    Gas? First fill questions

So I got my first fill today. Added 1 cc so I now have a total of 5 in my 11 cc band. I am very burpy today. Like I was right after surgery. Is this normal? Also my doc said that he no longer requires liquids only after a fill for a couple days. So I ate cooked broccoli and salmon for lunch. Big mistake. I was very uncomfortable. So for dinner I ate a ricotta bake I make that is good for mushy stage. That went pretty well by I have this weird warm sensation in my chest. Not pain but just kinda warm and full/ tight. Noraml or not?

    What is your goal weight?

Starting at 317 my personal goal is 185. My "ideal" weight according to whoever makes up all those charts is 147-160 but at 5'10 that seems a little skinny for me. In high school I was a size 13 and about 175-180 pounds so I want to get back close to that. Have lost 39 in 6 weeks already. Woohoo!

What do I tell my kids....

I told my kids because I thought thy could handle it. They are 7 and 9. My son was upset at first because he said he liked me "squishy". But after I explained to them both that I would be healthier, feel better and able to do more stuff with them, they understood. My daughter,9, who is very active already has even started riding her bike with me web I go exercise.

    Why are YOU Fat?

Because I was usingfood for everything but nutrition. As a child I was never overweight. My mom was pretty strict on what I ate at home and I was very active so even if I had junk, I burned it off. In high school I thought I was heavy at 180lbs and 5'10. Funny since now my new personal goal weight is 200! Went to college and found new freedom and comfort in food and alcohol and gained about 25 lbs. Funny that I can rememberthe horror I felt when I went over 200lbs way back then. After I got married, had a couple kids the pounds just kept coming. Working nights as a nurse did help either, nor did the stress jn my home life that literally drove me to fast food at least once if not more daily. I got a wake up call in december 2010 when I went for my annual check up and tipped the scale at 317! My labs were terrible and I was put on diabetes meds and increased my BP meds. That was web I decided I ha to take control. I was banded feb 10,2011. I am down 38 lbs so far and off all my meds already. I feel so much better physically and emotionally. It was truly the best thing I have ever done.
  6. That my hair would get thinner. That somedays I would be starving and other days not want to eat at all. That I wood still have to drink Protein shakes daily to get my needed amount. That I would be cold when others are sweating. That I would feel SO much better after only minimal loss. That I would wish I had done this years ago. That nsv's can be better than the scale moving down. That my family would be so supportive. That my friends and co workers would be so supportive. That I would inspire others to have this procedure too. There are positives and negativesto everything I. Life, so for now I am trying to focus on the positives.

    Self payers....financing options?

I got a personal loan from y bank with a 7% interest rate. I had my surgery through True Results and since I paid in full up front it covered my surgery and a year of aftercare and fills.
  8. If it is prefaced with a statement of you look great, I have no problem saying how much I have lost. Or if it is someone I haven't seen in a while I have no prob with it either. But, people I work with, family and others I see on a daily basis, do irritate me when they ask. Especially if I haven't lost in a few days. They look so disappointed in mr if I don't lose each time they see me.
  9. My very well meaning best friend gbe me a scale as a gift after my surgery. It has become an obsession. I weigh myself at lest once sometimes twice a day. And my weight fluctuates throughout he day. I can be as much as 3 lbs up or down depending on the time of day. How often do other weigh? How can I get past this obsession.

    Protein Bars?

How many cals are they? Most I have seen are around 200 cals which is a lot for a snack when you are on a strict intake.

    Protein Bars?

Not sure about protein bars. But I like the fiber one 90 cal bars for a snack. They are peanut butter with chocolate and help mr get my much needed fiber. I don't have a prob right now getting enough protein.

    wk 5-2 1/2 PLATEAU!

I am in the exact same boat! I was banded feb 10th. I have lost 37 total but keep playing with the same 2 pounds. Can seem to keep them off. Getting filled tuesday. Hope that helps.
  14. I can eat brocolli as long as it us cooked and soft. Canned asparagus while not nearly astasty as fresh is ok for mr too since it is kinda mushy. Salad even darker lettuce is ok for me too. But raw carrots, celery or broccoli cause me issues. Cucumber and tomato are ok. Corn is a huge no for me. A lot of it varies from person to person.
  15. So ready for a fill! Going Tuesday for first fill. Feel lime I could eat anything right now! How many gills did other need before feeling restriction.

    Filling Foods

Tuba or salmon patties. I buy them Pre made in a pouch like regular tuna. High protein and low cal. That plus some salad or veggies keeps mr full about 5 hrs. And I have gone back to homemade protein smoothies in the morning. Fresh fruit. Ice. Greek yogurt. Lots of person and my fiber too since I add benefiber powder. I I get hungry and need a snack a handful of almonds or a 90cal fiber one bar tides me over.

    18 Days Post Op- HELP

It will get better. Some docs put a small fill in atthe time of Surg and some don't. Plus now your natural swelling restriction is prob gone. I am 5 weeks out and in need of a fill which I will get next week. I feel like I can eat way more than I should too. A big part of it is in your head. I have to keep busy or I will snack and graze. I think it is just going to be that way for sone people. Don't get discouraged. It will get better. And it sounds like you are doing right by focusing on proteins now.

    Can you feel/see your port?

I can feel mine too it is on the right side of my belly right below the ribs. It doesnt bother mr but I creeps out my hubby. I am an RN and all my fellow nurses want to see and feel it. Guess it is just a medical person thing.

    Greek Yogurt

Ok, I am really trying to like this, but as I sit here I am forcing myself to eat it. This is the firsttime I have had this kind of yogurt. I usually eat the regular fat free and/or sugarfree kind. This is really bitter and kind of sour. I got the strawberry yoplait 2x protein one. Maybe it will grow on me. Any suggestions of a better tasting brand?

    "Skinny Bitch"

That's great. I am a labor nurse too. Ithink there are a lot of us nurses onthus forum. Funny! I was banded 5 weeks ago and am down 37 pounds and they are calling me droopy drawers because I refuse to buy new scrubs yet!
  23. TexasNurseMom

    12 days since banding...

It will get better, but there will always be temptation. I am 5 weeks out and on all regular foods minus breads, pastas and those kinds of things. I am surprised though at how easily I get satisfied and lose interest in foods I used to love. Had steak this weekend and after 5 or 6 bites I really just didn't want anymore. In the past I would have cleaned my plate! So try to hang in there. I would chew ice which I know is bad for your teeth, but it helped in the first couple weeks when I wanted to chew something. Hang in there v
  24. Wow fireman. Not sure what to think about that... It was 2 weeks for me. But have to say it has been much more frequent than pre band!

What birth control should I use?

Most docs won't put in an iud unless you hbevalready had one child because otherwise it can be very difficult and painful to insert since the cervix (opening to tue uterus) has never opened and is stiffer. Sorry to be medical/technical, but that's what I do!
