    recovery time off work?

I agree that it depends on you and what type of work you do. While in one of my classes at the bariatric center, a woman came in to say hi and told us she was sleeved on a Friday and went back to work on Monday. Even though I don't work, I can't imagine having to have gone back to work sooner than 2 weeks. I wasn't in pain from the surgery, but the gas pains were still there and dealing with nausea, heartburn and reflux....there's no way I could have done it.

    Drain Removal

I agree with Jordien! And I didn't even have a drain.
  3. Did anyone else have to get a hernia repaired at the same time of their sleeve? I'm wondering if you're feeling the same way I am....like crap. I'm thankful that I'm not in pain, but this reflux is like nothing I've ever felt before. It keeps me up/wakes me up at night, and prevents me from eating. I had two crackers today. Sigh. Do you have any suggestions for relief? I started with Pepcid complete (doesn't work), then I started taking Gaviscon, which worked the first night but now it's not so much working anymore. I called my surgeon and he basically told me he could give me a script for a PPI, but that it might not take care of the issue. Then he went on about swelling and that being the reason why the reflux is currently so bad but eventually it'll pass. Which I don't doubt but I just need to know how to handle it now.

    Hernia Repair

My doctor finally gave me a prescription!! Thank you baby Jesus! I got a prescription for Protonix and I started taking it tonight so (obviously) I don't know how it works yet, but fingers crossed.

    Too Soon?

I think I'm experiencing my "what did I do to myself moment?" Which, if I think about it, is completely irrational at this point, considering I was just sleeved on the 27th. But right now it sucks. I can't eat anything because everything makes me sick, which makes me lie down all day, which means I'm not walking, etc. etc. I'm not getting Protein because I can't stomach the shakes (and I've tried about 5 of them) and I'm HUNGRY!!! I keep telling myself to wait it out. Physically I feel better but I know my insides haven't had that much time to heal yet. I just want it to hurry up. Sorry for whining

    Throwing up nothing?

Thanks Maddie! I talked to my nutritionist this morning about the problems I've been having. She suggested that starting today until this weekend, I revert back to Clear liquids, then next week go to full liquids, and so on. So yay. I get to go to an event on Friday, a wedding on Sunday, and a family reunion next weekend without getting to eat anything. I am beyond annoyed. Stupid hernia repair.

    Hernia Repair

Oh my! Okay, tomorrow I'm making him give me one because that does not sound fun in the least. Glad you're feeling better though!
  8. I swear, mine is worse than before my hernia was repaired. I'm popping Pepcid like candy, but it doesn't really provide much relief. And I often wake up with a tightness in my chest and a lump in my throat, almost like I have to throw up, but I feel like that can't be since I haven't even eaten anything. Is anyone else having problems like this and do y'all have any suggestions for relief?

    Sleeve tomorrow

I can relate. I was sleeved on the 27th and while my mother knew and was on board, we didn't tell my father until the morning of the surgery. As in, when I was in the hospital going through the admittance process. Not the best idea and he didn't speak to me the rest of the time I was at their house recovering. However, we've made peace and I think he's realizing that 1) my body, my choice and 2) in the end, it will all be worth it. Keep your head up and don't stress. Just take this time to relax and prepare. Good luck to you tomorrow!
  10. I just tried some Gaviscon and even though it's only been about 45 minutes, I can definitely feel a difference. Soooo much better than Pepcid. We'll see how I feel later, but right now I'm feeling much better. Thanks Tiffy!!
  11. Thanks! I was going to mention Nexium to my doctor because I was talking to my dad about it and he said that's what he's on. But I'm definitely going to give others a try, too. Ughhh. Can't wait until I feel better.

  12. I'm glad you're feeling better. I definitely wish I was where you are. Keep up the good work!

  13. Do you have any suggestion for a good OTC med? Right now I'm using Pepcid complete but it is 100% not working I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow because you're right, I can't keep being miserable.
  14. I was recently sleeved on the 27th, so right now my con list is longer than my pro list. However, I'm thinking within a few months, that will change: My cons (for now): - throwing up (whether or not I have eaten doesn't seem to make a difference) - persistent heartburn and reflux - always nauseous - unable to eat anything because of aforementioned nausea - not eating=not getting enough Protein - laying down all day instead of walking because I'm always thisclose to throwing up - no energy because I'm not eating Pros: - down 27 lbs. which is the most weight I've lost. Ever.

