  1. My kids are little (2 and 4) so I just told them I would be gone for a couple of days, but you might want to rethink bringing them to the hospital. Everyone is different of course, but I looked like hell the day of surgery. I was all drugged up, but still in pain. I couldn't really focus on anything and I would think that would be pretty scary for a kid. By the next day I had a better handle on myself.
  2. Gee Stacy...I am sorry. What kind of protein shake are you drinking? How much calaries/carbs? The shake I drink has 130 calories, 24 grams of protein, 4 carbs, and 1.5 g of fat. They only thing I can think of is that maybe your shakes has too much of the bad stuff and you are inadvertently consuming more than you should.

How much weight should be lost?

Are you taking any protein shakes? You do need some protein and if you are not getting it, your body will hold on to everything.

Kaiser hasn't a clue what they are doing.

Get a height check. I was in the same situation and we checked my height a low and behold-we were using the wrong number. It made the difference!

    Fast tracked?

I too went pretty fast through Kaiser SSF. I think that may be more typical of them than not. Who is your doctor? Good luck and keep us posted!

    C-Section vs VSG

I have had 2 c-sections and was just sleeved last Wednesday. The sleeve was soooo much worse for me initially. The difference is that the pain doesn't last as long. The day of surgery and the two days after were a nightmare. By Saturday I was feeling better and each day has been progressively better.
  7. Hi Hugsamber...I think it varies on your surgeon and your overall shape. People who tend to carry the majority of their weight in the belly may be asked to lose more and some surgeons seem to want more loss than others. I started out at 247 pounds and was asked to lose 17. I don't really carry my weight in my belly so that may be a factor.

    Few days out

Hey Mashezia and gayle...just realized you are both in Tacoma. Loved the Northwest! My dad was stationed at Fort Lewis for 3.5 years and I graduated from high school there. If there was any other place I would live, it would be Washington...rain and all

    Few days out

Jordien...you might want to call in about the lungs. If you have mucus settling that could easily turn into something else. They may want to give you something for it. Lovin the idea of Crystal Lite Popsicles :glare: I need to look for those! Well, I was able to sleep on my side a bit last night. That felt good. My back has been killing me! I got a good 5.5 hours, which is the longet I have slept sinec surgery. Felt good :thumbup1:
  10. Not even remotely interested in food, but I would love to gulp down a big glass of something. Just feeling the desire to really wet my throat lol I was up a bout 5 pounds when I came home and I have lost about 3. I can certainly tell I am swollen so i am not concerned.

    Few days out

Today (day 3 post op) I got in about 30 grams of protein and 25 oz of water. Not were I should be, but an improvement over yesterday. I'll shoot for higher numbers tomorrow!

    Everyday eating

The only thing I heard I will never actually be able to tolerate is carbonated beverages. I'll miss the occasionally diet pepsi

    September sleevers wanted!

Hi Lisa...I understand how you feel. I was sleeved on 9/22 and am really looking forward to "normal." I am still in pain, not sleeping well, and weak. It is getting better and better so I know in another week I will have improved significantly. I am still pretty swollen. I tried to go to the park this morning with my family and I literally could not fit into my pants. That was a little discouraging, but I am sure things will calm down. I am walking as much as possible. Good luck to all the new sleevers :001_tt2:

    Few days out

selvester420...that big bubble is acid reflux and it hurts! If you didn't get a prescription for something call your nurse and ask for it. Now that I seem to have the under control (pepcid every 12 hours with a chewable maalox in between) I am feeling much better. Sip as much as you can. I am pretty much always nursing a protein shake that I make with water, but I feel weak too.
  16. I have ad a lot of acid and am taking Pepcid twice a day. I crush it to nothing and take in a couple of spoonfuls of pudding or applesauce. My doc told me to bridge the gap between the doses of pepcid with Maalox. Keep your stomach coated. Good luck!

    Few days out

Day 4 and I am doing a little better. Today my goal is to drink, drink, drink. Still so not interested in food, but I will work down my protein shake. I am pretty mobile. I went for two walks around my neighborhood yesterday and walked around the house as much as possible. Pain is still there and I am not particularly motivated to do anything, but I can't lay in bed anymore. It is killing my back! I think it will mostly be a couch and movie day, but I do see light at the end of the tunnel.
  18. Hi All...I got my sleeve on Wed and csme home yesterday. Dr. Alami said it was "textbook." The last two days have been a blur. The 2.5 hour drive home was a nightmare. I swear I felt every bump in the road. I wish I had stayed an extra day. I have been in a lot of pain and am trying to figure out what works for me. The Pepcid is huge. It makes such a difference in how I feel. Just sipping Water becomes painful when it wears off. I am getting Maalox to help bridge the gap between the Pepcid since I can only take it every 12 hours and it wears off at about 7. I am taking liquid Tylenol with codeine for pain, but hoping to switch to regular liquid tylenol tomorrow since I think the codeine is making me constipated. Right now, just trying to sip as much as I can. Sooooo not interested in eating or drinking, but I am forcing myself to choke down my Protein shake. It looks like it will be an all day affair to get down 8 oz. Anyway...just wanted to check in. Thanks for all the support! It really heps knowing you all are around

    Few days out

I would recommend not getting on the scale. I did today and I am up 3 pounds I know I am really swollen so I am fine, but better not to subject yourself to that. Wait a week. I am struggling to figure out what works for me. Discovered the pepcid is huge. Doc is recommending I take Maalox in between because it seems to wear off after 7 hours and I can only take it every 12 hours. I am taking liquid Tylenol with codine, but I think I am going to switch to regular liquid tylenol tomorrow and see how I manage. The codeine makes you constipated and I have seen no action since Wednesday so I think I might be headed in that direction. Not good :biggrin0: it is great to hear I am not alone. Everyone says how "wonderful" they feel after surgery. I am guessing they are not talking about the first couple of days because this has not been wonderful. I feel so unprepared.

    Few days out

I am having a hard time chocking down anything and am totally NOT hungry. My concern right now is fluids and pain medicine. It takes me 30 minutes to chock down the pain medicine and then I sip on my protein shake which I make with water. I finally slept for 4 hours so I need to make up some drinking. I am worried about dehydration. I can't believe you guys able to eat anything with texture. I wish. I must be more swollen then most.

    Few days out

I relate to everything you are all saying. I had surgery Wed and came home yesterday. I was unprepared for the intense pain. I generally have a pretty high tolerance to pain, but this has brought me to tears. It takes me FOREVER to get anything down. I am going to try a Protein shake today, but I am not looking forward to it. I spent 40 minutes getting down 2 ml of liquid tylenol. I tried to take a spponful of applesauce last night and it felt like a bolder going down. Anyone else having a had time getting anything down?

  23. Welcome Becca and Shannon! Well, tomorrow is the day for me. I am excited and a little nervous. My husband and I are driving down tonight and staying at a hotel so I will be close by tomorrow since I live in Santa Rosa. I have so much to get done that I know the day is going to fly by. Wish me luck! :001_smile:
