    No energy

I can't add much since i'm only one week out except.... I'm assuming you've had your thyroid checked ???? I have Hypothyroidism and it will slow you down if not treated.
  2. Thank for reading. today is exactly one week and I went back to work today. My husband did drive me since we own our business and work together. This morning I woke up with little to no discomfort and I was able to sleep (roll around from side to side) without waiking myself up. It truly takes a full week for recovery so plan on that. It also takes me a little to get going in the morning. After I've had my first Protein shake my head is back on straight. You may have a light headed feeling or lack of Mojo in the mornings until you get some fuel in the tank. I'm a very open and honest "tell it like it is" person so if you have any question you want to ask that i've not addressed please let me know. Take care!

    Look at my tracker!! hehe

Thank you so much for sharing. I one week out and still waiting to see results. I love reading about all the success stories.
  4. i didn't get a drain. Not sure how they decide who gets one and who doesn't. that may be why you lost weight in the hospital. Your drain may help remove excess Fluid (who knows). I haven't had any nausea issues and i'm not allowed yogurt yet. Its amazing that one procedure can have so many differences depending on where you live, who your surgeon is, how much weight you need to lose, etc etc.... I don't go see my Dr. till March 14 (two week follow-up). Well, keep up the good work! sounds like you are on your way to great health.
  5. You know.... I think the more I do the better I feel. When I sit around and watch HGTV all day I feel worse than when I get up and do a few things around the house. Today my soreness has lessened from yesterday and i'm not feeling the food going down into my stomach like i did the first days. I will warn you, while you are not hungry you do still have a desire to taste something good. I made Breakfast for my husband this morning (eggs & bacon) and that bacon smelled really good. I wanted to put just a small taste in my mouth. I'm so tired of sweet drinks. I had some Miso Soup last night at that was good.
  6. Howdy Sleeve mate... I also put on 10 lbs but mine started coming about 2 days ago. I drink lots of water... just plain Water. The more you pee the more of that will flush thru the system. Everyone is different just like PMS effects us all differently. Your body may hold on to fluids longer than mine. Be patient, this is why they told us not to weight... looks like neither one of us are good at following those orders. I've never been one to retain water but my mom has to take Fluid pills. I have to potty all the time and she rarely has to go. Hang in there.... this too will pass (along with the gas )
  7. Howdy Sleevers, Well today is day Five and I wanted to let you know what i'm able to do today and how I feel. I awoke this morning at 6:30 (normal time) I had my best nights sleep so far l. Still not comfortable sleeping on my sides but getting use to sleeping on my back. This was my first night without any pain medication throughout the whole night. I woke up feeling like I had been in an all day Ab class at LA Fitness but once I walked around that subsided. I think my parts shift a little in the night and when I stand they settle again. Took one dose of pain medication (this is a liquid they send you home with). Loaded dishwasher, fixed Breakfast for my boys and fixed school and work lunches. Took my longest shower (you know girls, the one where you shave, exfoliate, and condition the hair). Put full makeup on (I'm a Texas so that can take a while) and did my big Texas hair.....(blow dry and flat iron).. Took a walk outside around my backyard and proceeded to watch daily news and whatever morning show I could keep interested in. Had WonTon broth for lunch, I'm not doing well on the clear liquid Proteins... they are too sweet or too gritty. I was a gourmet food lover so the nasty taste of powdered Soups and over sweet drinks is not my style. Now if they had a Protein Soup that tasted like Lobster Bisque and a drink that had the flavor of a nice Cabernet I'd be totally on board. I did email my Nut to see if I could start reg. Protein shakes. I have to tell you... food is starting to look good (to many shows on morning TV with Food). Around 12:30 I felt the need for a nap (which I took) about 2:30 I woke up full of energy again. I'm getting close to wanting to bust out of the house. I don't stay cooped up well. My incisions are looking good today. I can really tell the swelling is going down. I'm also wearing regular fitted clothes with zipper and button with ease. I couldn't help but step on the scale today and I've lost all the weight I gained during surgery (8-10 lbs). I'm now 8 lbs down which includes one week liquid pre-op diet. I expect that number to change a lot in the next couple weeks. Last night I felt healthy and strong enough to cook my family their regular dinner with comfort. The standing feels good and helps pass gas. I did have my first BM (sound like my mother). It was very very lose almost watery like so if you feel a BIG fart coming on you may want to hit the bathroom and make sure your body is not having its first BM... (sorry if TMI) I've also (as you can tell) been able to work from home using laptop without feeling lightheaded. Well, as usual if I missed anything or you have questions please let me know and i'll be happy to answer best I can. Everyone have a wonderful weekend! Kim

