Still not Hungry
I was banded on Thursday the 14th, and I am still not hungry at all. I have to make myself eat my Protein shakes. Is this normal? I am having either alot of gas or restriction still. Sometimes it feels like I just need to burb, but it also feels like i wouldnt be able to fit anything down there even if I wanted to eat something. I remember hearing the doctor say that I wouldnt be hungry for the first three weeks, but I didnt think It would be like no hunger what so ever. I wonder if it is restriction or gas?!? My goal today is to hit 60 grams of protein, which I am hoping will help with my laziness the last four days. Good thing is that I have lost 10 lbs since the surgery day. (i know, i wasnt suppose to weight myself) Bad girl. I have been getting in about two Protein Shakes per day for about 30 grams the last few days, which I know is not good.

Day 4, incisions dont hurt but port area does
My incisions do not hurt anymore really, but the port area stings a lot sometimes. I am trying to do laundry (being very carefull with my bending) and It really stung for a couple of minutes. The doctor said that it is really hard to flip with the way he atatches it. He uses somekind of velcro stuff. Unfortunately there are somethings that I have to get done. Laundry is one them.

Is this common?
I am having the same problem getting my protein in (banded 14th). I am trying to drink water through out the day and get 1/2 shake in 4 times a day. I only have to do this till wednesday and then I am on mushies, cant even imagine that I will want to eat anytime soon. Doctor said that I wouldnt feel hungry for the first three weeks. But I think i need to tell my stomach that because it is really mad at me and is growling at me constantly. It is really pissed off right lol

Has anyone done slim4life with the band?
thanks Lena, I had surgery on Thursday. Feeling ok. I seem to have gas in my chest that makes me really want to burg, but I cant. Its funny how I am still not hungery after three days. I am having a hard time getting all my Protein, although doing a little better today. I might hit 45 today. I did slim 4 life awhile back and you can lose 3-5 lbs per week if you follow the plan. I have to go and find it. Its mostly protein, then veggies, then 2 servings of bread and 2 serving of fruit. I need to find it so that I can see if its possible getting that much food down. I will let you know if I find it. Thanks for the encouragment. I still cant beleive I did it.

Finally Banded on Thursday
Had my surgery on the 14th and just now feeling a little better. Pretty much slept since thursday. Had a really hard time getting in all my fluids yesterday. But today I am going to really work at. I know if I dont get in the Protein I am going to feel weak. Having alot of gas in my chest, but none in my shoulders like some have mentioned before. Doctor said to use Mylanta, so I will see how that works today. Also, I wasnt suppose to get on the scale but I did and lost about 3 lbs since thursday. I know I was bad but couldnt help my self.

Thanks to whoever suggested the heating pad for gas!
Oh my, I will have to try this. I was just banded on Thurday and my chest is hurting so bad from the gas. I think I would feel ok, if it wasnt for that. Trying not to take the pain medicine today and only tylonol. The other stuff just makes me drowsy and have blurried vision. thanks for suggestion!

When did you start to feel better?
I was just banded on Thursday. Thought I was going to have to stay the night, because I was having such a hard time waking up from anstesia and then I didnt ask for pain medicine when I should have and had a little panic attack when I started hurting alot. Yesterday was pretty painful as well. Mostly in my chest like I had to burp, but can't. So I guess it isnt better if you burp or not. I went for two little walks yesterday just down the block. That seemed to have helped. I hope you are feeling better soon.

hot & spicy soup on liquid diet
Just wondering if we can have hot & spicy soup or egg drop soup on the liquid diet? As long as we only eat the broth part is that OK? The chicken broth might get kinda old after a few days

Has anyone done slim4life with the band?
Just wondering if anyone has done slim4life after you were banded. I did it last year and it worked good, but couldnt deal with all the pills. But the diet that my doctor is going to have me on afterwards seems alot like the slim4life diet. Lots of protein and some vegies.

Feel like crap
I felt the same way. Stopped Diet Soda on Saturday and had a headache for three straight days. Today is the first day that it hasnt hurt. It was awful. Tomorrow is my clear liquid diet and then nothing after that until surgery. Had my last meal tonight. toast, eggs and hashbrowns. So badddd.!

Thursday is My Day!
So my big day is so very soon. I am excited but not looking forward to the recovery. I am not the type of person that can lay around, so I need to be careful not to do to much. I already have too much scheduled for this weekend. I have a crop nite to go to for my scrapbooking club (which I need to go to because I get a free scrapbook this month) lol. I also have a wedding shower to go to for one of my employees. And then her wedding the week after. So hopefully I can get at least hour into each of those. We will see. I do have a question. Can you do cream Soups on the liquid diet (like tomato or pea)? Or should those be saved for the mushies stage? I guess I can ask in the hospital on thursday, but am trying to get everything I need before hand. Wish me luck!!

Second guessing myself!!
I just posted my second thoughts post on Tuesday. So I am right there with you. Mine was mostly about the money part as I am a self pay. But I went to the pre-op appt and gave them my money and am ready for my new life to begin in one week from today. My surgery is at 10:30, so I will be waking up from my sleep right about now. Strange thought.... To be silly, I went out and bought a cute little pair of capri's (from walmart) just one size down to get myself motivated a little. I am hoping to be in those by June 1. And then to watch them get bagier and bagier though out the summer. And maybe by the end of middle to end of summer I will be in a new size altogether. Not sure were my sizes are going to fall now because it has been 20 years since I have been in smaller sizes (less than 14). My body might have changed in my old age and is totally different now. I am going to be 45 this year, so cant see myself getting any body work done at this point, so everything is going to have to be good enough for me when the weight comes off.

