  1. Ive had the band for about 5-6 weeks now. Ive had 2 nights since where I drank and just stuck with wine. I did do a tequila shot once. Didnt have any issues- no vomitting, and it didn''t stall my weight loss either. So i think in moderation its fine. Just stay away from mixed drinks with added sugar!

  2. I actually feel great! I like the goal weight I think adding the Water is good - I used to drink tons of Water every day until the band now its a little harder I am sure it will get easier - OK As of surgery day I was 236 so by July 1 I would like to be at 221 so 15lbs~

looks like you're doing great!im so happy to be on mushies- its SOOO much better. And im finding i dont have much of an appetite. Not gonna weigh in for a week so hopefully ill have some good results too!!

where is everyone! come join the challenge!!!

  3. I have aetna ***- so everything had to go through my pcp. I think they required everything you could imagine for me- 6 month diet with pcp, seeing a pulmonoligst, cardiologist, gastro, nutritionist, psychiatrist, lots of tests and a sleep study. I did it all and got approved with a relatively low bmi (like 36-37). They did deny me at first but the surgeon called to fight for me and got it approved

  4. I also had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and did not feel well for a solid week. I truly thought Id be ready to go back to work a week later and there was no way! Its gonna be almost 2 weeks for me. Everyone is different, and you never know, so I would advise that if you can get 2 weeks just have them available. Ask your job if you're feeling better earlier if you can come back earlier- most places are understanding!

  5. I just got banded June 8th I would love a challange ,,, July 4th works for me .... what do you want the challange to be B)

congrats on the band! how are you feeling? Im about 9 days out and definitely feeling back to myself- so hang in there!

So pick a goal weight you'd like to hit by July 4th. So for instance, im at 223. By July 4th Id like to be 210. So my goal is 13 lbs in the 3 weeks. Granted after just being banded, your priority should be healing and not weight loss- but its still fun to have a challenge! Usually we also add things in like drinking all of your Water for the day, and exercising at least 3-5x per week (since we are both new bandsters, for us I guess light walking would be better!)

What do you think? anything you'd like to add?

  6. Hey guys! So I used to do nutrisystem a few years ago, and the best part was the challenges on the message boards. Basically its just a group of us that post often and provide support, vent, share victories, and just chat! You pick a goal for the duration of the challange (like maybe a July 4th one for now!) and post weekly weigh ins.

I just got banded on 6/2 and as Ill be moving to soft foods in a few days, I would definitely love a good challenge and some new friends! So let me know if you are interested and Ill start a new thread with it!

  7. Oh hi !! I have Dr.Gadeleta over at North Shore .It's a long drive but I really like him !!

So how are you feeling ? Tell me everything !! :)

    haha ok here we go-

I used Dr. Geiss at North Shore Syosset. So I actually had a rough time for the first 5-6 days. I think i had a reaction to the anesthesia because i was soooo nauseus in the hopsital. Also, the gas pain is the worst part. Its like you have bad heart burn everywhere and shooting pains through your back, shoulders, and mid section. But by day 4 that subsided for me. The trick is walking around and standing up so the gas can be released.

I also reacted to the Protein shakes so I had to eliminate them. I used carnation instant bfast no sugar added instead of the medifast (which was recommended), which works and tastes great. I honestly wasnt hungry AT ALL until about day 6 (crazy I know!).

I got the single incision which I am VERY happy with- looks like ill be scar free pretty much. But I did get a hematoma (blood clot) under the incision. Not nearly as bad as it sounds. I was just bleeding a lot from my belly button so I went to see the doc. He tried to drain it as best as possible and now Im on antibiotics.

The last day or 2 Ive definitely started to feel like myself. The uncomfortable weird feeling you'll have definitely goes away. As soon as you feel ready try to get outside and walk a little (in the morning before its too hot!) And definitely stay hydrated!!

If you have any specific questions def let me know, im an open book!!!

  8. I go Mon 6/13 and I am scared and excited, sick to my stomach, etc. I was not told to do a pre-op diet, should I? Today is Wed and I only have a few days left, so not sure it matters now...I really have no clue what to do today or even any other things to do to prepare.

    Any suggestions?

Be excited for your new life ahead! Although so far it hasnt been easy- still not ready to get back to work and its been a week, but i think i had a tougher time than most.

So I had to do a week of full liquids (protein shakes, Soups, ices, applesauce, etc..all low fat/fat free and low sugar/sugar free variieties) Then the day before surgery it was clear liquids only like clear fruit juices, broth, sugar free ice pops etc.. Losing 5lbs before and eating low fat before surgery will shrink the liver, making your surgery easier to perform since they have to kinda move around the liver to do it. I also lost some weight during this time, but more importantly i think it helped me get used to not eating and chewing. I also think my hunger is well controlled from the prep. So I would highly recommend doing something like that on your own. I can give you more specifics if you're interested! GOOD LUCK!

  9. Hi everyone surgery went well. I'm still tender and moving slow but I do have gas I can't seem to get rid of. I really need to burp but it won't come out. I'm also experiencing hunger I don't know what that's about.

Congrats! Im 6 days post op and I can tell you I had gas pain for 3-4 days. Im still releasing some I think. As much as you might not feel it, it really does help to walk it out. I had a pretty rough time with everything, including horrible gas pain, but pushed myself to pace around the house a bit, and it did seem to help! I also took the pain meds prescribed to help for the first 2 days.

    GOOD LUCK!!

  10. I am still tender. But all of a sudden I'm starving. Tried Protein shakes nothing is working. What is going on has anyone experienced this. I don't think I will make 10 days.

Are you staying well hydrated with Water? Sometimes as im sure you've heard, thirst is mistaken by hunger. Ive seen a few people that were pretty hungry after- maybe they can offer some other words of wisdom. I myself am 6 days post-op and just starting to feel slightly hungry at times, but its definitely controllable

  11. Hi Michelle

I have the opposite issue, I have no desire to eat anything! Regardless most people can start full liquids after 2-3 days. And as far as the shooting pains- i had them. They are due to the gas they pump you up with during the surgery that gets trapped. Just try to walk a lot and you will naturally release it.

    Best of Luck!

  12. Hi everyone,

So i got my band placed on june 3rd just last week, i flew to Mexico with my mom and we did it together, the surgery wasn't bad, i was pretty pain free for the most part. but now i am day 5 and i am hungry all the time, and when i am hungry i get a shotting pain up in my neck and shoulder, what is that about, but more so i am hungry, i would give anything to eat something besides broth and Jello, which i know something different will be coming soon, but i am just wondering was anyone else hungry alot after the surgery, also i have a lot of pain at my port site, has anyone else had that?

    Thanks

    Michelle
