  1. Unfortunately, I was the same way. need to lose about 80 lbs. I am going with self pay as well. I have joint pain, but wasnt sure if that would fly or not and didnt want to do the waiting game any longer. I am 44 and need to get this going to start living a new life while I can enjoy it Good luck! its a bummer when they say your not heavy enough (how stupid is that)
  2. I know it works because a lady I know has lost 75 pounds in the last year that had the surgery through the same doctor. I should speak with her to see how she did in the first couple of weeks. Sometimes these forums are so confusing when you get so many people doing so many different things.
  3. I dont get the easy way out. like you said... what part this is easy. I haven't banded yet, but still know that this is not going to be easy. I am going to have to work at it like with any other life change that I want to make. The only difference will be that I will have the band as a reminder that I need to eat smaller portions. Im so glad that I never cared what other people think. The only people that I want to impress is my family and they can't wait to have me back to the way I use to be. All the other people can kiss my new little behind, when it gets little that is. hehe
  4. So I started back on my diet on Monday. What ever I need on Sunday didnt do to much damage, because I am down 4 pounds this morning. I was kinda doing low carb protein shakes, with some chicken thrown in there to get some substance. I also had a suger free jello last night. 16 days and counting to surgery!
  5. When I was reading over my notebook that I got from my Pre-op Surgery Class, it says that I will only be on liquids for the first week after surgery and then to limited mushies for the second week and then soft foods on the 3rd week and then regular foods starting the 4th week. Does that sound right? I have been reading other posts and websites and it seems like a lot of people are doing shakes for the 1st three weeks and dont get to solids until week 6. Do you think it is more beneficial loss wise to do the shakes for longer? I wont get a fill until week 6. Will I be able to lose doing it my doctor's way?
  6. Funny! I felt the same way today. I dont really need to do a pre-diet, but wanted to start one anyway. I started today with Protein Shakes and no carb things like chicken and cheese in a lettuce wrap. I am going to work my way to doing all Protein shakes about 10 days to the surgery. We will see how it goes. I put some timers on my phone for every three hours and am trying to eat at those times only. I am also trying to eat only 4 oz at a time except for the protein shakes, which i think are 8 oz. The nutritionist said that we should be trying to eat less because right after the surgery you will only be able to eat about 2-3 oz at a time and then gradually build up. Its soooo hard sometimes...
  7. My doctor said that he would like to see me at 160, im 5'71/2" (I think I shrunk and inch i used to be 5'8") But he would be ok with me at 152 or so. I would love to get down to a size 8. I think that will be my goal. Some people are posting their sizes that they are right now and I saw someone that was a size 12 and they were 5'7" and weighed 193. They must be really small on the bottom. When I weighed in the 190's I was a size 14-16, but I tend to be kinda heavy in the thighs. I am at 12-14 at 180 and 10-12 at 160. Or was in the past anyway. Wonder what it will be now?? I am hoping that 150 or so will put me at an 8-10 depending on the clothes. I will be extremely happy with a 10 though
  8. Mine has been kinda like that also. You can see all of my stuff that I have done down below and I have done this all the month of march. It will be a little over a month when all is said and done. It might be that you are fairly healthy and are not a high risk for surgery is why you havent had as many tests as everyone. That is the way I am. I dont really have any problems other than my joints. I would talk to them more about support though. That seems to be a big help during the weight loss phase. You will want to get all the support you can. I would check with the doctor or nurse and see if they have someone available that will mentor you. I am going to be working with a friend of mine that went through this a year ago. I am not a big worrier, so I am just going with the flow. My doctor's success rate (as far as fatalities) is very very good. Make sure that you have researched the doctor and check his stats for his surgeries. Good Luck,.
  9. I was just curious. It seems that people lose weight in their faces first. I wonder how much your face weighs. Also was wondering how much my "girls" weigh. They seem to weigh a ton because my back always hurts.
