    Well I'm officially banded!

I went through it with the kids. I have a 1yr old and a 3 year old. I actually picked them both up but was told not to. It didn't hurt my recovery. (22lbs & 34lbs). The 1yr old can't get out of the crib by himself. It helped sometimes to sit on the floor and let them crawl on my lap. I could hold them that way with no problems. I just put a pillow in front of my stomach and held them on the floor. I also would lay on my side on the bed hugging a pillow and let them crawl on me. It was doable. Good luck!
  2. Oh my goodness. what a nightmare. I am so sorry this happened to you. I am also wondering why the ER doc did not take any fluid out of you. Hope you're doing better now.
  3. I got a .5cc fill a couple of weeks ago. It was my first fill since surgery. (I already had 5cc's in it from surgery though). I didn't notice any difference in restriction. I will tell you my surgeon said 2 days liquid diet, then mushies for a day or two. Maybe that might carry into your vacation a little but I'll tell you honestly I could only stomach the liquid again for a day. I jumped right back into eating solids and had no problems. Skipped the mushies. Good luck and enjoy your vacation!

What does "full" feel like for you?

I've been trying to measure my meals and then stop. Full should be "not hungry" like everyone is saying. But I noticed last week when I was just eating whatever till "full" that I had probably gone too far several times. I start to feel like the food is just hanging out in my throat and not moving. My chest hurts like I need to let a big burp but cannot. Or like heartburn. And I'll get some pain in my back and even sometimes where I imagine the band itself is on my left side. It's different than before the band. Before the band I would feel stuffed, tired, and like I needed to put on a baggy pair of pants or unbutton a button. With the band it's more like "omg i feel like i'm going to have a heart attack!" lol. Usually when I've gotten to this point it is because i'm eating too fast and/or too much. Which is wrong I know. That's why I went back to following the rules. 4oz slowly no drinking then stopping until the next meal. I might add I've dropped a few pounds since going back to doing this.
  5. Ooh thanks for sharing these. I was getting bored with my meals. They look delicious!

    5 days post op

I hope you guys are feeling better and starting to get energy. I'm still eating so little 6 weeks post op and I never feel run down like you guys. I actually have tons of energy. I start my day with a 50g protein shake. I use Isopure. I take the Centrum chewable multis and two calcium tablets. It's a veggie and chicken or some lean protien for my two meals and no snacks. Sometimes I eat the ready made tuna packs if I'm too lazy to make anything. Or I'll get a grilled chicken salad.

    I'm full!....No, I'm hungry!!!

You know I feel this way all the time. I feel like just when I think I've figured it out things change and I'm guessing again. I'm full and can't eat another bite and in an hour or two because I ate so little I'm hungry again. I'm starting to think I'm just eating too fast. That it's backing up on it's way down. But then moves through and I'm hungry. I have had 1 fill that I remember (1 after surgery I don't) and 5.5cc's in my band. My next fill isn't until mid May. Hope to figure things out because I'm so confused about whether I need a fill or not.

    isopure

I have 3 big containers of the powdered Isopure from GNC. Vanilla, Chocolate, and Banana cream. I like the Vanilla and Chocolate ok. They tasted better than some other protein shake mixes I've tried. They are not over sweet. Good for mixing but I can't say that I "love" them. I usually mix some frozen fruit with the vanilla or a sf coffee mix with the chocolate. I also throw in sf vanilla flavoring sometimes. And I like it blended in a bullet type personal blender. I like they are low carb and 50g of protein. So that's out of the way with one shake. But still I do not look forward really to drinking them every day. Would like to find something better tasting. But they are "ok". Do the trick. That kind of thing.

    5 days post op

Hmmm, I wasn't tired like that. As a matter of fact 3 days after my surgery I was taking care of my 1.5yr old and 3yr old by myself all day. They are pretty high strung and although I was still in some pain I was able to manage. Are you getting your Protein shakes in? Vitamins? Lots of Water? I don't think working out sounds right yet especially since you're so tired. Walking of course is ok but if you're that tired I'm surprised you want to do any exercise. ps. also had a hiatal hernia repaired.
  10. 2wk low carb high protein diet consisting of 2 protein shakes & one small meal (protein plus veggie & fruit) and I lost 9lbs. I did not gain any of that back. My surgery was 3/4/11 and I am down 26lbs. Good luck!

    Who are you??

My daughter told me she was going to live at home and commute too. Second semester of college she moved into the dorm. So don't give up hope! Mine is coming back for the summer. I miss her when she's gone. I wish she would just commute like she said she was going to!

    Who are you??

Btw Cheri, You look amazing! I would have never guessed you were 50 by your profile pic! And do you really only have 3.8cc's in your band? Is that your highest amount and you lost 84lbs?

    Who are you??

