  1. I'm scheduled for April 7. I'm nervous wreck. I keep going back and forth about it. If I should have it done or I can lose the weight another way.

I had the lap band 2 yrs. then it slipped. so here i am again. weight gained back plus 10 more, since Nov. of 2013.

Im afraid I won't take care of myself as I schould and end up worse. I can focus on everyone else but me. I pray I make it thru and dont back out. :( thanks for listening oceanswaves

  2. I'm so sorry, I'm going thru the same thing too. My precious Boston terrier just died from cancer. He was only 7 yrs old he was our baby too. I stayed with him till he had robe put down. I feel so responsible too. I can't seem to get better from my nerves, I just want to be home with our maltipoo . She was under the bed for 2 weeks, so bewildered . She is so loney, but I just can't seem to look for another dog. My heart is also too broken up. People tell me it was just a dog but not to us! I miss him soo much thanks for listening all too. 3. Hi my band has slipped also. My dr. Removed all the Fluid and waited a month for swelling to go down he said sometimes it goes back in place on its own. I waited and then I felt ok. So he's proceeding to fill it again little by little very slowly. 1 cc at a time. He wanted to remove it all to get her. And not replace it. Or adjust it. I said no way, can we see how I feel? He said ok so now I feel normal again and am proceeding cautiously

    Sincerely

  4. I'd be surprised if it's a slip with no pain. Night coughing and acid reflux are common symptoms of either being too tight or pouch dilation. Either way I'd call your doc. In the meantime I'd recommend taking some liquid motrin' date=' going on full liquids for a few days, and not eating right before bed. Eating right before bed always causes me trouble.[/quote']

Could I get your opinion too? I have been banded

2 yrs but have had fill and unfill problems like these last for times in a yr. I had for about a month the exact problems they had, I had a upper g I done and it showed I have a partial slip. He left 4 cc out o 9 in. Now he says he will remove the band in a month. He won't do a revision because he feels it didn't work for me, since I only lost 30 lbs. but I'm not diabetic now and my blood work should him that. To me it is a win. I only needed 20 more to go. I'm now waiting to get another G.I

To see if it has gone back to the right place. If not he says he will remove it. And not replace it. He says lap bands aren't being done as much now he does sleeves. I don't qualify my bmi is too low and I have to gain weight again first. This is insane to me I know I can't do it alone so I'm fighting for a revisionall adjustment. I'm so down about this again I have failed myself. Thanks for listening.

  5. That is so good to hear. I have to have my band out in a month. Partial slip, and surgeon says he will try to revise my band or take it out period. He feels I didn't do well at my 2 yr check up. Since I only lost 30 lbs and my bmi didn't go down enuf. I'm not diabetic anymore so I think I did good. I'm praying for a revision

  6. I too am so confused. I had acid reflux and some vomiting so I had a upper gi done after 3 yrs the band has slipped partially the dr left 4 cc in and had me come back it was awful. He said it was swollen now he wasn't going to touch it till a month I asked about a new lap band he said no that it really never worked for me since I only lost 30 lbs. I said it did cause now I am not diabetic. He said I should have a gastric sleeve done and I wi be perfect. But I don't have a high enough bmi so if I gain weight in an

Month then my bmi will qualify and I can have the other sergery what a disappointing dr help some please I can't do it on my own and I can't be diabetic afain

  7. Hi,

I had my l.b. surgery back in March of 2011. It has taken me this long to get to where they(drs' staff)

says I should be. And finally I have started to lose weight quickly. I too am having this problem since my last fill about 3 weeks ago. I can't seem to inhale as much as usual. Like I need to sigh constantly too. I called the office and 1 person said this is normal. Then a P.A. called my back and said I could stay this way if I can still eat. Or come in for an unfill.

So I will let evryone know what the outcome is. I will try 1 more day. If the same, Then I will go in.

I hope this info helps you a bit. I'ts like something is slightly pressing on my upper stomach.

    Sincerely

    hi,

I live in chino hills and just got banded 3/26/11. I am 55. So far ok. One thing I never knew was that we don't get a fill till like 6wks later, so at first I was starving after surgery, I am still hungry, but not as bad. NOw I am on soft foods which is such a help. i also forget to mention to my Dr.

about which band he was putting in. the lapband or the realize band.

My son lives out in O.C. Newport.

    Sincerely

    oceanswaves@aol.com;)

  9. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO LIKE ME, IS JUST BANDED 3/28/11 WITH OUT THE FILL YET, ON THE liquid diet AND HUNGRY ALL THE TIME? I KEPT WONDERING WHY I WAS STILL HUNGRY AND HAD THE BAND IN. THEN MY SURGEON TOLD ME THEY DON'T START TO FILL IT TILL 6 WEEKS. I WAS MORTIFIED!!

HE SAID MY STOMACH AREA IS ADJUSTING TO THE INSERT AND VERY SWOLLEN STILL. SO WHY THE DIFFERENT DIET PHASES , LIKE YOU CAN CHOKE ON YOUR pills ETC.

    HELP!

    SOME ON EXPLAIN

    THANKS

    GUYGUYS1 :o

  10. :P

HI Tyler and welcome to the forums!

