  1. Thank you Everyone....I just seem to always have complications of some sort when taken into an OR.....this is mostly the reason I am having cold feet. Today I am having a goodbye party to my old life style as tomorrow I being my 7 day preop diet. Next week I will have the tool placed to help me stay on my new journey. I have done okay taking some weight off per my doctors instructions....so more will be a wonderful way to start. I am a very picky eater, so this is going to be extremely challenging for me. I am really unsure about these Protein shakes and what I read about them...If they smell or have any bad taste, there is no way I will drink them. I am going to have to find a way to get them down without any issues. Considering I am having this done 3 weeks before Easter, I am concerned abut the Easter dinner I prepare for my family. My children do not want me to cook and want to forego the holiday, but I have insisted we Celebrate as per norm for our family. By then I should be able to have mushies, so I shoulde be able to have some if not most of what I cook in very small amounts.
  2. I am the day after you....Tomorrow I start my 1 week pre-op diet.......soon it will all be over....and then its all up to me. I have the tools and I have to use them wisely....Just getting thrugh the first few days....

    Gallbladder issue

I am very nervous about having a gall baladder attack. Part of my pre-requisites was an ultra sound of my liver. They found at that time I have gall stones. I am scared to death that once I have the band and start losing weight, I am going to have a gall bladder attack. I really am unsure what to do. I certainly wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery. I will keep you in my prayers.
  4. Hi all, I really don't know how to ask this question, but my significant other is afraid to have relations after surgery because I will have a port in me. He thinks he will hurt me somehow. (men thats all they think about sometimes I think) I told him, I have read people exercise, do sit-ups, work out and are not reporting any issues. Is this something he/we should be concerned about? I feel a bit embarrassed asking this question...
  5. Hello and Welcome. I too am a long time lurker and only recently introduced myself. My surgery is set for April 6th. At first I was very excited, but now with just under 2 weeks to go...I am very very very nervous.
  6. My surgery is scheduled for April 6, 2011. Thank you everyone or your response. I will have a chat with him and hopefully settle him down. I am hoping when I see the surgeon for my pre-op visit 3/25 he tells me where the port will be placed.
  7. I started my journey 2010. I didnt get on the appointments necessary until August/September time frame because I wanted to be sure this is what I wanted to do. From the time I started all the appointments it took 7 months. I have lost 14 pounds since I went to see the surgeon in June. He required I lose 5 pounds prior to surgery. Once I lost 14 he told me not to lose anymore because the prep prior to surgery would have me lose more, so I have been holding for the last few months. I do have a preop diet, it is 7 days all liquid. I had my pre-admission testing this morning so now I am really nervous, mostly for two reasons, 1) I am a heart patient (2 heart attacks already) and 2) Anesthesia makes me vomit. I am petrified I will vomit a lot and cause my band to slip. My surgeon told me not to worry about it, however the nurse at the hospital this morning told me, she has written it down and the anesthesiologist will put something in my IV to keep that from happening. I sure hope it works. My surgery is scheduled for April 6th, only because I am traveling for work for the remainder of this month and could not put it in my own schedule, plus I need to be off medication for 10 days prior to surgery. So April 6th is my day......
  8. Can I have the name of the ebay supplier? Can these shakes be frozen or meant to be drank in liquid form? I do not have to do Protein shakes prior to surgery, but will have to after the fact....
  9. My surgery is scheduled for 4/6th. I am very anxious about it though. tomorrow I have to go for pre-admission testing, 3/25 have to go sign the papers for the surgery, 3/28 I have to stop taking my Plavix, 3/30 I begin a liquid diet for 7 days, and then 4/6th I get my band. I sure hope things go well. I am very very nervous abouth the whole thing.
  10. I had to do 2 nights, 1 to diagnose, 1 to sleep with CPAP. I made sure the day of the study to go for a nice long walk in the park in the fresh air. By the time I got there I was so darn tired, I was sound asleep within 1 minute. The doctor said to me they never witnessed someone falling into a full on dead sleep that fast in his career. LOL The wires were annoying but I sleep on my sides and did so then. I kept kicking the leg wire off in my sleep and they kept coming in to wake me to put it back on. Then I kept taking the thing on my finger off and they had to come in and put that back on. The night of the sudy with the CPAP, I continually sat up and took the mask off and threw it on the floor. I had no idea I was doing it. They had to wake me to put it back on. To this day, I take the mask off at some point in my sleep and find it behind the head board, in the bed, or on the floor running when I wake in the morning. All in all it was not that horrible.

