  1. I still take my Vitamins because I am still predominately eating Proteins and I know i'm not intaking anywhere near the amounts of fruits and vegetables I used to eat. Also Calcium for my bones. My labs are also good and I do get a monthly B12 shot. I know that sometimes it takes weeks to months for deficiencies to show up and once they do it will take just as long for the levels to come back to normal.

Even healthy people take Vitamins so I will continue to do so...

  2. I have always been big and i'm approaching a goal that seemed so far away 22 months ago and now i'm wondering how much more do I lose? How much more can I lose? and How much more should I lose?

Has anyone else dealt with this problem, I mean at this point it's a great problem to have but it definitely weighs on my mind...

I was 306 lbs at the age of 13 I went on WW and got down to 245 the lightest I have been since I was 12 years old... This past Saturday I weighed in at 248 lbs just a few pounds to one of my huge goals, so it got me thinking hard about what do I do now....

I lost 200 lbs prior to surgery and have lost 127 lbs since last July... last week I lost 2 lbs the week before 4 lbs, I am 6'1" have a large frame and have been doing weight training so I am somewhat muscular...

I do plan on getting cosmetic surgery and while I don't know the exact figures I believe I heard somewhere that this will remove another 20-30 lbs of skin and fat. Being that I was once 575 lbs I don't find this hard to believe, plus I see it in my abdomen and thighs

Just wondering if I should switch my mindset or do I just keep losing and losing...

My BMI according to the standard BMI calculator is still obese but I don't know how much I should trust that based on three factors... I have a large frame, I am somewhat muscular, and I have a lot of excess skin.

I did set my ticket up so that my goal would be to no longer be overweight by the standard BMI calculation if that's the case I should try and lose 59 more lbs but I don't know that seems like a lot.

Thanks in advance for any replies

  3. your welcome, just saying while this is the greatest thing i've ever done for myself that you must set realistic expectations, and there may be times your not doing as well as you'd like but if you focus on trying to do the best in the long run and doing what's right you'll eventually get to where you want to be!

  4. I have been on and off here for a bit now, I have crossed the 9 month point and am approaching my one year mark....

For me it's a wild ride especially at the scales I had another great week and lost 10 lbs but the two week previous I gained 5 lbs total and I looked at my weigh in records as I attend weekly meetings with weigh ins on Saturday and since the beginning of December (5 months) I have lost 33 lbs, that's the good news.

Out of those months i've weighed in 19 times (8 times I gained, 1 was exactly the same, and 10 times I lost)

The reason I decided to post this topic is because if you pay attention to any one weigh in, or set of weigh ins you may get discouraged. Stalls can be disheartening and so can gains. You must stick with it and keep working to do what you're supposed too!!!

The weight will come off but the body acts in funny ways I gain 2, gain 3, and lose 10, I gained 3 lbs over 7 weeks then lost 8, etc etc etc

Now I know some of this is my own doing as i'm not always 100% on point with my nutrition but I also know that some is my body just trying to slow down the weightloss.

My point is don't get caught up on the slow losses, the stalls, and the short term gains, if you do what you're supposed to do often enough it will come off.

I have now lost 124 lbs since the surgery and 324 lbs overall, of course my body and my mind go on weightloss vacation occasionally and I may lose some battles but ultimately I will win the war.

    Good luck!

  5. Hi! I am from the Middletown area of upstate New York. I am scheduled for surgery on June 6th. There is NO One in my support group that has been or is going to be sleeved. They are all bands or bypasses. I would really like to have supportive chit chat with some one close by. Anyone out there?

I am from Middletown, got sleeved in Westchester by Dr. Kaul July 12, 2010... Greatest decision ever... Feel free to send me a private message on here if you'd like

  6. I'm over 9 months out and while I know I still have some weight to lose, I am also dealing with this same situation. I have been kind of living life the past 3 months and some days doing what i'm supposed to and others not.

I was very heavy when I started so if this is where I stay I would be ok with that especially because I know I have lots of excess skin that will eventually come off. I'd like to lose 20-30 more lbs but i'm not going to stress about it, I have a big build and a decent amount of muscle so I don't really believe that the standard number is my true BMI

What I don't want to do is lose too much weight to the point where I then gain weight at the end... I just want to get to that point where I can comfortably maintain

  7. Some of these calculations and statements are funny but I will say theres a definite difference and it's all for the better...

I've lost almost 320 lbs and it definitely has helped in this area tremendously

  8. Depending on how much you have to lose and how closely you follow the doctors plan as well as how willing your body is to relent the weight you can expect a weight loss variance.

I asked my doctor when I had surgery and he said the first month that I would lose a lot and I did about 50 lbs then he said about 10-15 lbs a month, after 6 months I stalled for 7 weeks actually gaining 2 lbs in that time and since then i've lost another 12...

You should set your only goals but I think reasonably you could lose

    1st month 17 lbs

    Months 2-3 25-30 lbs

    Months 4-6 25-30 lbs

    Months 6-9 25-30 lbs

You could also stall at any time and you can also blow those goals out of the Water but I know it's important to have mini goals and something to strive for in the short and long term good luck!!!

  9. No regrets but I will tell you it will take you for a loop

The first week or two are no picnic...

If you eat too much or too fast the sleeve will remind you of its purpose and you will get sick

In your head if it is not on correctly or comes loose you may order, cook, or take way more food than you can eat in a day and put it on your plate at a meal only to realize you can only eat a few bites and you're done

It's not a regret but rather a mental change as a matter of fact many mental changes that you have to deal with after the surgery

You don't have to never ever have anything again at least according to my doctor with the exception of tiny bubbles (co2) beer, soda, champagne....

But what you can't ever do again is eat like there's no tomorrow, it's just not possible you must breakup with food in large quantities and for a while with most doctors plans you must stay away from anything that is not primarily Protein.

Follow your doctors/nutritionists plan, stay dilligent until you reach goal (not saying 100% many of us slipped up here and there but most of the time) still working that way myself and you will love your sleeve just like the rest of us.

    Good Luck!!!

  10. I come on a few days a week and post often on those days, today is one of those days... The day you posted this was not...

Most people hit upon it but it always goes back to 1) Protein 2) Water 3) Exercise for me...

I will tell you stalls are your bodies response to weight loss the more you lose and the long you do it the more you stall

Stalls are one of the most common threads here

You can do many things to try to break a stall but if your body is not ready to relent the weight it may not

    Some common stall busters include

Low carbs - 40 grams a day or less

    Calorie cycling - 600-800 2 days 1000-1200 1 day repeat

Eating 4-6 smaller meals throughout the day

Increasing your physical activity and working in intervals walk a lap, run a lap or walk 5 minutes run 1 minute etc....

    Carb cycling 40, 40, 100

Eating different things, if you are used to eating the same things each day switch it up and work in some new foods

    Good luck!!!

  11. I've hit my stalls, I hit the gym 4-6 times a week, I have found a few things successful to breaking the stalls

Calorie cycling 1200-1600 one day follow by 800-1000 the next two days, repeat....

Carb cycling 100 one day then 40 or less 2-3 days sometimes even in combination with the cycle above take in 100 carb on the high calorie day, I keep my carbs and calories clean meaning Protein for the calories and fruit for the carbs no processed carbs

Finally if i'm really stalled I go to 5 or 6 smaller meals a day keeping it within my calorie and carb range

    Good luck!