Try Gas X strips. They seem to work best for me and for most other people. I was only banded on the 29th of march and the gas for me was the most difficult thing to bear. It does break up and pass, believe me! make sure you get up and walk around a lot too.

    Good luck!

  11. I just got banded on 3/28/11. I am to follow a liquid diet for a week, then a soft diet next week.. I am to try and have 40grms of protiein at least, daily. I kept feeling hungry over and over and I felt like I was not reaching a full point.

I finally gave in and called my doctor.

I spoke with a P.A. She told me I am hungry because my band isn't even filled yet for 6 weeks. I was so terrified I would choke on my small pills etc. too.

Is this true I never heard of this. I thought the band got filled immediatly.

    please explain anyone

    thanks so much

  12. :DHi,

I am soo glad to hear this info from you. I wanted to hear some honest info out there too, about the lap band. That way we know that we need to look out for these issues too. My lap band is set for 3/28 Mon. at 11 am. and I still can't make up my mind..

My problem is I have to take anti depressants that can't be crushed, cut or dissolved. So I am afraid to go down the tubes again mentally. I will ask the hospital now.. My psyc said to just crush them, but the pharmasist said I can't.. Any info appreciated.

    thanks

  13. I did the in-depth research on the various weight loss surgeries. I asked the questions. Did more research. Asked more questions. I lurked on this forum and other band forums for months. Despite that, I discovered some things post band that I wish I had known before surgery. Would it have made a difference in whether or not I had it...or whether I had chosen another method than band...I don't know.

When I was lurking in the forums, trying to make up my mind, there were very few negative posts about the band. When someone did post that the band wasn't working for them or they were having difficulties, other posters told them 'the band didn't fail you. You failed the band." It left the impression that the band works for everyone who works the band...and that's just not true.

    I wish I had known...

That the band would not restrict the quantity of food I can eat. I got the band because I thought it would make me feel full or make me stop eating...which is how it was advertised at the time and what people were saying it did on the forums. Perhaps it works that way for some but it has never worked that way for me. Even at my sweet spot I can eat as much as I could pre-band *if I choose*.

That the band is not consistent, even at the sweet spot, at controlling hunger. Since the band tightens and loosens even a bit on its own, there are days where the hunger is intense and days where it's controlled. On the hungry days, all I can do is white knuckle it. Sometimes I'm successful, but sometimes it goes on for enough days that I lose it.

That the band can cause phrenic nerve pain that may or may not go away and which may be persistent enough and painful enough to affect my sleep, whether I can sit in a car or plane long enough to go anywhere and my range of motion and general health related to trying to prevent that pain.

That eating would become a daily challenge. Foods that were fine one day, would not be fine the next depending on whether my band tightened or loosened a fraction. That, despite taking small bites and chewing well, I might still find myself in a restaurant unable to eat the meal I had just paid for because my band had tightened.

I'm not trying to convince people to not get the band, or to do vertical sleeve or bypass instead. I just think it's important, and wish the surgeons would be more up front about these problems, so we can make more informed decisions about something so important. For many people, these forums are where they get the information they need when trying to make that decision, so it's important that we be just as honest about the difficulties we've faced with the band. Not to scare them off but so they have *all* the information and not just one side of it.

After 16 months I am in the process of getting my band removed due to the pain it is causing me. Bypass is not an option. There are worse things in life than being fat and, in my opinion, bypass is one of them. At this point in time, I can't bring myself to do the vertical sleeve either. It's just far more invasive than I'm prepared to go at this point.

I've kept journals since I was a teenager. My husband suggested I pull the journals from the period when I lost 70 pounds without the band...and kept it off for almost a decade now. When I look back at my journals from that time, some days were good days...some were bad and I had to whiteknuckle it. Much like I do now except I didn't have to deal with the pain in my arm, stuck and sliming episodes or wondering whether I was going to have to excuse myself from the dinner table. So, I've pretty much decided to give it a go on my own.

One thing the band has done for me is make me far more aware of my eating habits and create new ones that make me more successful at putting down that fork and choosing the right foods. As a result, I no longer take insulin and my diabetes is under control with diet alone. So it's not an experience I regret. It's just life. We make the best choices we can with the information available to us and, if it's not successful, we regroup and revise.

    Just my .02.

  14. :( I am getting banded on 3/28/11 and I am going thru the same roller coaster! I go from yes to no. I have to have hernia repair done too. I feel I will have to be off too long etc..

But I have got tremendous support from here.. I feel it is normal, my fear is I might not wake up!!! but, I am learning thru here that it will be just fine.

So Relax and take a deep breath and we are here to listen.

  15. Just wondering if anyone else out there is getting banded on 3/21..which is only two days away. I have been an emotional roller coaster and am so scared of going under general anesthesia. The sad thing is I see people EVERY day get intubated and go under general anesthesia and they have ALL been fine. I'm just starting to fear that I will cry and freak out once I get to the surgery center. I want this more than anything and have been very compliant with my 7 day high Protein low carb diet (down 6.2 pounds). Just need to know if I am the only one out there who is scared and super emotional.

  16. :D hi,

I am soo glad to hear that!! I too have to have hernia repair at the same time and I am soo freaked out about having to take more time than normal to have the 2 done together..

I only went to one group support meeting so I feel I don't have enough

info for when I get home..thanks all for listening. my surgery is 3/28.
