  1. I came home Saturday night.. OMG they didn't even discharge me till LATE!! I got in my car at 8:44PM!!!!! That's kinda insane..but whatever I home by 9. I only had to be on the clear diet for 1-2 days..that's it.. after that you can resume the pre-op diet.. I haven't been all that hungry really. I was the first 2 days..but not really anymore. These staples where the port area is is really sore.. it's kinda crazy seeing staples in your stomach! Today I did eat a small piece of chicken..I know I'm not supposed to but..ya know.. I chewed it over and over and over again.. I love meat! but it went down okay. A girl I met at the info session.. we've been keeping in touch.. she had her post op appt today and they told her she can start eating stuff like yogurt, cottage cheese :puke: GROSS  , tuna, etc.. so I'm not sure if that's considered the "mushies' stage or soft foods.. I asked her "like soft foods" and she said ya... so I guess I'll find out for sure on Monday when I go for my post op.

  2. That cake looks good right about now..LOL and I'm not a sweets person. I'm gonna do some research and see what kind of low carb I'm going to do. Generally, things that are "low fat, Lite, fat free, etc" have more carbs than the regular things and sometimes more sugars if I remember correctly...it's been a while since I knew all sorts of information about low carb. I'll figure out what I'm gonna do.. What I wouldn't give for a piece of cheese right now!

  3. Thanks for all the info! I used to make quiches all the time when I did low carb before. I see alot of people mentioning fat... which is why I wondered if people who are banded follow the old school low carb way or if it's some new version..cuz from what I know of low carb/high protein.. fat content really wasn't an issue but I see people mentioning it.. is it because of what the docs told them, their own choice, or this is the low carb way they are talking about?

  4. Thanks so much for posting...I loved all the detail. It has def helped me ease the anxiety. Keep me posted on the pain. That's my biggest concern since I really shouldn't take narcotic pain killers. I am very nervous about that part.:( :(

So glad all went well for you...

    keep in touch!

    Ally

You're welcome! You know what hon.. you should see if you can find out who the anestisiologist...hoever you spell that.. is the day you are going to have surgery and then make an appt or call them to talk to them about your history..or talk to you surgeon and he and the anestitiologist... can make a plan together...that's what I would do! If you are that concerned, you are not doing yourself any favors by not speaking up! So you really need to speak up in this instance hon! Know what I mean?? Call them tomorrow!:)

  5. Hi Smokey-Glad see you posting today. Hopefully that means you are feeling ok. We went to Volare on Grand/St Clair and had a great italian meal...I won't get into the deets. Today I am back on track...starving right now but getting by.

Take care of yourself and keep posting so we know how you are doing.

    Peace~

    Ally

Yep..I've heard of Volare.. good stuff menard! That sounds soooo good. I'm not hungry really.. I'm "head" hungry...prolly because I can't eat...I want everything I can't have...

I'm doing pretty good.. it's good to be home in my own bed..finally getting some sleep... my lungs still hurt.. but really the rest is A-OK! and this grape flavored children's tylenol is really tasty..

  6. Otay..I wrote this last night on another thread but I figured I'll make a new one for it.. I'm just copying and pasting from last night... here we gooooooooooo

Otay I can't sleep.. so I'll tell you guys about my day..got here around 10:50...I was supposed to be here at 10:30..but I'm always kinda late..lol I can literally get here in like 12 minutes I guess I push that "time to leave" envelope sometimes.. Besides, when is a hospital ever on time.. NEVER! Got here, signed in waited, preregistered, etc. There was a girl who came in after me that was at my info session and in the same class day as me so we chatted a bit. It was nice to see a familiar face! I got called back about 11:20 or so...met my nurse...she was VERY VERY nice... she explained a bunch of stuff..asked a bunch of questions, etc. I had to get completely undressed and had a gown and slipper things to put on..when she came back in..then a medical student came in to ask me a bunch of questions too.. he was really cool...then the nurse came back in and they both asked a TOOOOOOOOOOON of questions...then I got in the bed and she gave me a heparin shot for the blood thinning...and then she did my IV..which wasn't bad at all...and I hate needles...I asked about getting a beer in the IV but no go..LOL then they turned on the tv for me and left the room... I got to watch All My Kids(Children) so that was cool!!! Then dude Tyrone.. that name is hilarious! came in to take me to the operating room...oh yah.. during the time I was waiting.. some took my bp, I talked to the anesthesiologist, talked to my Dr..surgeon.. etc...he had already done 3 surgeries so he had 5 more to go...he was really nice and in good spirits... oh yah, whenever they asked me what I was having done.. cuz they ask you a MILLION times... I told each one full body liposuction  they all got a kick outta that.... I got wheeled into the surgery room.. then I got a little nervous.. everyone introduced themselves... and they got me all ready to scoot over on the surgery bed/table.. then the undid the back on my gown and they all checked out my tattoo...lol they put some warm blankets on me.. told me that I'd be taken good care of... I told them I just wanna wake up cuz I have 2 kids at home and they assured me that of course I was gonna wake up!:D they then put on a mask over my face to help me to relax..or is that what puts you to sleep? then...I woke up in recovery... not sure how long I was in recovery...don't really remember what even went on there.. they brought me up to my room.. got me in my bed and got me all situated.. it was prolly around 4:45 at that time.. they gave me some morphine..met my nurse.. she told me to call her when I had to go potty.. and then I've just been hanging out the rest of the day... seriously it's been a really good experience..everyone is nice here! I have a nice big room with an awesome view on the 10th floor.. I can't wait to drink some damn Water though. I call the nurse when i need more morphine...cuz she's my pusher... and it's actually really nice just to be relaxing...honestly the only bad thing is the gas pain..that's the worst part..everything else is no big deal at all... So I guess that's my story.. if I missed anything or left anything out.. just ask...:D Who's next??!! lol

  7. I am so with you guys...my husband is a total pain in the ass. I don't think he fully gets it. I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet and last night he brought me a cupcake to cellebrate my promotion at work. I know its not that big of a deal but come on...tonight he wants to take me out to dinner for my last supper...naturally I'm going...wrong I know but what the heck.

