    How Many Calories?

Every doctor is different most will have you do between 600-800 around this stage I was unable to get in more then 600 myself... Now almost 9 months out I cycle between 800-1200 a day.

    Losing weight before surgery

I lost 200 lbs prior to surgery you should've heard all the people around me why don't you keep doing what your doing.... why would you have surgery you can keep losing it I know you can etc etc etc and for a few moments I believed it but here's the kicker at 13 I was 306 lbs at 19 I was 400+ and then got up over 500 lbs for a few years... during that time I bounced up and down yo-yo should've been my nickname.... I was always a great loser... lost 115 lbs in 2007 but I was never a good keeper offer... I do not for one minute think this is the easy way out as i've made many changes and I proved that by losing 200 lbs beforehand... I look at the surgery as the cement that will keep all of my efforts together kind of like a wall that will never let me go back to where I was before I know I needed it and I also knew I was getting it and that fueled the fire for me to have one last good run at losing weight on my own... You have been very successful on your own and that's great, think of the sleeve as the reward for all your success... also realize as my doctor told me you made the surgery easier for yourself and also easier for the doctor as your liver is probably in great shape.... Congratulations!!!
  3. It's not necessarily about feeling full... We have all become accustome to this feeling Do you feel hungry at all? or do you just have the urge to eat? It took me a while to separate my head from my stomach, if you're not hungry then only worry about eating what you are required to eat 70 grams of Protein with limited carbs (under 40) for the first three months is the norm you should check with your doctor for sure or follow the plan that was given to you if you have one I've said it before and it's part of my old school thinking I said I don't feel full and I was dissapointed for a while when I wouldn't get this feeling because I was so used to it. You have to change your perspective to think wow i'm really not hungry... I just ate 3 or 4 ounces of tilapia and i'm not hungry at all Hope this helps Congratulations on your weight loss so far!!!

    Tips for Success

wow how comprehensive and inspirational.... I needed this and especially like the don't just do it because you can attitude I think this has gotten me in trouble. My 3 rules that have worked are Protein first and foremost, Water, and exercise Obviously support, Vitamins and many other things are important but if you're getting in your protein and water there won't be room for anything else... Exercise will help break through a stall keep the weight loss moving, help with your excess skin, and make you feel better.

    When Can I have COFFEE!!!

I drink a lot of coffee both caff and decaff haven't had much problems but sometimes wonder if it's slowing me down. I only put milk or skim milk in it but either way that's 12 grams a cup and i'm drinking several cups a day, granted I don't use a cup of milk in each coffee. I get in at least 72-96 ozs of Water as well. It bothered me a bit in the beginning and caused acid reflux so I stopped and started again at 4 weeks, from that point on it has been fine.
  7. Premade I always drink atkins, if i'm buying powder it's EAS I just picked up a 12 packs at Sams club last week i'm finally ready to start drinking them again after 8 months. I used them a lot preop and then part of my plan call for these shakes for a total of 6 weeks (2 weeks prior, and 4 weeks after) to some extent.

    Sleeping on Stomach

I am highly pain tolerant and took no meds for pain but I am a stomach sleeper and there was some discomfort so the first week only I took pain pills to sleep on my stomach. After that I was fine and I didn't take any more pills. As far as pureed, my nutritionist and doctor never ever said we had to do it. They said take small bites and chew and you will be alright but check with your program to see if this is ok. I would have slow cooked chicken in broth often, it was tender dark meat kind of fell off the bone, you could add some sauce to it but no need to puree. I never once pureed anything just ate slow small bites and chewed well.

