This gives me so much hope. I had so many people tell me that its rare that someone loses over 100lbs on the band. My gut told me that the band was the route I wanted to go. I just couldn't get comfortable with the bypass. I completely understand how the band works and that I must put forth effort to maximize its benefits. I'm just glad to see so many that have successfully lost 100+! Congrats to you all. I hope to see my name there some day!

Yes, as a matter of fact the Nurse called me right after I posted this. Told me to come in, which I did. Dr. said definitely post-op inflammation. He decreased the fill on the band. Told me when I come back next tuesday for my scheduled visit, he will re-fill it.
All is well now. No trouble with liquids or Jello.
You're band was filled? I just got banded Monday too, but I thought he said it was empty and would stay that way until 6 weeks out.

Congrats! My surgery is scheduled for Monday at 7:00. I'm starting to get a little bit nervous. So glad to hear everything went well for you.

I've just told people I'm having a hiatal hernia repair and my dr wants me to lose some weight before surgery to make it safer an a quicker recovery. And it's true, o am having a hernia repair...I just didn't tell anyone that a lapband was going in @ the same time.
We have a similar story. I'm having my left overy/cyst removed at the same time as i'm getting the band (getting banded on 1/31) so I can at least tell people that I'm having surgery. My immediate family, closest friends and a few close co-workers know the truth, but I just don't feel comfortable telling more. Of course, I have an Aunt with a big mouth so I'm sure it will get out before long. I don't plan to lie if someone asks, I just don't want to volunteer the information.

I'm right there with ya! I started this process over a year ago and then got cold feet. It happened around the time my work was laying off people so I used that as my excuse....but really I was just scared! Luckily, I wasn't laid off. The breaking point for me came when I thought I was having a heart attack. I spent one night in the hospital and was turned over to a cardiologist. He put me through every test possible. Good news was....my heart looked good. No blockages.....for now. That would surely change if I continued the path that I was on. My cardiologist lost over 100lbs the "old fashion" way...but he was still an inspiration to me and encouraged me to move forward with the surgery. So now here I am in the home stretch....9 days into my pre-op diet and 5 days till my surgery! My short-term goal is to lose 13lbs before the surgery and I'm down 8 so far! Anyway...to answer your question....YES, I had cold feet and nearly backed out completely. I finally just reconciled to the fact that this is the best thing for my health.
Good luck with your decision!

Thank you all for these posts. I'm in the pre-op phase - surgery is next Monday (1/31) and new to this forum. I jumped on here to see if I could find some creative ways to fix my Protein drinks because I'm just getting sick of them. I'm not having problems w/hunger, but I'm struggling getting everything in because I'm having to force them down.
Your posts have really comforted me. I seek what many of you have already obtained - a healthy lifestyle that is sustainable! The one post about a "prison sentence" really spoke to me because that is my biggest fear - that I'm going to wake up from surgery and feel like I've just been handed a life sentence! Don't get me wrong, I'm VERY ready to change my life....I'm just not ready to take all of the joy out of it.
Thanks again!

I am about to begin my new journey in a few short weeks. My surgery date is scheduled for Jan 31st. I start my pre-op diet on Jan 12th. I want to know what products/food I should stock up on to help me succeed in these first few weeks. Thanks!

Happy New Year!!
Was just wondering if anyone is from NC? I have read several posts and have seen lost of places represented but nothing from NC. I'm just trying to find a doctor in my area that does the lap band procedure. I have an appointment scheduled for the information seminar with one suregery center in Greenville, but am curious if there are others?
God bless!
Hi There, I'm from NC but from the Charlotte area. Where exactly are you located?

Hi all. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 31st. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm trying to plan out my pre-op diet so I have it all in place before I have to start on the 12th. I look forward to going through this with you all.
drinking with meals

Glad to see these posts. Not drinking with my meal will be my biggest hurdle (2 weeks post op). I'm okay if I can just take a small sip or two during the meal, but I will actually stop eating because of not drinking. My family has become the drink police everytime I sneak a drink with my meal. I have no fill at this moment so its probably not going to effect me, but I'm still not doing it just because I know its a habit of mine.
