  1. Thanks everyone for their comments. I have to consider all three but leaning more toward band. I still have 1-2 months before I am sure I have to choose. My father and husband are against WLS but my husband is more supportive of the band. Still he says he will support me with whatever decision I make.
  2. can people tell me why the liquid diet is necessary for 3-4 weeks out? if I lose weight on my own 6-8 weeks prior to surgery I am shrinking my liver on my own. I understand the liquid 2-3 days prior for the stomach purposes but is there other reasons?
  3. does pre-op diet change if you are losing weight before hand? did any of you have to lose 10% of body weight before surgery?
  4. I haven't done it yet but a friend who has VSG done told me people will treat me differently and be ready for that. I have very supportive friends and value that! My husband isn't and my parents do not want me to do it, neither do my 2 sons. they all believe I can do it myself by working out and eating less. My friend told me some people will be jealous, some will try to talk me out of it and some who didn't know me when I was thinner, they won't know how to change the relationship to the new me. I have been overweight 15 years so work has never seen me thinner other than the 50 pds I lost and gained back 2-3 years ago. So I am ready for this journey, hate the thought of losing friends or being "judged" as I am sure I will be by coworkers but I know this is something I have to do for my sake. P.s. My best friend is extremely supportive and she is there for me so I am very fortunate.
  5. Would you choose lapband again or one of the other WL surgeries?
  6. I am still in process of deciding which way to go for WL surgery. I was wondering what type of weight loss expectations I can have being completely realistic. i am dieting now and losing weight slowly to have my surgery but w/o that taken into consideration.. How much weight did you lose 1 week following surgery, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years? I am about 310 and 5'9". I know everyone is different just don't want to have no weight loss for 6months after surgery!
  7. I am preband 5'9" 310 42 yo cannot wait to begin this journey. waiting for surgeon appts, been approved.
  8. have you considered adding in weight training? or interval training? change up the exercise and maybe it will jump start and keep weight loss going. I found with me doing just cardio didn't help me lose weight. I do not have the band yet but thought if you tried it for 2 weeks you might see a difference? Worth a shot.
  9. Congrats on the pregnancy! I am pre-op but wanted to congratulate you!
  10. Can I ask how much you have lost? I am concerned about not losing weight until my first fill? Is it normal to leave surgery w/o being filled? I am just starting to learn about this.
  11. I am also new. considering between the different options. I have been approved yet surgery is at least 1-2 months out. i am leaning towards lap band but wondered if anyone on this site regretted their decision? Would you do the other types of bypass if you had it to do again? Please be as honest as you can. I need some guidance from those who have had this done. i want the good, bad and ugly. LOL
