who havent been sleeved yet, I know how nerve wrecking and hard it can be, as well as the flood of emotions you feel. You are making a huge commitment to your life. But I can promise you that you will not regret your decision. It takes a leap of faith and a great deal of courage to go through weight loss surgery but the benefits are neverending.

To those that have already been sleeved, whether your 2 days post-op or 2 years post-op I encourage you to enjoy your journey. Be patient and take it one day at a time. I have been notorious for getting bent out of shape when the scale isnt moving the way I want it. It is important to enjoy yourself at every weight and enjoy watching yourself become a healthier, happier you. This website is full of such wonderful people with a plethora of great knowledge. I feel blessed to be a part of such a great community.

Good luck to all of you! :)

  5. I am a year and a half out and my sleeve loves just about everything. Of course my eating habits have changed so much now. I keep relatively low carb since I ALWAYS eat my Protein first, which leaves little room for carbs. I dont feel like I am missing out though (thats one of the greatest things about the sleeve) I eat what I want and make good decisions and always in moderation! I have been very fortunate. The only thing that makes me really queasy is milk. Best of luck to you!

  6. Hi There!

I had the sleeve surgery about a year and a half ago. At my highest I weighed 304 lbs and now I weigh 175 lbs with my goal weight being about 145 lbs. One of the main reasons I had surgery was so I could have a family of my own. Before surgery I hardly ever had a period. I was diagnosed at age 15 with PCOS. I was told by my OB-GYN that the chances of me getting pregnant were slim to none. Since about 3 months post-op I had a period and ovulated every month religiously!! Now I was told to be very careful because the chances of me getting pregnant were very good. I will be seeing my surgeon next week and I def want to ask him about getting pregnant! Its the most wonderful feeling knowing that a family will be in my future. Best of Luck!

  7. Hi There! I am 23 and at my biggest weighed 304 lbs. I was always a larger girl who spent most of her teen years around 230-250. I now weigh 175 lbs and do have a bit of excess skin. I was nervous about the excess skin pre-op too. I was told that since I was so young, the chances of my skin snapping back was good. Some of it did, some of it didnt. My excess skin now is mostly in my arms and tummy. Honestly though, excess skin is the least of my worries. I would almost say I wear my excess skin like a prize. I am the tiniest I have ever been since 8th grade! I have lost an entire person in weight and I am healthy, which is something that I never in my wildest dreams imagined! I would much rather been skinny and have some excess skin than be fat and have tight skin. When you get further out from surgery I am sure you will feel this way too. There are surgery options for excess skin if it really is bothersome to you. Dont fret too much though, I dont think you have much to worry about at all! Best of luck!

  8. My nutritionist like yours was very lax on carbs as well. She actually encouraged me to eat a little bit of healthy carbs every day, especially if I am exercising. During the losing phase I try to stay around 40. I'll eat oatmeal in the morning and some Carbmaster yogurt as a snack in the evening. I think it really depends on how carbs affect your body and weight loss. I find that if I keep my carbs low, the weight seems to come off fairly steady. I am currently in a 4 week stall and will probably try uping my carbs a little bit to see if that makes the scale drop at all.

  9. O.T.R Sleever: I think thats just what I needed was a reality check! Its a bit ridiculous that I feel that way. Stalls just make you feel crappy no matter how much weight you've lost. I love my sleeve and am so very fortunate I have this great tool. I didnt get fat overnight and shouldnt expect it all to come off overnight either. Thanks for the much needed reality check!

  10. Hi Everyone, I have not posted on here in a while. I had my surgery January 25th 2011. My starting weight was 304 lbs. Now on June 6th 2012 I weigh 176 lbs. ( Thats a 128 lb loss) My goal post op is 145-150 lbs. I have been a slow loser and recently my weight loss has just stopped. Ive been stuck at this darn 176 lbs for 4 whole weeks! I keep trying to keep myself from being discouraged, but it can be hard when I see those sleeved at the same time as me meeting their goals already. There are days when I feel like a complete failure! I read the posts on this site a lot and am looking for some support and to provide others with support as well. I look forward to talking with all of you.

  11. Hey Everyone,

I'm 11 days post-op and feeling great. I have been very lucky to have had no nausea, vomiting, very little pain, and all around I can do all the things I used to do before surgery. I was wondering if anyone else this early in wasn't having any problems with their liquids. I can drink a bottle of Water fairly easily. I have very little restriction when it comes to water, crystal light, etc. I do have some restriction when it comes to cream of wheat, yogurt, S.F pudding. I just want to make sure my little belly is working right. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  12. Hey Everyone,

Just had a quick question. I was sleeved on the 25th and still seem to be having a lot of gas pains. I constantly feel like there's a big air bubble in my chest and sometimes it hurts after I swallow some liquids. Ive been trying to do a lot of walking and it seems to help a bit. Is it normal to still be having gas pains at almost a week post op? Is anybody else experiencing anything like this?

  13. Hey everyone, Im in the exact same boat! It feels good to know that others are going through the same thing I am. I was sleeved on the 25th and am 6 days post-op. I feel really bubbly and gassy in my tummy. I get a pain on my left side of my breastbone and sometimes feel like I swallowed a big bubble of air. I was just going to ask if the gas they pump you up with is supposed to hang around this long. I hope it will go away soon. I was able to eat some yogurt this morning and it was soooo yummy. I tried some smooth cream of wheat this afternoon and it was a no go! I cant wait to start on more mushy foods. Hope everyone gets feeling better soon!

  14. I am also a January 25th sleever. Sounds to be completely normal to me. Also are you opening your prilosec and dumping them in your liquids instead of swallowing the whole capsule? My tummy is very sore, theres lots of air and gas and hunger pains. Hopefully in a week or two we'll be feeling much better! Hang in there everyone!