    Almost a Year Has Passed

wow this is all so great to hear, I too felt the energy drain and i'm feeling it again guess my bloodwork came back and I may be anemic now. I have to go see a specialist at the end of the month. I exercise like crazy and love it. Thanks for posting this it's great to hear from others further down the road. Congratulations on all your success!
  10. I was on liquids for 2 weeks after... The whole no veggies till 2 months, no fruit till 3 months is actually rather normal... My diet called for nothing but Protein for the first 3 months or at least protein intensive foods Beans would be one that was included even though there's carbs in them.

    constipation post surgery

The first couple weeks for me where the other way but once I added food I had horrible problems I was doing milk of magnesia 3 times a week, I still do it about once a week as i'm sure i'm not getting enough fiber in as I focus on Protein. This is what my doctor recommended and it has worked for me. I would check with your office or nutritionist to see what they recommend. Also if you go with a laxative i'd start with a smaller dose in the beginning and if it don't work up it. I know someone who took it and spent the whole next day running back and forth, you don't want to go from one extreme to the other.

How do you tell when you're full?

In the beginning you have to measure that is pretty much the only way, not to mention you don't really want to feel full... You shouldn't really be hungry so it's something you have to train your mind on after years of eating whatever whenever and getting stuffed it took a while for me to figure it out. I eat to live now but don't live to eat so i'll take in my portion of Protein and then maybe a few bites of something else. Eating slow is also important because with the sleeve you can go from feeling fine to being in pain or getting sick in one mouthful of food. I have actually spit out mouthfuls of food mid chew because I got that feeling and new the next bite would make me sick.
  14. First of all It looks like you're doing great!!! With a BMI of 28.9 you probably don't have too much more to lose or at least losing will be slower as your body does have less to relent. One thing you can try if you haven't already is calorie cycling, figure out your total weekly calories divide by 7 raise 2 days up to 1000 or 1200 calories and then average out the rest. Sometimes are body can fight the urge to lose and try really hard to hold onto the calories. The other trick is try a week of low carbs 40 grams or less a day. Good Luck!
  15. If your doctor allows gum and if you're a gum chewer I find that popping a piece of hydrating gum after a meal helps that dry mouth feeling, just don't swallow it lol

Before and After pic 7 months out

    congratulations on your success WTG!
  18. Used2b575lbs

    I just realized.

for weeks, I'd say about 8 weeks total cottage cheese was my savior, it was the only thing that would go down easy from a Protein standpoint, you'll get there for the first two weeks I had a horrible time with my protein shakes. I remember one time taking 90 minutes to get down 4 ozs of shake.

    GUM

Never heard of that, the reason my surgeon told me was because if you swallow it even accidentally and it gets stuck you will need a surgery to remove it. I started out early and had terrible pains from the air that it added to my sleeve but I tried again at about 6 weeks and i've been chewing a lot since. It helps with keeping my mouth busy, and keeping my breath fresh as I drink lots of coffee caff/decaf
  20. Used2b575lbs

    I just realized.

my two week pre op was 2 shakes and a salad with Protein 3 days presurgery all clear liquid 2 weeks post surgery liquid only Protein Shakes Water Jello etc weeks 3 and 4 2 shakes and one mushies meal 6 weeks of mostly protein shakes, it took me almost 8 months to touch another shake I've had 2 in the past couple of weeks
  21. It took about 2-3 weeks for me, I was on all protein shakes and water for the first two weeks and lets just say I couldn't stray too far from a bathroom and had many close calls but it will pass.

    I weigh 400 lbs...will this help me?

I was 575 lbs, couldn't breathe, could hardly move, felt hopeless, I didn't want to diet only to fail again and end up weighing 600+ lbs... I was immobile for the most part walking was hard, getting dressed was hard, it took me several minutes to get off the floor. I started my own pre-op diet I have always been extremely successful at losing the weight but this time the sleeve was going to be my savior my hero... I started and hit several snags in the process due to local hospitals not supporting my size, a new job, and 3 appeals with Cigna but I made it. I was sleeved at 375 lbs, I lost 200 lbs on my pre op diet because I knew it would be the last "diet" I would ever be doing... The sleeve was great I now weigh around 260 lbs and can still lose as long as I do what's right I can run I barely sweat, it takes a lot for me to get winded, i'm sleeping better and i'm having the best sex of my life!!!