    One week out...

Hey Miss Brandy, I was sleeved on Monday Feb. 28 so this is day 6 for me and I wanted to let you know i'm also having the watery lose stools... Probably normal and will soon turn to hard once we introduce solids and more Protein. I actually have more strength today but my abdominal area is a little more tender today (especially the incision where they removed the stomach). Kinda feel like I have been punched in the side but only bothers me when i'm moving around. I'm going to try to go back to work 1/2 day on Monday. Good luck!
  9. Howdy from Texas, I had my surgery Monday Feb. 28th at a medical Center in Dallas that specializes in WLS. Most everyone that had their surgery on Monday morning left Tuesday evening. I was self pay and my self pay included a two night stay so I left Wed. around 10:30am. I probably could have left Tuesday evening but my boys aren't the best of care givers.
  10. Hey sleevers, It's day four, sleeved on Monday. Just thought I would update you on how I feel and answer any questions. First, it helps if you will ask you question by including my original quote that way it will come to my attention via email. Ok.. where do i begin. Was sleeved on Monday, came home from the surgical center yesterday around noon. I'm feeling more rested today. I'm also weening myself off any pain medication. Your Dr. will probably give you a prescription for liquid pain medication and something for gas. So far the hardest parts of my surgery have not been associated with pain. sleeping is hard because i'm a side sleeper and at this time my belly is too swollen to sleep on my sides. Also, I can also feel every little thing that goes down into my stomach. Every time I take a sip I can feel it moving into my stomach (which is kind of weird). I'm sure that will pass. I have no desire to eat and that is not good because I need to get some Protein down me (soup) or i will stay week and tired feeling. I'm really looking forward to Protein shakes. I know that will help me get my strength back. I think the main thing is not to push ourselves, rest is always needed after surgery. I can remember the days when you stayed in a hospital for a week for something like knee surgery or a C-section. So don't push it. I got up this morning, fixed my son his lunch for school, did a little walking around the house, loaded the dishwasher, made some tea, and now i'm playing on my laptop. Will force some Soup down in a few minutes. all in all doing good.... each day will be a better day and the hardest part is behind me. Stay tuned! Kim