    Too Soon?

Thanks for the encouragement. I keep telling myself it'll get better but it's just so frustrating right now. I've heard Muscle Milk is good so I might give that a try; it's just the most miserable feeling to think I'm going to throw up at any second. I think I'm staying hydrated enough, but I haven't really been keeping track. I just keep my Water bottle attached to me and drink from it all day. Is it normal to be able to drink all day and not feel full? Because I do. I can't wait until I'm at that point where this feeling is just a dim memory.
  16. I did try to stop eating and drinking before bed, but a lot of times that doesn't help either. Is yours constant because I feel like mine is. I feel it when I'm eating, when I'm not eating, laying down, sitting up, walking around. It's pretty annoying.
  17. No, I'm not on a PPI but after your reply, I'm definitely going to get in contact with my surgeon and ask him about that. Thanks so much! I was starting to feel like I was going crazy.
  18. I'm a week a few days out from being sleeved and just started my mushies phase. However, I'm having trouble eating because almost everything I choose is making me ill. I know for a fact I'm not getting in enough Protein. I've tried about 5 different Protein shakes and they all make me sick. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm not so concerned about getting in enough food as I am in making sure that I keep my protein intake up.
  19. Oh. Ignore my last comment. I failed to scroll down. Sorry it didn't work
  20. That is too funny! Just yesterday I said the first thing I'm making in stage 3 is chili. Let us know how it goes!

    borderline repulsed by food!?

Oh my gosh, I feel exactly the same way! I tried jello, took two bites, and threw it away. The only thing I'm not repulsed by so far are the popsicles. I'm nearing the end of my second week....well, actually, I'm confused about that. My surgery was on the 27th of September and so I counted that whole week as week 1 Clear liquids, and then this past Monday, I started week 2. Is that even right? When I visited my doctor on Tuesday, he said it was okay to move to mushies. Anyways, I'm getting off topic. A lot of food is not sitting well with me. Mashed potatoes, cream of potato Soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce, grits. None of those are okay with me right now. So far, I've been drinking tea and eating crackers because those are the only things that don't upset my stomach. I keep trying to remind myself that it hasn't even been a full two weeks and to give it time, but I'm hungry. Waaahhh.
  22. My doctor prescribed my Pepcid AC. That and walking should help out a lot. Also, don't be afraid to let it out the other end <------helpful advice from one of my nurses. LOL

    Having Trouble Eating

Thanks for the advice everyone! I saw my doctor before I left Jacksonville and he told me to move it up to mushies, but perhaps I should go back a level. I'm not even sure if mushies are the stage I'm in; that's what he called it. In my bariatric notebook, they call it "full liquids." I can eat cream based Soups (with no actual food pieces in them), cottage cheese, yogurt, soft cheese, crackers, and mashed potatoes, in addition to everything from Clear Liquids. Is that the same? But I hardly eat any of that because so far I've tried all of it and it all makes me sick. Except the crackers, which I only eat when I'm feeling sick. I barely eat during the day, too, especially if I start feeling nauseous. I'm definitely going to look for some Protein shots though. I just can't wait until I can eat without feeling like it was a bad idea. LOL Thanks again!
  24. Am I the only one? I haven't had a BM since the morning of surgery, and that was 6 days ago. I don't feel like I need to go and I realize I'm only drinking liquids, but shouldn't those be making their way out, too?
  25. Is anyone else having problems sleeping? I don't think I've slept a full night since surgery last week. Even if I try falling asleep after midnight, I'm still up a few hours later. Also, I am itching like crazy. Not just my incisions, but the area where my skin folds. This never happened before. Any suggestion for relief? I've been using Calamine lotion, but that doesn't really help.
