    Why No More Protein Shakes?!

I have a protein shake every morning either right when I wake up or after the gym at about 6:30. It has been working for me. My band is super tight in the morning so this way is the only way I am going to get any protein down first thing. I then have a snack (cheese stick, 100 calorie pack almonds) once I get to work.
  2. Saw this article on my FB newsfeed from People magazine. Here is the link --> http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20580365,00.html Twelve years after Carnie Wilson underwent gastric bypass surgery and famously lost 150 lbs., the singer has done it again: On January 18, Wilson went under the knife for lap-band surgery, PEOPLE confirms exclusively. Since having the procedure – during which a silicone band is placed around the stomach to create a pouch the size of a golf ball – Wilson, 43, has lost 30 lbs. and counting. "It was the right decision for me and I'm doing really well so far," Wilson tells PEOPLE. "It's all about taking good care of myself." The singer, who is reuniting with Wilson Philips to promote their new album and their TV Guide Network reality show Wilson Philips: Still Holding On (premiering April 8), has struggled to lose the post-pregnancy pounds. Wilson has two daughters, Lola, 6, and Luciana, 2, with her musician husband Rob Bonfiglio, 44. "Having children derailed me a bit," Wilson told PEOPLE in 2010 of her weight struggles. "I'm just frustrated with these pounds."

  6. Dr. visit tomorrow! Not looking forward to this weigh in but I definitely need a fill!

  7. So sorry to hear about your Mom! I'm sure she was extremely proud of you for taking control of your life! Small bites of things are not bad, as long as it is once in a while and doesn't get out of control! You are doing so great, keep up the good work for you and your Mom!!

    Joining A Gym

My doctor gave me clearance to start working out with no restrictions about 6 weeks after surgery. I started working with a trainer a couple of times a week. It has definitely been the best thing I have done (other than have surgery). I try to be at the gym 3-4 days per week. Have fun!

    I Need Some Support Please

I have this same problem. I am doing so well and then I sabotage myself by getting in the "I want this and this" mode. The more sugar and junk you eat the more you want. It is a vicious cycle. I use the five day pouch test (you can google it). It is similar to what jakealta posted about above. I use it as a "RESET" . For me it helps to start from day one. It has helped me a couple of times. Good Luck!!

    Hard Time Eating

I know with me I cannot really eat too much in the morning. My band is super tight. I have a protein shake every morning and then later on I'll have either a cheese stick, almonds, or a bbq protein cracker (from my doctor) as a snack. I've read that a lot of people are tighter in the morning. If you are having trouble getting solid proteins down even when you are chewing alot and eating very slowly I would contact your Dr.

    How Often Do You Weigh?

I weigh myself daily and only record it once a week on Thursday. I don't obsess over the daily number, only the weekly one! It works for me!
  12. I was just telling someone yesterday that I am so much more into cooking now that I have my band. They couldn't understand that but it is true. I find healthy things that i love and get excited to cook and eat. I now look forward to the new recipe I found for a lentil stew with quinoa. I truly enjoy finding healthy recipes that use my new found "culinary skills" haha!!
  13. Started back to the gym this morning. it is so hard to get up but I try to remember this great feeling after my work out! Great way to start off my week!

    Rapid Weight Loss

I lost 16 my first week. I agree that the more you have to lose the more you lose in the beginning. My doctor thought it was fine and it definitely slowed way down after that. Definitely check with your Dr. to make sure but otherwise keep it up!

Non Measurable Results From Lap Band

I have been banded one year and still want to lose 70~lbs. but I am so happy with where I am. I am now able to get down and up off the floor to play with my son without having to brace myself. I flew in February and fit comfortably in the seat and the seatbelt - my husband actually got to use his arm rest!! I don't have to worry about the booths anymore, I fit in them with room to spare. I actually have displayed a few photographs of myself with my family around and I don't mind looking at them!! I look forward to getting dressed up for things not dreading how uncomfortable I will feel. Last night I wore a size 14 nightgown - down from a 26 merely a year ago. My period has been regular for months which means maybe we can have another baby soon without all the complications I had with my son due to my weight! Thanks for the post! I hope all of your NSV's happen for you!!
  17. I mourned food my first 2 months. I literally grieved it. I was not prepared for it. It by far was the hardest part of my journey. The fact that you are thinking about this before going to your seminar is a great thing. I so didn't prepare my head for this change. It is still something I am struggling with, the head issues I have associated with food. But you know what a year later and I can pretty much eat anything I want (I know that is not true of everyone) but a smaller portion size. I choose to eat healthy, low carb, high protein items. I choose not to eat bread, rice, or pasta. I do that because I know those are my triggers. Now that being said I am not perfect and I do treat myself every once in a while to something I am craving. I have learned that if I don't have what I really want I feel deprived and eat more. At the end of the day this is a lifestyle change and you have to do what works best for you. Good Luck to you!
  18. Guilt can drag you down! Don't you let it! I keep repeating "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!". I agree that this is the hardest thing I have ever done but the most worthwhile. Take it one day at a time, don't beat yourself up for mistakes. We all make them and everyday is a brand new day! I truly wish you success!
  19. I had my surgery at 371lbs. The first 2 months before my first fill were so hard!! Once I got a fill it was much better, but sometimes it takes several fills before you feel restriction. Once you do it should help you control your eating. Are you working out moving your body? The thing that helped me be successful is I got a trainer who came to me twice a week. Yes, it was an expense but I vowed that I would not fail at this like everything else I tried. He really forced me to do things I would have never done. You can so do this. Start over! Pretend it is day one. Do Protein shakes for a couple of days. Google - 5 day pouch test. It is like getting back to basics. Message me if you need motivation or to just vent!! You did not fail. You can start fresh today!!

    1 Week Post Op

Congratulations on your surgery and quitting smoking! I quit smoking right before my surgery and it is the best thing I have ever done. I am a little over a year smoke free! A lot of positive changes all at once - you can do it!! Good Luck to you!

    Restriction..????

Restriction is not feeling like you are going to throw up. When you have good restriction, it will limit the amount of food you can eat, making you feel satisified after a small portion for a longer period of time. With restriction you will have to eat slower and chew really well. Otherwise you will get stuck which will make you feel like you have to throw up to get rid of the food stuck from passing through your band. I hope that helps you understand the difference between restriction and being stuck.

Help! Just Got My First Fill

For most people it takes more than one fill to get restriction. Just keep following the rules and going for fills and you will get there....Also, keep in mind sometimes it takes the fill time to "settle in". I sometimes don't feel the effect of a fill until a couple of weeks later. Good Luck!!
  25. just made turkey sausage with garlic, spinach & quinoa for dinner! YUM!!!