  10. When I did the slim for life diet, they had some really good shakes that tastes like crystal lite and they had high protein and low carbs. You can buy them on the internet at Nashua Nutrition. I am going to get those for when I am ready for the shake stage. They are the only ones that I have found that don't taste gritty and like a protein shake. They also have other items like soups.
  11. So my doctor did not say anything about starting a diet, but in the paperwork it said that you should consider start to limit things and practice chewing your food good to get ready for after the band. I really wanted to get a head start and do a two week diet anyway so that it would be less to lose afterwards. So I was going to start yesterday and did really good until hubby wanted to go see a movie. Then I ate popcorn. Uggg. And then my son's birthday is today and he wants ribs. Uggg. So now I will start tomorrow and stick with it until the surgery. So that will be 18 days. That should get 10-14 lbs. Hopefully! I know that there will be special occations (birthdays, holidays) that we have to contend with, but why can't I make it past the popcorn at a movie. My only hope is that my band does not like popcorn at all and I won't be able to eat it. I its a no-no, but I hope the band will tell me so. By the way, do you put your weight from your scale or your doctor's scale? I am always about 4-5 lbs off from them. I dont know what to put on my ticker. I will only go to the doctor every 3 months after my two week appt, unless they weigh me at the fills, which are every 6 weeks I think.
  12. If you have insurance, I made a physical and had them do it there and just gave them a list of what was needed by my surgeon. Hopefully this works. I am self pay also. I did the pulmonary (spell) test also with my physical. We will see if it works. I am going to submit my psych eval to the insurance to. Might as well see what they will pay for. Anything will help, right?
  13. Gosh, i thought she would never leave... Kept on digging herself deeper didnt she?
  14. Why would you even join a site (today) that is for people that WANT to get lap band just to tell us that you dont want to get lap band. That is so stupid. Did you think you would be accepted with open arms. Not very likely. Most everyone on here has done so much research, we could probably do the surgery ourselves. So I would suggest not posting here anymore if you do not intend on getting the lap band and leaving this site for people that looking for support.
  15. Met with the Doctor yesterday and he gave me my surgery date. Which will be April 14th. I cant wait. It is going very fast now. Went for my pre-op class last night and need to schedule my nutrition class and some other thing before the 14th. Crazy...
  16. Thats great Luke! I just got my date yesterday as well, which will be April 14th. I really dont need to start a liquid diet, but I am thinking I might. Get off to a good start. Good luck to you!
  17. Just found out that my surgery will be April 14th. Cant wait. Only 3 weeks. Lots to do before then.
  18. When I was doing Slim 4 Life, they had these really good Protein drinks and other things like Soups, that were good and had lots of protein and low carbs. They are by Nashua Nutrition. They 60 calories, 1 carb, 12 grams of protein and 0 fat. They are really good and taste kinda like crystal lite. I havent started the diet yet, but I intend to ask my doctor if these are ok for protein. Just because I know that I like them. Good luck.
  19. MollyRN, I liked your blog. Very helpful! Im so excited to start this. I have my appt with pcp on tuesday and the appt with the surgeon in wednesday, so I am hopeful that he might give me a surgery date then. Thanks for the information!
  20. Oh, Cool. Thanks for the help. I can make that my first goal
  21. Keep seeing this Onederland on some posts. What does it mean? Sorry if its a silly question...
  22. What made you and your band successful?
  23. OMG, I cant believe he would say that, what a butthead. My lady was really nice. She said I passed Now only a week till my appt with the doc. How did you handle the waiting. Ive decided i am a very impatient person.
  24. Going for my Psych eval tomorrow. Hope I pass and i'm not to crazy. Then its one week till my 1st appt with doctor. The waiting is awful!
  25. Thanks for all the advise. I cant wait, its 10 days now. I scheduled my phych eval and i am going to try to schedule my blood work also before I go in and that way he knows how serious I am. The waiting stinks. But I know this is the only the first step of the wait. Has anyone got a surgery date at the first visit before? That would be great!!!
