Question for Post-Op patients of Dr. Aceves in MX

    1) When was your surgery with Dr. Aceves? June 15, 2010 2) How much weight have you lost? 25 lbs 3) Tell me (briefly) about your stay in his facilities? (i.e., cleanliness, friendliness of staff, attentiveness of his nurses) outstanding on all counts 4) Did you have any complications, even if they were very minor? I ran a fever for a few hours in the hospital and had all the nurses and Doctors fussing over me. It went down quickly. Two days after returning home I developed a throat infection unrelated to surgery (I have allergies) and felt sick for 2 weeks. I had to take antibiotics. 5) If your child wanted to use this surgeon in the future, how would you feel? absolutely 6) How did you get to/from the facilities? I flew to San Diego. My cousin's wife lives in Dana Point, CA and is from Mexicali. She picked me up at the airport and we drove to Mexicali. I used Dr. Aceves driver for the trip back to the airport 7) How difficult was it to schedule your surgery? Not very. I did not get my first choice because Dr. Aceves was attending a conference that week. I scheduled 6 weeks prior to surgery 8) What kind of pre-operative requirements does his staff have? I had to submit a lengthy medical history. I was on a lo carb diet for 2 weeks pre-op. He only required 1 week. Fasting before pre-op blood work and the night before surgery 9) What do you regret about using Dr. Aceves? Nothing. 10) On a scale of 1 to 10, what would you rate your overall experience using Dr. Aceves? 10 __________________
  2. I was a 2x or 18W. My surgery was on June 15. I am now 16W pant, 16W or XL top and a 16W or 14W dress. Top seems to be shrinking quicker than the bottom but that is due to my belly. I need to start exercising.
  3. I mix mine with skim milk and add instant coffee. Not bad and I get my caffeine since I stopped drinking my coffee when I had surgery. You could also try adding the sugar free syrups.

    Confessions of an exercise-phobe

I also hate exercise and have lots of joint and back problems. I had no energy following the surgery and just started feeling better in the past week. I am doing 10 - 12 minutes a day on my elliptical machine. I know it doesn't sound like much but I am building up my stamina. I plan to take a yoga class at the end of the month and since I do love dancing am looking for a Zumba class.

An inquiring mind wants to know

The surgeons at CHRIAS do the sleeve but they do not "specialize" and when I visited them several months ago the practice had done only about 40 procedures. I decided on Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, although I really liked Dr. Iragau at CHRIAS,

    Nectar Protein Drinks

In my opinion it tastes terrible but some people love it. I have the Roadside Lemonade and the Fuzzy Navel. I can tolerate half a scoop of Fuzzy Navel in some crystal light peach iced tea.I did like the cappuccino.
  7. I have sleep apnea and had the surgery. He probably wants to tell him to be sure to bring his cpap machine with him. I was tubed so no worries about breathing during the surgery

    Aceves people PLEASE HELP :)

I was sleeved on JUne 15. It was as easy as any surgery can be. It was my best hospital expereince ever. I just got an email from Dr. Aceves 2 days ago and I am in frequent communication with Gabby his coordinator for post op patients. I received wonderful care and great aftercare.
  9. I have lost 1 lb in 3 weeks and I am feeling very discouraged since I barely get 600 -700 calories a day. I am having difficulty eating at all. I don't even knowhow it is possible not to be losing.

On Soft Foods so ... Tomatos?

I am 7 weeks and have been eating my home grown tomatoes for 3 weeks with no problem
  11. I had my surgery on June 15 and returned to work on June 29. It was too soon and I really needed another week especially since I had a throat infection. I was very fatigued the first 2 weeks back to work and still do not have my stamina totally back at 8 weeks post op. It is harder to get in all the fluids at work than it is at home. I have a sedentary desk job.