Hey, it's my new SMF (Sleeve Mate Forever). I think we had as much fun in a hospital as possible allowed. I'm doing great this morning. When I first wake up I feel like I did an ab class at LA fitness in the middle of the night but once i get moving all is good. this was the first morning that I did the whole shower, make-up, hair dry and straighten etc etc... and it feels good to look like a human again. Well for me it's been back to taking care of my boys. I made dinner for my husband last night (steak and salad) and have been doing minor non-strenuous house work (like dishes and folding laundry) and making school lunches etc. I will probably go back to work Monday or Tuesday. I'm looking forward to getting of the clear liquid diet. I need more Protein and I can't do the unjury chicken broth. It is nasty and doesn't taste like any real broth i've every had. I'm not much on the powdery taste. I like reg. Protein shakes and look forward to my first one on monday morning. i've been drinking the V8 juice lite mixed with the Isopure fruit punch protein. I'm just a Water girl and would prefer water but i know i need some calories. I do miss my morning diet Dr. Pepper. Glad to see you on board.....
  12. Hey Sleevers Just got home from the best surgical Centers i've ever had to stay at. Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas. Was sleeved on Monday, no pain just tired from not sleeping. I plan on getting lots of rest for the next few days. Surgery was a breeze.... my Dr. was very happy with my pre-diet results. Said liver was so small he hardly noticed it. He warned me not to weight but I did it any way.... been on nothing but IV drip and Water for last couple days and I weight 8 lbs more than I did when I checked in. That too shall pass along with lots of gas and pee. My Dr. (Dr. Gregory Barnes) in Dallas managed my pain really well. I'm not hungry but I do need to get down some of the unjury Soup for Protein. Don't think i would feel like flying today.... not sure how you guys that travel to Mexico do it. It's not pain but just over all tiredness. Met several really great people at the Surgical Center (Hey Kelly, what up?) also had awesome nurses. not sure what details people want to know... just ask and i will try to address your question. Thanks for all your support! Kim
  13. Stay positive... it will help with the recovery phase. Also, what I noticed, when I was smiling the nurses where smiling and everyone was happy.
  14. I haven't had any pain that is bothersome. I know each person has a different threshold for pain. My monthly cramps are way worse than anything i've experienced with this. In fact, with my gall bladder surgery last year I had a hard time turning from side to side (like when picking something up) but i've noticed this had not been a problem so far. I did take some of my pain medication this morning at 6:30 but it is now 10:15 and i'm still rolling along. I have even picked up things off the floor (not thinking) and then realizing it didn't hurt. Most of my discomfort is from swelling and bloating in my belly. I was not given a compression garment post-op. I did ask my Dr. about it and he said it would be up to me and that each individual is different when it comes lose skin. In all honesty, the only thing keeping me from hoping in the shower and heading off to work is the weakness my body is going thru from surgery and no real food for 5 days now. I feel curtain that with rest and proper nutrition I will be in good shape one week post-op. I'm trying to get down some V8 juice. Made the mistake of brushing my teeth before pouring.

They do put a tube down the throat to assist breathing during surgery but I have never woken from a surgery with that tube still in my throat so, to answer you question NO, it was long gone before waking. Other hospitals my do it differently but i've personally never experienced that before. good luck and let me know if you have any further questions.

The place was the best... all the employees really like their job and it shows. If you get a nurse named Will you must tell him Kim said hi. (remind him my son is in the Navy) Will was a Marine. Yes.. the floor is mostly WLS with a few Hernia's. We all look like walking zombies walking the hall with our IV rolling racks. ONE VERY IMPORTANT NOTE. They do not let you change out of your surgical gown so take a robe and some panties to cover your back side when walking. I had a simple thin cotton robe that worked great and I took several pair of panties because (TMI ALERT) some times when you are trying to pass the gas you may piddle a little and wish for some clean undies. Our group was very social so we would go visit each other in our rooms etc. the nurses said that was a little unusual but 2 of us were from this forum and we found each other quickly and became walking buddies. There will also be men on this floor so another good reason to make sure the rear end is covered. The rooms are every bit as nice as the pictures and yes i walked the halls. this place is very clean. the nurses station is in the middle so you will always pass them. All the nurses work a 12 hr shifts from 7 - 7. When you arrive your family will be given a restaurant style flashing pager that the hospital will use to let your family know they are needed. My husband was allowed to sit with me in pre-op after I was changed into my surgical gown. You will have lots of people come visit with you to go over everything with you then you get that magic iv push and off you go. Let me know if you have any other questions. I still fresh with thoughts...