Another one having second thoughts...
OK! I did it. I had my pre-op appt at the hospital yesterday and handed over a whole bunch of money. So there is no backing out now. One week from today I will be banded and starting my new journey. I really can't wait. I think I just got a little freaked out by actually handing over that much money at once. Kinda scary. But I know it will be worth it. To Celebrate I bought a cute pair of capri's at walmart that were on sale a size smaller than I am now. Didnt want to go to overboard and go a couple of sizes. That way I will probably be able to wear them most of the summer (maybe not ). If not, then they were only $10. Thanks for all the encouraging words, I needed them. The good news is that I was down 6 pounds from my first weigh in there. So maybe I can drop some more before next week before they fill me up with all those lovely fluids.

Another one having second thoughts...
So I have read enough posts of people who have second thoughts. Until now I thought they were crazy because I was so excited to get the lap band. I am not nervous about the surgery. Seems relatively easy procedure. I am self pay and having second thoughts I shelling out 10,000 for the surgery. God I hope this works. The one thing that I am concerned about is that I tend to be a grazer. I am not a volume eater or a late night eater. I just eat through out the day without thinking about it. So I am wondering how this is going to help me. I am definately going to have to change the that aspect of my life and only eat every three hours and not graze. God I hope this works. I have my pre-op appt tomorrow and have to give them the money.

HELLO FROM COLORADO
Hello Smile, I am also from Colorado and am having my LapBand from Dr. Snyder as well on the 14th of April. How was your hospital stay? Did you need to stay overnight? They either have me scheduled at 10 or 12. I have to call next week to get the correct time. So just wondering how long total you were there? Hang in there.

Having a hard time with the lie
I have told DH and a couple of people from work. I am going to wait until afterwards to tell the rest of my family because they will all be concerned and bug me so I will just let them know after it is done. The problem I am having is that I really dont want anyone to be there with me when I have it done. My husband and I will just bug each other because he will feel helpless and I will feel like I can do everything myself and shoo him away. When I am sick or something, I just want to be by myself and get over what ever I have. I think this will be the same thing. I had to go to the emergency room about a month ago for phenoia (sp) and drove myself there and left specific instructions with my co-workers not to call my husband or mother. Uggg they both showed up within the hour. I told them I was fine and to leave. All they are going to do is watch me suffer and I don't want that. Drives me crazy.... Weird I know. I wonder what the doctor will say when I tell him I am not going to have anyone there. Probably wont like it.

BMI of 37 but no morbidities = no coverage?
Mine is going to be 9600.00 in denver, colorado. Uggg not looking forward to paying it but I think it so going to be worth it.

I need to get serious
Check Yes, I know what you are saying. What I really want to do is start cutting out some of the bad things that I eat and drink. I am a really bad Diet Coke drinker (like always have one in my hand like a cigarete type person). I know that I am not going to be able to have that afterwards so I am starting to cut that out now. I am down to one the morning and one in the afternoon. Starting next week I think I will cut to decaffinated ones and then the week after that cut out all together. I WILL SO MISS MY DIET COKE The other thing that I need to get out of my system is fast food. I;ve decided I am a convenience eater. I will always eat what I can get and eat while I am doing other things. These are the two things that I am trying to work on before the surgery so it isnt such a shocker when I have the band. I think the band will help me with eating less, I just want to get used the good stuff that I need to eat to make it work. And yes, I am anxious to get going on my weight loss. I will not lie about that. You call it Bandster Hell, was it worth selling your soul (or I should say your stomach) for? LOL

Will they let me get the lap band
Kimberly, I am so excited for you. Do you have a date yet? I am doing good. My date is 4/14. I started a pre-op diet and have lost 4 lbs so far since saturday. Just kinda doing a low-carb and shake mixure type thing just to get used to eating less. Have the timer on my phone set so that I eat every 3 hours or so. That seems to be helping alot. Please let know all the details of your surgery. Yaaayyy Us....

One week post op>>>>Could this be real?
Ohhh, stop please. I am so jelous. I only have 16 more days til band day and I wish it was tomorrow. Congrats!!!!
-
Sort of got my feelings hurt...
me again I have a relatively low BMI. around 36. But I could care less what anyone says about me doing it or why I am doing it. My doctor said I would do well with it and it is my body and I am going to rock it (soon). She's just jelous because your's was cheaper and less painful. LOL JK if you are a bypass person. I really dont mean any harm.
-
Sort of got my feelings hurt...
I dont want to make anyone mad, but with the bypass you tend to lose automatically because they have taken away part of your stomach and you really cant eat that much. I know that it stretches eventually after a couple of years and then you will eat more. But you lose alot upfront. With the band you have to work alot harder because all you have is restriction, but there are tons of foods that will go through that and make it to your other part of the stomach. You have to work alot harder with the band as far as willpower. If you are obese and have trouble getting the weight off then anything you can do to take care of it and KEEP it off is a good thing, no mater if you are 30 bmi or 80 bmi. That is why they created the band isnt it, as an alternative to bybass for people that need help that may not have a really high bmi. That is why they lowered the threshold to 30 bmi per the FDA. Anyway, just ignore her. Either one that a person chooses is a choice that they make to make their life healthier. Keep up the good work.
