Marcy-keep trying and like you said sometimes it is one day at a time, one hour at a time or even one minute at a time.
  2. We are in the same boat. Only my DH and a few of my friends know. The rest of my immediate family including parents and sister do not. I too have kids that are 7 and 9. I plan on telling them on Wed. that my friend will be getting them off to school on Thurs and picking them up at the end of the day. I have to stay overnight so, my hubby is planning on being home by dinner time to be with the boys and I will call them on the phone. I am planning on telling them that I am going to the hospital to get healthier. They have seen me drinking the shakes for the last 2 weeks so I think they know something is up. They also have commented that I am on this site alot. Depending on the time you need to be there it may affect your plans for the day. I have to be there at 5:30 am, so I definately needed someone to get them on the bus. Best of luck.

Google : the world according to eggface. She has wonderful recipes for every stage of the plan. And I just LOVE protein ice creamm (it counts as a liquid) I have also made jello jigglers. Best of luck
  4. Thinking of you as you begin your journey!! Best of luck. C

  5. I am on day 10 of the pre-op liquid diet, yesterday I could no longer take the reflux and heartburn and ate some grilled chicken, cheese and salad. No heartburn. I know that I am to be following the liver reduction plan and high protein for post op healing purposes but has anyone else experienced this horrible reflux and heartburn?? I already take prescription Prilosec daily, and have tried different kinds of protein powder (Nectar and Whey protein) to no avail. Any other suggestions?? Thanks for any input you may have.

Can we just say that PROTEIN ICE CREAM is wonderful on the pre-op diet. And thanks everyone for the suggestions of how to solve the heartburn and reflux issues I have been having. I bought the Chocolate Silk and Vanilla Silk milk and made the icecream with that and NO problems!!!! YEAH and YUM!!! Everyone should check out the "world according to eggface" That is where I found the ice cream recipe and it was delicious and prefectly allowed on the pre-op phase of our plan. Just a few days to go and off to my new life. Thanks again everyone!!
  8. Thanks for the help ladies. I went bought SILK milk and it really helped. Best thing I did though was looking up the receipe for protein ice cream and making a nice big bowl of chocolate ice cream-perfectly allowed on the pre=op made with protein powder and milk in the ice cream maker YUM!!!!!
  9. Thanks for the help-will call and try some soy milk or lactose free

Hi Shelly, First off you ARE doing great!!! I am having surg the 31st, so I thought I would share some of my plan with you. We have a wonderful NP at our doctors office who had GBP surg herself and is a wealth of information. To the hospital I am taking a nice pair of PJ's I bought for myself, slippers and a robe. For during the time after my surg til the following day I have a book for reading, a puzzle book, some crochet (a small project that I am working on), and for the following morning we are able to shower the following day some nice shower gel, body lotion and the stuff to do my hair. She told us to take things to make us feel good about ourselves, will be up walking within 2 hours post op and want to be looking good (lol). I usually have problems with my BP during anesthesia, so they usually have to give me extra fluids, so I have a pair of larger, warnout slippers packed also. For at home I have stocked up on soups, natural fruit juice with no sugar added (dilute it 1 to 1 with water post op), crystal light, SF popsicles, Gas-X strips, SF jello, and she also suggested picking up a rotisseri chicken and pureeing it with chicken broth freezing it in ice cube trays for when you are able to start with soft/pureed foods so you have something good and ready for yourself. I hope that some of this information is helpful to you and best of luck!!!!!

    Coffee

For the decaf haters out there-I love my decaf Chocolate Raspberry it is almost like a dessert. I have switched to decaf-the NP at our doctors office told us the last thing you want immediately post op is to be in pain and have a caffeine headache. She too has had surg and is a great wealth of information, I wish everyone had someone like Lynn to ask questions of.

    I need to get serious

Connie, I think that it is take it one meal at a time, even if it is one meal at a time, drink, drink, drink-you will automatically eat less. All you can do is to try your best. I go by my scale (aka the gym's scale) I weigh myself once a week at the gym and that is the weight that I put on my ticker, my scale at home is about 4 pounds less than that. Best of luck-one minute at a time.

    Right Shoulder/Neck Pain with band?

Our Nurse Practitioner said if we have an issue like you are describing that it is a gas bubble, and we should actually lay on the side that hurts and it makes the gas rise and go to the center and out. Hope it works. Best of luck.

5 days to go-Thursday morning at 7:30 is my time. I did have a little grilled chicken and salad yesterday-couldn't stand the reflux and heartburn anymore. I now have 4 different kinds of protein powder to drink to see which one won't give me the reflux and heartburn. Thanks for the suggestion of trying different kinds. My weight is still going down which is great-will keep drinking my water and keep trying with all the liquids. A few days to the start of my new life!! Thanks everyone for their support.

Did anybody else have reflux and heartburn when on the pre-op diet. I am on day 9 and the burning in my throat from the reflux is getting uncontrollable. I am on prescription prevacid already. Thanks for any suggestions.

6 More Days!! Day 8 of liquid diet..

Good for you. I haven't been as strong on the liquid only diet as you. Did have 2 scrambled eggs yesterday for breakfast-couldn't take the heartburn any more. Doing better already today. Drinking my Apple Extasy protein drink as I type. I am scheduled for the 31st, and am excited and alittle scared at the same time. My DH has been drinking the shakes with me at meals, the kids don't even ask what is going on anymore. People are truly amazing that they think this is easy and that we are taking the easy way out. If they only could really understand the truth that we are making and doing the most difficult decisons and changes in our lives. Best of luck to you next week.

The incisions may hurt momentarily but if you are able to release that gas bubble and feel better overall I think it would be worth the momentary discomfort over continual. good luck
  20. A week from today will be home with my band!!! New life here I come!!

When will the weight come off?

At least you have some answers. The NP in our doctors office told us the other day in our nutrition class that when she has someone saying that they are not loosing that they are NOT getting enough protein. Try keeping track of your protein intake. The chart that we were given at 1 year post op you should be 100 grams of protein per day. Best of luck and hopefully you will get all of this resolved soon.

Goofy weather here in NY, snow today vs spring jacket the other day. But as silly as it sounds, my winter jacket was looser today as well as my zip up boots!!! I guess even the 14 pounds mean something!!:success1:

Our nurse practitioner was telling us the other day if you have pain on a side from gas to actually lay on that side-it makes the gas move and rise toward the center and out. Best of luck.

Marcy-instead of worring about eating, keep your Water with you at all times and sip, sip, sip. Best of luck. I know what it is like to work all night after taking care of the family all day. My little guy is home with strep today and tomarrow till the antibiotics are on board for 24 hours.