    Pills and Vitamins

I bought a little device at the drugstore. One end cuts pills in half and the other end crushes them. It has come in handy since all they had in Mexico was 40mg nexium so I cut each one in half. I swallow a capsule every morning. I tried the calcium citrate but it made me feel sick. That was at 2 or 3 weeks. I am now 7 weeks so will try again. I take a sublingual B-12 and a chewable multi that tastes like pineapple.

    Please help my new friends

Your weight and BMI were within the normal range and you are now in the 50th percentile, average. There is no way a doctor should have cut out your stomach just because you begged him to do it. There is nothing wrong with your body size and as a psychotherapist I agree with the previous poster. Please get some help to address your body image and do not try to lose another 40 lbs.
  14. Dr. Aceves said 8 weeks after surgery for yoga.
  15. I have allergies and get sinus infections. I had an upper respiratory infection right after surgery. The post nasal drip made me vomit a couple of times. I take a steroidal nasal spray. It took a few weeks to work but keeps tings pretty well under control

    wiped out

Yes. I am 6 weeks. I have chronic fatigue and fibro and my back has been hurting. I feel exhausted all the time. Yesterday I took a sick day and slept 5 hours and then went to bed at night as usual. I feel wiped out with any physical exertion

    Hunger?

I am 6 weeks out and I have NO hunger. In fact I really don't want to eat or drink at all and struggle to get in protein and fluids. I am so restricted it takes me 2 hours to eat a small amount of anything and sipping makes my stomach feel bloated.

    anyone get dizzy

It is possible it has nothing to do with your WLS. I recently had a bout of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. You can read about it here.Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) - MayoClinic.com

    Please help

I would file a complaint with the local medical society. That is who disciplines doctors. The next thing I would do is hire an attorney and subpoena your surgery records. Everyone is playing CYA (cover your ass) and afraid of a lawsuit. Can you go see your PCP? If not your attorney will arrange to have you medically examined.

    My Primary Doctor was PISSED

I don't necessarily think her doctor was insensitive or worried about a kick back. I was married to a PCP and most of them work long hours and are genuinely interested in their patients' welfare. If they were really out just for money they wouldn't be a GP they would be a specialist. His opinion is only based on his experience and information and he was probably more annoyed that as your PCP you did not discuss this major medical decision with him and get his feedback. It sounds like your doc is worried about your health and nutrition. The research I have read does find that VSG patients are at risk for Vitamin D, Vitamin A, folate, and B-12 deficiencies. I gave my PCP information on the procedure when I went to talk to him about it. Even though he does not like WLS in general he has been supportive. When you see him next time I would give him some studies (docs like science) to read and tell him you will work with him to make sure your nutritional profile looks good.

    so tired and weak

I felt pretty much the same. I am able to eat a 6 oz yogurt in 60 minutes now. I can drink at least 40-45 oz of fluid in a day and get about 50 - 60 g of protein in at 4 1/2 weeks. I am still tired but not nearly as weak as I was 2 weeks ago. It seems to get better every day and then some days are better than others. I do better when I get enough fluid and protein and take my vitamin. Try sugar free Popsicles to get ore fluids
  24. Yes. Yes. And Yes. I am 4 weeks out and am still tired, and getting less irritable but still a little cranky. Concentration is better. I am feeling less weak. I am very restricted and struggling still to get in enough fluids, calories and protein. I have to force each bite and sip.

    i'm going to fail....

I was sick right after my surgery on 6/15 too and I felt miserable, depressed and just plain cranky. I vomited several times because of all the mucous. In fact I just started feeling human yesterday. Take it slow. Your body has had a double whammy. Major surgery and an upper respiratory infection. Even if you hadn't just had the sleeve you would feel ill, so give yourself some time to recover. Just focus on the fluids for now and stay hydrated. If you can tolerate the chewable Vitamins use them. They helped me. Last week I felt so ill and weak that I could not even do 1 minute on my ellipse machine. I though I was going to collapse. I just did 10 minutes. Not great but a big improvement. Take it slow.