Hi my name is Candice. I live in Houston Texas. It is one of the coolest states ever! I'm from Indiana/Illinois though. My parents were military and so was I so I've lived in a lot of different places. That's a different story though. I am 41yrs old and I have 3 amazing children. A 19 year old daughter in her first year of college, a 3yr old daughter, and a 1.5year old son. I just adore my babies. I am currently a stay at home mommy to the two youngest but wasn't fortunate enough to be one with my oldest. I have been a stay at home mommy for 3 years. Other than that I have worked hard all my life so I got to be both sides....stay at home and working mom. Let see... pets... I have a pitt bull and a cat. I love them and everything but after they are gone I don't think I will have more. They are a lot of extra work with little ones to take care of. I got banded about 5 weeks ago. After dieting for almost 30 yrs (started drinking diet coke when I was 11) and failing I had given up on ever being thin. Hopefully this will work for me and I will get to live the second half of my life as a thin person! Nice meeting everyone. Best of luck to you all!
  14. I was banded @ True Results in Houston also. Dr. Ken Hollis did mine though. Everyone was so nice before and after the surgery. It's always a pleasant experience. My only complaint is I have to wait sometimes so long to get seen. But that seems to be at most doctors now a day.

    Second guessing myself!!

Loved reading this post. Such inspiration. And yes, I also second guessed myself all the way into the operating room. No regrets.

    First Fill 3ccs?

I got a 5cc fill in my band an hour after surgery. And then another .5cc's 4 weeks later. Every surgeon is definitely different.

    Help, I'm scared!

Hi Kovi. Sounds like you have been through quite a lot. I am sorry for your loss. I am not sure if what I say will help or not. I am newly banded. I know there are a lot of scary stories on here but there are also a lot of inspirational stories. I like to see the before and after pictures of the people it has worked for. I don't think the weight is suppose to just fall off. I think there are points from what I have read where you lost a bunch but then there are plateaus. And it seems until you get to the point of restriction things are a little harder. My experience has been that I lost 25lbs pre/post op in a matter of 3.5-4wks. I've just kind of been hanging out here since then. I'm not hungry but I am able to eat more than I think that I should be able to once I have restriction. I'm not there yet. I've only had 1 fill. So I just try to keep doing what I should be doing, battling the head hunger, and hoping the scale will go down. When I first got on these message boards I read several posts about flipped ports. I was worried sick for weeks about my own port. I couldn't find it and I was not able to keep to my weight restriction of 20lbs. I have a 1.5yr old and a 3yr old that weigh between 24-32lbs. I lifted them and lifted them and was in quite a bit of pain around the port area. I just knew I had flipped my port and had already braced myself for needed a port revision. Then I went in for my 4 week checkup and there it was. Nice and secure and hidden nicely where I couldn't even feel it. What relief. I made the decision to have the lap band surgery because nothing else I ever tried worked. I'm hoping this will. I know that it has given me the hope and desire to try again at least. I had definitely given up. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
  18. Congratulations and thanks for posting this. I needed some encouragement. I was having that "this is never going to work" feeling today. I'll hang in there.

    Skechers Vs Reebok

I think you just have to try them on and see which feel better for you. I have a pair of Reebok Easy Tone running shoes and I love them. They are the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn. I feel like I'm bouncing around in them. I have a friend here that said she tried a pair a couple of years ago and they cut into her big toe really bad so she couldn't wear them. I don't know if the running shoes are different or the same ones she had but I just got mine so they are the most current design. Good luck on your decision.

    Not to Tell?

That would stink to have to hide your surgery. I needed so much help from my husband and kids the first few days/weeks. I hope you can get the support you need from your friend. Best of luck to you!

My stomach just Growled really loud

My stomach growls a lot too and I'm not hungry! What a weird sensation. Definitely feel like something weird is going on in there. And sometimes it seems like it's growling on the opposite side of my body from my stomach! Crazy. Not sure what the heck is up with that.

    Any Non Scale Victories?

I have a funny NSV, or it may be TMI but I'll share it anyway. When I sit in the toilet, my belly no longer blocks my view into it. LOL I was also banded in March. I have some of the same as you all: 1. No longer drink diet coke like it's Water. Replaced with water & ice tea. 2. My clothes that I could barely fasten and that left me with a gigantic muffin top, now are loose and comfy. 3. Bought a couple new workout pants and had to go down to a size "L" instead of the "XL" i've been wearing for as long as I can remember. 4. I have a ton of energy and go on multiple playdates and outings a day with my two small children (1yrs & 3yrs). 5. When I went back to the gym for the first time since surgery, I was able to type my weight into the elliptical program and it began with a "1..". I'm sure there's more. I'm just a really much happier person in general! Congratulations to all of you on your NSV's as well!!

    is this hunger?

Sometimes I feel like a really loud growl and think my stomach is growling but then I'm not hungry at all. It's a weird sensation. I am thinking maybe like the previous poster said it might be my stomach emptying into the lower part or gas or something. I'm still figuring things out myself!

    Protein Shakes

I tried the strawberry one as well. I thought it tasted like Nestle quick strawberry and I really liked it!
