    realistic expectations?

I am going to lose over 150 lbs. I started at 304 and right now am about 238. I was banded May 26th but started my losing February 21st, while going to the nutritionist. I have two goals...170 and 155 and then who knows. I am 55 years old and haven't been 170 since I got pregnant with my soon to be 34 yr old daughter and haven't been 155 since I was a senior in high school. I believe that anyone that has a lapband, works with their band can and will lose as much as they want...some will lose it fast others slow...but in the end it can be done. Good Luck!
  2. drawing attention is better than having a pb or sliming episode and hurting and really drawing attention...and feeling bad at the same time.

    lapband vs gastric bypass

I chose lapband for lots of reasons: 1) not a major overhaul of my insides; 2) recovery time; 3) if a problem can be reversed; 4) it helps me learn how to eat properly with a better chance of keeping the weight off. 5) slower weight loss giving my skin a chance to catch up. All in all, it is a matter of personal preference. I feel for me I have made the best decision...and my PCP agrees, even though I didn't see him until after my decision had been made. Good luck!

Dr. Terry Simpson - program fee

I personally didn't but I have no idea what my insurance paid for.
  5. I would say soup or take the waiter aside and ask for just marinara sauce.

    Center of Excellence

I went to True Results here in San Antonio and they are awesome too. It is an awesome journey with people that care.

    When should I switch doctors?

Call the insurance company and ask them which would work fastest. Then call the doctors and talk to them.

Just had my first pb episode

I don't know from personal experience but I hear that once you have an episode, you need to go back on liquids for a day or so to let you stomach calm down. Good luck
  10. we have been told that the rule of not drinking is changing. now from what I have been told drinking before and after is with no time limit. if drinking with the meal wait at least a minute after a bite to give it time to talk to your senses and not wash it down too soon.
  11. I haven't used it, but really the kid's meals are really that healthy. The seniors are smaller but not much...I am 55 so some places I get that pleasure without the card. Try ordering off the appetiser menu or sharing with someone.

    Struggling to eat enough calories

I don't count calories and I am only getting 800-900 a day. Remember that myfitnesspal.com does not take into consideration the lap band. I think the main thing to keep from going into starvation mode is just to mix it up...exercise and eat..but only eat what you can. just my opinion..talk to your dr too

    Weight loss before surgery

When I started seeing the nutritionist in February, I decided if I was going to do this..I was going to put my everything into it. I cut out all sugar...candy, cakes, etc. I stopped eating as much carbohydrates, I cut down on my diet cokes(from 6-8 a day to 2) and increased my water intake (wasn't hard since on an average day I drank none). That's how I started...and still pretty much do the same. Good luck!

Advise as I consider lap band surgery

It is the best thing I have ever done for myself! It requires determination and committment to change your lifestyle and relationship with food...but now every bite of food I take is enjoyed to the fullest. Good luck!

Do you still enjoy food after lapband...

You just have to remember when you are going out to eat...have them bring a to go container with the meal and before you start eating put most of it in the box. When I eat out I usually end up with enough for 3 days.

    Getting Banded During Jewish Holidays?

I am not Jewish but...I had my surgery on a Thursday...Monday was a holiday and I went back to work on Tuesday. I think you probably will be ok for company. Just be sure to have plenty of water available.

    Depressed and confused

Just try to remember, even though it sounds like people are judging...if I said I ate two hamburgers, I would think HAMBURGERS. I would say sliders..this way we know that it is not the amount you are eating when we are trying to help figure out the problem. So many of us..I am 55..have been fighting this weight battle longer than some of you have been alive. I wish I had had the opportunity to do this many years ago. Now...I personally think, and it is MY opinion that that is still too much carbohydrates. try eating more Protein and solid foods... hamburger meat is almost like a soft food, so it won't keep you full as long. I know I can tell the difference on how long I stay satisfied.

To Tell or Not To Telll....That is The Question

I have told everyone, because it is my life and I am taking control of it. but having said that...everyone has to do what they feel comfortable with. Matter of fact... True Results has a program called Forward Circle where if people use your associate code get the surgery you make money..soo. I figure, I love my band and talk about it all the time, I may as well benefit financially too.

Do you still enjoy food after lapband...

So far I can eat whatever I want to ...and I actually think I enjoy food MORE, because I take my time and enjoy every bite.

    Getting Banded During Jewish Holidays?

I had my band one week before my birthday...not as big of a holiday but we usually went out and ate a BIG dinner. I had scrambled eggs with ranchero sauce... I would do it as early as you can to start living!