pain is minimal. I did a lot of walking at the hospital. The first walk is the worst but the nurse or tech will be with you. I actually went for a walk around the floor i was on every time I got up to go potty. At first you will have to ask for assistance to go anywhere because you will have massaging socks on that have to be turned off and disconnected before you can move about. By the next morning everyone that had had surgery the morning before all had to go have their leak test x-ray/GI. This is very easy. You will be given a small amount of Fluid (not bad not good but NOT chalky) they will take a few xrays then you go back and they will discuss what all you can have to drink. Only one person in my group did not pass and it was due to hernia repair that was still swollen. My tummy is still very gassy and swollen so I just feel pregnant. Be sure to take lose fitting clothes to go home in. I had a cute PJ set that i wore home with elastic waist. I've heard people talk about swallowing and wondered what that was about. Never ever experienced any issues with swallowing. My Dr. let me have small (very small) amounts of Water the day of my surgery (I can't do ice my teeth are to sensitive) and I never had any issue with swallowing the fluids. you will probably go home in late afternoon or early evening the day after your surgery. I got to stay two nights because I was self pay and that cost covered two nights. Just remember when you take your first walk.... (you won't be in pain as much as just woozy and tired) that every walk gets easier and easier. I tried to walk at least 15 min durations and I never had the dreaded gas pains in the shoulder. And like I said, every time I went to the potty I made myself go walk. The first night I was wide awake. You will do great. Make sure you take your gas-x (or something like it) when you get home. Also, take a pillow if you have a favorite. Hospital pillows are not the best.
  19. Hey Sleevers, I'm on day 6 of my liquid diet and I'm on only liquids. I'm to have Protein Meal Replacement drinks for all meals and Snacks. So, yes i've cheated but not the way you would think. I have had Jello and broth. In my broth i've added red chili flakes. I've tasted a few bites of my sons food after cooking for him, and I mean a tiny little bitty bite. I had 2 very thin slices of low fat turkey sandwich meat today also... I just felt like I needed something not sweat. I'm not a sweat eater and all the drinks are making me cranky from all the sweat flavors. I want a glass of wine really bad but since my surgery is Monday that is out of the question. I'm 209 and i'm struggling with WHY I'm having to do such a drastic diet one week pre-op. After hearing people who are heavier than me eating real food right up till surgery time has me really confused as to why i'm making myself sick of the same foods i'm going to need to eat for the next few weeks. I would give anything for a Boca burger, a Lean Cuisine, Smart One..... anything that I could ad some salt too Sorry.... just need to vent. Looking forward to Laxative Sunday... WooHoo

    I need to Vent...

We'll made it thru the weekend. All most there. Hospital called and told me to be there at 7:45 Guess we will all catch up in a few days. Good luck all those who are having surgery tomorrow.

    I need to Vent...

Thanks all.... Plannergirl. I did order some of the unjury but it hasn't arrived yet. I hope I like it. My son and I are almost full blown vegetarians (him more than me, I eat fish). I can't stand the smell of chicken so I may not be able to handle it. I had my gall bladder out in May and all the hospital had was either beef or chicken broth and I just couldn't get it down. Now if they could just make a protein drink that tastes like sushi....

    I need to Vent...

Thanks Foxbins.. But broth is not on my pre-op diet... that is what i've been cheating with. I make my own broth so I can control the sodium amounts. thats whats frustrating.... I feel like i'm cheating but most people are giving broth as an option.
  23. Wow.... lots of different answers. I'm on day 6 of my liquid diet and I'm on only liquid. I'm to have Protein Meal Replacement drinks for all meals and Snacks. I want a glass of wine really bad but since my surgery is Monday I guess i'd better be good. BUT, i'm only 209 and i'm struggling with WH Y am I having to do such a drastic diet one week pre-op. 3/7 surgery

Hey Laura, I'm in the same boat you are when it comes to social drinking. My surgery is Monday in Dallas also and I want a glass of wine so bad right now I can hardly stand it. I'm also self pay. My husband and I own an advertising agency in Fort Worth so i'm alway having to deal with social events and the eating and drinking aspect of that. I'm nervous also about how to handle that after surgery. I will be 48 in March. I was thin till I turned 35 and after baby #2 I went from 125 (normal weight) to 215 (highest weight last week) . I started my liquid diet on Monday and i'm now 209 (this mornings weight) but i'm about to kill my family of eaters. I'm going to take my lap top and try (if i'm up to it) to update after my surgery. My surgeon usually sends you home on day two but the fee i'm paying Forest Park Medical Center includes two nights so i'm probably going to ask my surgeon to allow me to stay. It has been my experience with many surgeries under my belt that day two is the worst and by day 3 things start improving at rapid speed. Glad you found this forum... lots of great info to read and lots of support. Take care and stay in tough!
