Band!! No, Sleeve! No, never mind, maybe nothing..
renniemommietoo posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BMI 40 (finally, instead of 39.4...) 40 years old, otherwise healthy. Going thru pre-diet. About to lose insurance that pays for WLS. Thought I wanted a Band, then read of the never ending issues. Some of you it works out, the rest of you get blamed that you aren't doing something right. Looked at Sleeve. 1/2 your stomach-a essential organ, gone. And who knows if I might need that over the next 45 years! Serious. But, sounds pretty good for me. A way to not be hungry all the time. What a relief that would be. BUT, when they cut out the stomach, they also cut out the hunger hormone, Gherlin, but that also regulates temperature, hence why many Sleeve people are COLD (thin, but cold) all the time. So back to band, which I know won't work forever, but worry about cost of complications when I won't have WLS insurance coverage. Ports flipping,etc.. Can I do this myself? Obviously not, as here I am. Anyone actually have the Band work? Got any ideas for me? -
Help in the final dicision--

I suspect much of what is going on with your weight (and mine too) is physiological and physical. To quote someone else, I had the motivation to finish college, keep jobs, etc. You can't quit food cold turkey like other things, since we all need food to survive. I am considering Band or Sleeve. I really like the Sleeve, but the major surgery part really freaks me out. I think it will be a Tool to help you. -
I'm in Austin. I am looking at March. I am considering Band or Sleeve (or nothing, the more I read).

I've had nothing, considering Band or Sleeve (don't want to be cold all the time). IMHO, it seems there is alot of *blame the patient* that goes on with Lap-Band failures, the 'i need to get back on the programs', when it is the Band to blame anyway. Not a perfect system. Some of those rules are the same ones we couldn't follow in the first place before we gained weight, if we could have done them then, we'd not needed the surgery in the first place. But, maybe pretend you don't have a band (since it is acting absent anyway), watch calories/carbs, maybe you've got some sneaky ones that have gotten in there. good Luck.

Jackass...that is not how you give a compliment to a lady! It sounds like something my Dad would say, basically a bonehead observation. Turn it around..you DO look good (especialllllly for someone your size), which is about to change anyway! -
Band doesn't work for me like it does others

I'd consider going to Mexico, this Dr. A sounds great and I've always had great luck with other medial issues in Mexico. I think a lot of the "patient blaming" issues with the band are the same kinds of physical/physiological issues that caused us to be overweight in the first place. "Know when your full, don't overeat" blah..blah. RIght now I am considering Band (but about to lose insurance coverage, which means any issues is OOP) and Sleeve. My fear of the sleeve is 1/2 of a organ gone forever and while the Ghrelin part is gone, that hormone also regulates temperature-which explains why so many Sleeve people are cold. IDK what to do. -
YOU ARE GOING TO BE HUNGRY HUNGRY HUNGRY

Fluffy: You posted on the 8th, the next day you check on what people said and re-post "since this has went on this long you all have no life". A day posting and we have no life?! Who has no life? Fluffy I am betting, since she needed to check back in on the posting and then post something even Snarkier and flat out rude! I haven't had surgery yet and I was reading this to see if it had any good information to help me with my choice and diet forever and ever and being hungry all the time doesn't speak well for this surgery, since that is me now. -
Instructions for a fill adjustment

I can see why someone in Romania would want to do it themselves. I can also see why someone with no insurance would want to as well. I would not advocate it. I am not even sure I think his post should stay up, but it is good info to have to check if your healthcare person is doing it right. Many people have medical experience and would feel comfortable trying this themselves. My mom got a horrid UTI in the hospital from a nurse..so it isn't always a guarantee. I say: be careful!! -
Im confused on which surgery to have
renniemommietoo replied to mslinda80's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have the same debate..Band-finiky, weird food restrictions, lots of Dr. visits (with no insurance), seen lots of issues..Sleeve-sounds great, after presumably surgery goes well, but with 1/2 your stomach gone and Ghrelin, the hunger hormone gone, that also regulated temp, many sleeve people are cold. Acid and B12 issues too. Cold!! I won't even consider something that reroutes my intestines. I have no idea what to do. Wait till something else comes out?
