  1. So we are not supposed to drink for an hour after eating because the food will get washed through but the band is supposed to help you stay full for three or four hours. My question is: if you drink water an hour after eating does that not wash the food through? So theoretically wouldnt you get hungry soon after washing the food through only an hour after eating? Also, since we chew our food to a liquid like consistency why isn't all food slider food? Just wondering... I'm sure there is something I am missing.

    Favorite Exercise? :)

What are the p90x and spin classes like?
  3. How long did you take your pain meds for? I am ten days out and almost out of my second bottle of pain meds with no refil. I have only used it twice today and go for as long as possible between uses but I am still having a good amount of pain and I am worried 1. Because I am going to run out soon and 2. Most people don't seem to need the meds for so long. ?????

    Pre Opp Diet?

I did a three week liquid diet and lost thirty pounds. It was really hard the first three or four days and then I got used to it. I did not go out at all and so I was not tempted other than when my boyfriend would eat stuff in front of me. I also exercised four times a week for 30-40 minutes. I don't know if they recommend exercise during this time but I think it helped me lose the weight. Sipping on water when you are hungry helped a lot too.

    Pain Meds?

Wow this is actually really worrisome. I am still having a lot of pain. But I am realizing that although my port area aches all the time and hurts pretty good half the time, my back is what hurts the worst. I never had back pain before but now it hurts so bad. I have been sleeping sitting up this whole time because I am uncomfortable laying down because of the port pain. What helped you all be able to sleep laying down?
  6. I was very hungry but at the same time I didn't feel good so I didn't want to eat anything.

    Liquids?

I had to do a three week liquid diet. The first day I was very depressed and it felt like I would never get to eat again and like I would never be happy again. I had that feeling on and off for the first week but it got better every day. My cravings were really bad for the first three days but I was amazed that they got very minor after that and when I crave I CRAVE!!! I lost thirty lbs during the three weeks and gained ten over the three hours of surgery ( they said it is normal) and I have not lost since but I am only a week out. Good luck it will be ok and you will do well.

    Mushie Ideas?

I am starting my mushie stage and I need some ideas on what to eat.
  9. I have just started the mushie or soft food stage and I would live to hear what you really liked during this stage. I will be on it for four weeks.

    Left Shoulder Pain...!!!

Sometimes walking with my arms above my head with the muscles relaxed helped.

    Lapband Failure

(I only say this with respect and the best intentions. I just hope someone would try to say this to me if I am giving up.) Don't give up... Try again. You were strong enough and motivated enough at one point to go through surgery which is a big deal and it sounds like you have had success. It is very, very hard to lose weight and change ourselves. And scary. Try to remember how it felt when you were motivated and the things you saw in your mind when you thought about succeeding. It is still there. I wish the best for you.

I Love This Forum! Thank You!

I absolutely agree! I am on here all day long. My posts have not been very positive ( mostly me aaking for reassurance or whining) but as I start to feel better I hope to be as helpful as all the other awesome bandsters.
  13. Not to worry...mine went from a bright purple to red and yellow with black brushing. My dr. said that it will go through a bunch of color changes. It is all normal but if it starts to look really red and starts getting swollen (mad), starts to have anything come out of it, gets really warm to the touch, or starts hurting really bad is when you should call the dr. But I think all of that is pretty unlikely.

    Ugh!!!

Man I hope no one says something like that to me. The day after surgery my mom thought it would be cool to introduce my grandma to the face time app on her iPod. So of course they call me and i am passed out on meds and not feeling good. My grandma promptly gets on to me for being asleep at ten in the morning and says that I'm not going to lose weight laying around. She has always been on my ass but that was pretty extreme.

    Port Location???

I was wondering if the port is directly beneath the incision or do they put it up past the incision. I have no idea where my port is yet... I was freaking out too much in recovery to ask.
  16. I have not thrown up yet but I have been so worried about it. I'm sure it is bound to happen at some point and I don't want to freak out when it does. Does it hurt or feel different after the band? What are the chances of it making the band slip or the port flip? Do you need to call your surgeon immediately or is it ok to throw up once or twice? Is there anything else you can tell me about the throwing up "experience"? I live 2 hours away from my surgeon so I hope I never get sick because a two hour car ride while throwing up sounds terrifying.

    Severe Pain

I has this problem before I got my band. It was very hard to pin point where the pain was or even describe it. I would feel like I had to go to the bathroom but could not and the pain would move from my front to my back and was anywhere between my chest to my lower stomach. It was consistent with gall bladder or kidney stones but it was not either. The dr. finally tested me for a virus in the intestines called H. Pylori. They put me on antibiotics and I did not have the pain anymore. (I had dealt with the pain for almost a year) might be just one more thing to possibly consider.

    Plastic Surgery???

I have just been banded and have not yet lost enough weight to have excess skin but I know that I will have a lot of it eventually. That was one of my major concerns with this surgery and I feel that when the time is right I will have the skin removed. With all of the work that we have to do to lose the weight why not take another step to better ourselves. That is how I think about it but it should be completely your decision. If you think it will make you happy then why deny yourself. But if you are not sure about it don't feel obligated at all because you are still gorgeous with or without the skin.

    Constant Nausea

I am having the same problem. I am still on my full liquid stage but I am pretty much still doing clear liquids. I have a lotion like medication for the nausea but it is hard to tell if it works. I find that yogurt makes me feel a little better. I hope you feel better soon.
  20. I had surgery on the 7th and everything went well. I did ok on the clear liquid diet and had no nausea. But I started the full liquid diet yesterday and I am now sick to my stomach. I have only been able to sip low fat yogurt without getting nauseated. I am not getting any nutrients other than that. I was wondering what you were able to have during your full liquid stage? I am so scared that I might throw up and make my band slip or something.
  21. I am starting to get a little bit scared about my recovery. I am actually feeling worse now than I was before. I feel sick to my stomach and it is making it extremely hard for me to get much of my liquids. I have only been doing the broth from soup and not the cream soup. Even typing the words cream soup makes me sick to my stomach right now. The meds I have for this don't seem to work that well although I have not thrown up. I can barely get any protein at all because the shakes gross me out and always have. My port site seems to hurt almost as badly as it did before and my insides just feel like someone punched me repeatedly. It seems like everyone else is doing so much better than I am a week after surgery.
  22. I was wondering what experiences people have had when eating at resturants? Do any of you have the lap band cards that supposedly inform the resturant that you need smaller portions? How has that worked out for you? Do the servers get really confused when you try to tell them you have a band?

    Proteinn Shots

Omg I am so gonna try these bullets. I loathe all of the protein shakes I have tried and it is a struggle not to gag while I drink them. I don't think I would mind little shots of protein though. So glad I saw this!

    No Drinking While Eating

My surgeon says that if you have a really hard time with thirst while you eat that you can ask for a glass of ice and anything that melts off the ice during the meal is ok to drink. It should only be a few sips and should not wash everything through. This can also get the waiters to leave you alone about getting a drink.
