  1. Thanks,

I saw my surgeon yesterday and she thought I was fine.

I just went thru basically the same thing as you. I was banded in 2007. I didn't need to get a fill for a year and a half. But then this past August, I had problems vomiting and it got so bad, like you I didn't want to eat for fear of having another episode. It got so bad, I finally went to my surgeon and he told me the more we vomit, the tighter our stomach gets, sorry can't remember exactly what he said but it's not good. So he took all the Fluid out which I have to be honest for me was not a good thing. I was then able to eat anything and everything and ended up gaining 18lbs. This was something I told myself I would never do, but I did!! I encourage you to go back to yr surgeon. Something is not right if she is telling you that you are fine. My dr. told me that I shouldn't have more than 2 episodes a month of vomiting and if I do, make sure I get myself back in his office. Yesterday, I got a 4cc fill and I am on Stage 1 once again. Please be careful...your very important and let the dr. know that!!! Good Luck!!:w00t:

  2. Regarding how much the fills are, you will also be paying the radiologist for the fluoroscope but to be honest it has been so long, I can't remember exactly how much and like I said before Dr. Nussbaum's staff will work with you. My insurance doesn't cover Dr. N. but he only takes what the insurance company pays. Regarding a nutritionist, call his office or you can call St. Barnabas. The hospital staff were wonderful. Good Luck!!!

  3. Dr. Nussbaum is not money hungry, he cares about us and wants us all well. I owe them at least $500 since last year, got one bill from them and they are not hounding me. I know how you feel I was out of work as well as my husband for almost a year and didn't know how I was ever going to pay my bills. They are very good, they will put you on a payment plan if you ask them and explain yr situation, they will make it as easy as possible for you. I only received that one bill, and haven't heard from them since. But I intend to pay them back as soon as I have the funds. I'm going for a fill end of July and will pay them what I can. My insurance doesn't cover Dr. Nussbaum - I have new insurance since I had the surgery. Don't worry about the money, just do this for yourself, you'll thank yourself and all those who support you that you f inally took care of #1 - yourself!! You deserve it!

the only thing you will be responsible for is yr fills and whatever yr insurance pays, that's all he will take. Don't worry so much!!!!

  4. Reesh,

Quick question. Now that some time has past, did you receive any bills? I am waiting for my insurance to switch to Oxford (7/1) to make my call to Dr. Nusbaum. I've heard nothing but good things about him and a friend of mine had the surgery with him yesterday. She was told by him that he accepts what the insurance covers, he won't charge her anymore and our insurance covers the hospital. I am worried about the bills 'cause my husband is out of work. Any info would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Dotem

  5. Christmas is the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who is considered the Son of God, and the savior of all people. With the birth of Christ, Christianity essentially begins; Christmas also celebrates the beginning of Christianity. Today, some argue, Christmas has been corrupted by the commercialism with which it has come to be associated. For the poor, it may well be a time when, to quote Dickens, “want is keenly felt.” Dickens uses this as an argument for practicing charity and “keeping Christmas in our hearts” on every day of the year.

However, it can be stated that for the many joyous family celebrations where poverty is not a factor, there are still many where poverty is felt at Christmas, and where families despair that there is not even money to give their children basic necessities as Christmas gifts. Such a thought is sobering when one ponders the Christian message as one of personal sacrifice, kindness to others, and loving our neighbors as ourselves.

  6. I had my 3rd fill in October, and my dr. made me very tight, so tight that I haven't been able to eat anything but soft foods. I can't eat salad, meat...last night I went to a Christmas party and all I had was one chicken wing and about 3tblspoons of baked Beans and threw up about 6X...very embarrassing. I'm getting concerned because I don't know what kinds of Protein I can have. My intake of food is very little. I had my surgery March 20th and have lost 64lbs so far which I'm very happy about. If anyone has gone thru the same thing as me, I will take any suggestions on how to get more protein in my diet. Thank you.

  7. My physician wanted (and tried to talk me into) a bypass, he said because I was diabetic it was a better option. I just couldn't get myself to consider the bypass. So he relented and agreed on the lap-band. I was banded on 10-5-07. I started out @ 347 and after the 2 week low calorie diet and the 2 week pre-op liquid only diet I was @ 324. I am inspired looking @ the pictures of Brandy, I want to look like her. ha ha. I am a little discouraged that I havn't broke 300 yet, but I going to hang in there. Just looking and reading the posts give me hope.