    Waiting for approval

I have Aetna POS and my approval came within 2 days. I was told it would take up to 15 days, so I was pleasantly surprised it came that fast. I certainly wish you the very best.
  12. Hello everyone! I have been lurking the forums for the past several months and recently have joined. Yesterday I had to visit the surgeon for the 6th time as a requirment of my insurance and now sit and wait. I have no idea how long this can take, but given the amount of time I have put into this at this point, whats a few more weeks. I began this journey back in June 2010. For the first couple months after meeting with the surgeon, I did some more research and finally decided this is what I want to do. I began all the various testing in September and now have come to the end with everything now submitted to the insurance company. I cannot see any reason it would be denied given my medical issues, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, recent rise in sugar levels, now being watched for onset of Diabetes. My BMI is 37 and my cardiologist would like me to take 60 pounds off and keep it off. I have tried all the yo yo diets, but after 5 kids, quitting smoking, the weight just seems to be stubborn. I am sure this is a similar story to some of you. Seems to me when I decided to get healthy my body fought back and just piled on the pounds LOL. I do not forsee this surgery (if approved) taking place before early April at this point, because once approved, I have to be off some of my medication for 10 days prior to the surgery, not to mention trying to schedule all of this around my job. I am a single mom, work full time, and attend college full time, so making time in my schedule is going to be tricky, but it can be done. Well thats all for now...hello to all of you, and thank you so much for sharing your stories. They have been very helpful in my committing to this life style change and looking forward to a brighter future.
  13. I am so excited for you..I am also having my surgery (lap band) April 6th. I am very happy for you...and certainly wish you the very best!!!!!

    New to the forums

Hello all.... I just got the phone call from my doctor.. The insurance company has approved my surgery!! It only took them 2 days..I was shocked. I am both very excited and very scared at the same time. I guess that is normal. My surgery is schedules for April 6th because I am scheduled to travel for my job in the next couple weeks and I have to be off my Plavix for 10 days prior to surgery. Sooo it looks like April 6th will be my new birthday.
  15. CONGRATULATIONS on your new way of life. Some would say this is your new birthday!!! I wish you the very best of luck with it. Everyone on the forums will certainly be routing for you.
  16. Just a little note...Blasting Kidney stones is painless because you are put out. When you wake, it will feel as though a Mack Truck just ran through your back. Also, the blasting procedure is often done at a different location. In my case, I had to wait until it was available...because my stone was so large and had completely shut down my kidney...they had to place a stent in to open things up until I could have the blasting procedure. Kidney stones are horrid...I would rather give birth to octoplets than have a kidney stone...I get them often and the doctor keeps telling me about supplements...I told him...I cannot take a multi Vitamin because of the calcium.. There is no way on gods green earth I am going through the kidney stone issue again. I wish you the best and hope they take care of you

    Insurance Approved

That is wonderful news!!!! I am new to the site...I started this journey in June 2010. Today the doctor finally submitted all of my paperwork so now I wait for an approval from the insurance company. The lord only knows what they are going to say. I was hoping to be a March bandster but now it is more likely going to be April. The doctors office told me the insurance company has 15 days to make a decision....My guess is they take every last bit of it too. I waited this long so a few more weeks will not hurt GRATZ to everyone who received their approvals and are now on their way.