He doesn't know how to be supportive in a gentle way which is how I need it. he says if he has to praise then he can criticize. OY! He is a tough one.

I'm going to try and not let him bother me but we'll see how that goes. I am also considering a therapist...someone who is knowlegeable of addictions. I am 16mo clean from perscription meds but I have easily increased my eating and shopping. It's my crutch and makes me feel better...maybe I should try using the gym as a way to sooth my soul...what a healthy concept.

We need to help support each other...I'm here for you guys.

Good luck to all. We can do this one day at a time!!!

    Peace~

    Ally

Good for you on your 16 months! You should be really proud of yourself! I remember when I used to buy scrapbook supplies ALL THE TIME to soothe being in an psychologically abusive relationship..I was a QVC whore! LOL

So where did you guys go to dinner? What did you have? Can you describe it for me?

  8. some people can eat bread (or pizza) just fine... i'm just not one of them. i can eat the crust if its crunchy and i can eat the cheese and toppings. people just look at me funny when i take 2 pieces of pizza, eat the crust of one piece and the cheese off both of them and throw the rest away... so its just easier to just skip it.

i've been open and honest with everyone... friends and family... everyone has been supportive to my face but i don't know what they say when i'm not around. they know i can't eat a lot so they let me graze off their plate during happy hours and such. i'm almost 3 years post-op so i can drink a cocktail or 2 if i want but i have to decide whether i want to eat OR drink because with the band its too hard to do both!

You are so funny! WOW you are 3 years out! Good for you girl! You've done awesome! Is there anything about the band now that you don't like?

Right now I'm just dying for a sip of water!... or a margarita

  9. YAY! Congrats!! I think that pain might be gas pain? Did they tell you? Poor thing. I am glad to hear you are all done and well. Can't wait to watch as you go through your journey, Smokey! It's just the beginning, but wow, of a whole new chapter...heck, a whole new book!!

Awww..thanks hon! I'm really excited too! This is a whole new book for me!! and it's all my own and no one else!! That's the awesome part! I'm so excited for all of us!!! We'll all have a whole new life to enjoy very soon! ROCK ON!!!

  10. WELP..the deed has been done  Surgery went well..but my back.. upper back like between my shoulders is killing me! NOT ROCK ON! I'm moving around really well the nurse said. I'll write more on Sunday..they just gave me some morphine.. No one will bring me a vodka and cranberry though.. I'm gonna get some rest... I'm in a room overlooking Lake Michigan and a view of the city.. pretty cool!

Ally where do you live?? I live in Wicker Park.

Talk to ya'll later... gonna get some rest!

    ROCK ON!!!

  11. In less than 6 hours I will be arriving at the hospital for my band. As I am sitting here I feel euphoric and nauseous.... I will soon put the patch behind my ear the doctor gave me so the nausea should pass. I feel as if I could even cry ... its part relief that its finally here and I am starting down the road to my rebirth and part fear of what is to come. I have had many surgeries over the past 20 yrs. due to female problems, back and neck issues but this is the first surgery I actually chose to have and didn't have to have..... I can honestly say that if it weren't for the wonderful ppl that i have met on the site I would seriously need a Valium right now to calm my nerves. THANK YOU EVERYONE !!!!!!

Congrats hon! My surgery is today too! I wish you the best of luck!!! You're gonna do great!! GOOD LUCK!! HUGS!!:D

  12. If you find anything else let me know.. I analyze EVERYTHING.. sometimes I drive myself crazy..lol But I still would think that you can't really even compare the same people if they aren't doing the same type of exercises, working out the same amount of time, eating the same foods, etc.. do you know what I mean? What if some people had more stress than others or some people weren't getting enough sleep, or some drank wine where others drank vodka.. do you know what I mean? I just don't see how it makes sense how you can compare one against the other unless all of the other variables were the same.. period... but that's the way I think.. like I said..I analyze EVERYTHING! lol

  13. They called earlier to tell me to be at the hospital at 10:30!!:Banane09: At least I can drop of my youngest at school and then go to the grocery store to pick up a few things for the kids while I'm gone..come home shower and be on my way! So nice to have a teenager..usually it isn't.. he's picking up my youngest from school and babysitting for me so I know they'll be A-OK! I'm so excited!! I hate needles though..

  14. Thanks for the explanation of all that.. I never knew about there being something called hypoapnea.. wow though that is just insane! WOW! Aww...that sucks not getting good sleep! And then having to get up and go to work and/or take care of kids, etc.. that's so hard! You poor thing! You definitely need this band! I'll be so happy for you the day you get some good sleep..that alone will make you feel like a different person!!

  15. Elle.. LOVE the drummer dude! I'm a music FREAK!! Awwww...thanks guys..

Yah, I'm SO EXCITED!!!! But I do have in the back of my head him going in

there and then not doing the surgery! I haven't stuck "completely" to the liquid diet but i'm just having some protein..real meat..almost everyday since Sunday.. which I think is still fine according to "how to shrink your liver" So we'll see. I'm sure it will be fine..and I'm just being paranoid.. hell I haven't had a damn drink in over 2 weeks so that's an accomplishment in itself.. But thanks everyone I'm really really excited.

I'm still waiting for them to call me back for my pre-registration.. hopefuly I go in at like 10am and not 4am! That's too damn early! What should I bring to the hospital?