I was 307 when I was banded in March 07, I am now 250, I went from a size 28 to 18-20, feeling great. My goal is to lose 100 more, get rid of my cpap, and begin to look like the person God created me to be. My children have never seen me thin and that is one of my goals. I gave all my clothes away and today went shopping and even fit into a 14-16, it was a little snug around the hips but before I wouldn't even think of trying it on. If I can do it, you can do it too!!! Good Luck!!!!

  8. Picked up my comfort bike yesterday (it wasn't ready on monday). Went on my first bike ride in YEARS!!! My oh My I am out of shape!!! I went two miles and dang if my legs didn't turn to rubber bands!!!! lol!!! I have a meeting today at 1...it's 2.5 miles from home, so I think I'm going to take a leap of faith and bike there! I should get there just fine...it's down hill most of the way...it's the way home I'm worried about!!! :faint: Wish me luck!! hahaha

What is a comfy bike? I have been wanting to ride but a bit scared of falling since I had knee replacement surgery on both knees - I've been walking but I would much rather ride.

  9. I wonder why some people have the gas pains and some don't. I've read about people being in pain from 1 week to a few weeks and some people go home the same day and have NO pain or problems!? What could be making the difference?

Try some warm tea or warm Soup, that makes the gas come down and out...at least that's what I was told and it worked for me.

  10. Hi, I am also from Ocean County and had my surgery up north, but I'm looking for a dr. closer to me so I can get my fills and not travel 2.5hrs away. I just got a bill from Horizon BC/BS for $900 for the fill with fluoroscope and I'm sick over this because I need to get another one but I'll be darned if I'm going to pay that much. How much do you pay for yr fills? And what insurance do you have?

  11. Hi Everyone,

I am very annoyed that my insurance is not covering my fill - I got a statement from Horizon BC/BS that I'm responsible for my 1st fill which is $900 (with fluoroscope). I think that's alot of money for a little bit of saline and the exam wasn't even 10 minutes long. If anyone knows of any fill doctors down in this area - I live near Toms RIver, I sure would appreciate it. Also, I would be interested to find out what everyone pays plus what is the usual amount of saline they put in you. Thanks.

  12. Hi,

If anyone knows of any drs. in the Jersey shore area (NJ) pls let me know. I have been travelling 2hrs to get my fill from the dr. who did the surgery and he is quite expensive when it comes to the fills. His charge is $900 and my insurance won't cover that much. I am in need of a fill but can't afford his fee. HELP!!!!!

  13. Hi Family,

I've been offline for a while with some serious marital problems. I would ask that you keep me in prayer that I will be strong and be able to stand up for what I know is right and to hear the voice of the Lord in all of this. I have alot of anxiety and especially now since I can't use food for comfort, it's 100 times more emotional for me. I have been staying with my son in Las Vegas and am thinking about selling my home in NJ and moving here. I would appreciate your prayers.

God bless you all!! Hope everyone is winning their fight over obesity!!!!

  14. Hi everyone,

I've been sick with bronchitis for the past 5 weeks and had to deal with some family issues...fortunately I have lost 29lbs. Started out at 307lbs and down to 279. I went from size 3X to size 22-24 (tops & bottoms)

I had my 1st fill the last Friday in April, I believe I need another one but I have to say I'm really proud of myself, I haven't had one piece of bread since my surgery in March, or any sugar for that matter other than s/f ice pops. The Water and Protein Drinks really help. My only problem is I haven't really exercised. My birthday was May 3rd and my friend gave me a walking exercise DVD which I plan on starting tomorrow.

I'm leaving for Las Vegas next week for 2 weeks to see my son and possibly moving there. Anyone from Vegas out there?

I need to change my signature and don't have the vaguest idea how to do it, can someone help???

Anyway, I was thinking we should total all the pounds we have lost for those banded in March 2007...I would be curious to see how much we have all lost.

Hope all are doing good and getting rid of all these extra lbs.

  15. Hi Trina,

I can relate with you regarding the water...I don't like crystalite so what I tried doing tonight was putting just a touch of orange juice in my Water and it was good.

I am also having problems having real bowel movements, I've had the runs since my surgery...yuck!!!!

    Hope yr feeling better.

  16. First I want to say to yr wife, how blessed she is to have a husband who wants to give her encouragement and support. My only advice is to get rid of anything in the house that may be of temptation to her in regards to sugar items, cake, candy, bread, Pasta. Just keep encouraging her, tell her she looks good especially when you see the lbs just melting off of her. Remember food has been a buddy of hers and most of us used food for comfort - now you become her comfort and let her share her heart with you...don't give her solutions, just listen - that's the key - listen and understand...that's the best advice I can give.
