  1. you look awesome! congratulations!
  2. I think she needs to find another doctor..quickly!
  3. I quit eating sweets..things with sugar..back in February before I had my surgery in May. I eat the sugar free popsickles and that is good...also skinny cow ice cream, but you still have to limit what you eat. At work we have birthdays with cake and ice cream about twice a month and then someone is always bringing in donuts or cupcakes. I pass it up...they say one bit won't hurt..but for me, it will....one bite leads to two, etc. I am not craving it..so I am not going to give in and start the craving...besides what happens if I take that bite and its not as good as I remember? I have dreamed I am eating M&M's...what a deal, I get to taste the chocolate but not worry about the calories!
  4. I started in like size 26 jeans...am wearing size 22 now and have a 20 and 18 in my closet...I am 5'2" and at 251. Keep up the good work.
  5. if possible I think it would be better to have surgery close by. you will probably need monthly appts and distance could serve as a bad thing. if you go by car to your second residence, probably not a problem at all. I have heard air travel is ok too but you need to check with the dr doing your surgery.
  6. even after hearing bad experiences from others...and there are bad experiences...I would do it again. For me, it works. I am a happy Camper!
  7. congrats...as we know the band works different for everyone..or at least the speed of it working! happy losing!
  8. Also, you will be surprised how people you haven't seen in a couple of weeks will notice even 5-10 lbs. Get out there embrace life...isn't that why you did it? Hang in there!
  9. there is a woman in my support group who had the exact same thing happen. You won't be able to get a fill, but it will all be ok.
  10. being scared is normal. Just think of all the positives. More energy, new clothes, etc. It will be awesome.
  11. I agree with Dave, find another dr.
  12. online you can buy from Bariatric Advantage, I liked the strawberry and banana. Muscle milk I drank straight
  13. congrats on hitting onderland!
  14. Call your doctor and explain how you are feeling. He may tell you to change what you are eating
  15. with the band you are changing what you eat, how fast you eat and portion size. The band helps with the portion size if you eat healthy and eat slow. It doesn't mean you can never have ice cream, etc again..just not very often and smaller portions. You need to exercise too
  16. I eat spicy foods all the time, but I have heard others can't. I told everyone and everyone, even if they didn't totally agree have been really supportive...but remember I am 55 and have had about 40 years of obesity.
  17. thanks, I go back on Tuesday to see if they are going to do a fill and then weigh. I haven't had a fill yet and not sure I want one yet. If I can do it without a fill, I would rather wait until I feel I need one. Keep up the good work.
  18. just remember that when you don't lose pounds you will lose inches. are you doing any exercise?
  19. I would do the 45 minutes first and tell them about the band. Since you have already had it, they will deal with it.
  20. I got mine online from Bariatric Advantage and the banana with frozen strawberries is awesome.
  21. the good part is you can go "shopping" in your own home and not spend any money. All those clothes will be new to you again. It is an awesome feeling. Good luck.
  22. I started going to water aerobics about two weeks after surgery, but alot of it depends on how YOU heal.
  23. I tried the recumbent bike..uh..warmup was 7 minutes...I made it two minutes. But I have been going to water aerobics twice a week for an hour. See if they have a quick start program where you get a free trainer for one visit to set you up a program.
  24. I would ask your doctor why...maybe go talk to a dr or clinic that specializing in the lap band. Me...I am 55 and was around 150 pounds overweight, more if you go with my "ideal" weight. I chose the lap band for the following reasons. 1) recovery time 2) reverseable 3) it made me do some of the work myself 4) I wanted to lose slower and give my skin a chance to catch up. I don't want a tummy tuck if I don't have to. 5) hospital stay was shorter. I would definately get a second opinion if your current doctor isn't agreeable.
  25. ok Paul, here is the deal, I wish I had done this YEARS ago. I am 55 years old and 5'2", I started at 304 lbs when I started seeing my nutritionist in February. I had surgery on 5-26-11. I had to stay overnight because of an insurance requirement. I didn't have a catheter. I was up and walking the halls within 30 minutes of being in my room. I am now at about 253. I had some gas pains but nothing really bad or at least not to me. You move a little slower the first week or so but still it wasn't any worse for me than trying to walk around the grocery store 50 lbs ago. I stopped all sugar in February. I cut back on my diet sodas and now have 1 or 2 a day, but I drink LOTS of Water..today alone, I have already had 88 ounces. I eat anything I want, just less of them. I haven't had Pasta yet, but only because I haven't wanted it. As Dave said, this is not a magic bullet, you have to work on it and really want to lose the weight and keep it off. I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, reflux, and was pre-diabetic. The only medication I take now are my Vitamins and Calcium. I go to water aerobics twice a week, other than that...I pretty much sit at a desk all day...now, I know I will have to up my exercise soon, but the more weight I lose the more I FEEL like doing. My suggestion to you is..go to a seminar, and if they have support groups, go to meetings.. meet people that have had it done. Like many have said, each doctor is different so the pre-op diet is different. After surgery for probably the first week, you may not even feel hungry. Keep us posted and good luck!
